History

Established in 1898.

Founded by Charles Porcella an Italian immigrant from Genoa, Italy who ran it as a dry goods store. George, his son took over in 1947 and sold everything from clothing to radios and musical instruments. Being an accomplished musician who had a 17 piece band in the 1930s he taught music at the store. He continued playing music with smaller combos when he wasn’t running the store until his passing in 1986. David, his son now runs the store solely as musical instrument sales and repair. He occasionally plays gigs with friends using his famous Hammond B-​3

Born 1950 in Gilroy, Ca. Parents are George and Evelyn Porcella. Attended Gilroy Schools. Studied music at Gavilan College Served on the U.S.S. Hancock CVA-​19 during the Vietnam War (71 – 73). Worked as an auto mechanic for 25 years. Has played organ/​piano with numerous bands since 1974. Has worked with Tyran Porter, Dale Ockerman, (former Doobie Bros.), Lee Oskar from the group, War.
