I brought a friend of mine in to discuss a potential Ch. 7 or 13 bankruptcy that I had suggested as a possible course of action for her, thinking a neighborhood lawyer might be a potentially good way to go.
He talked to her for 15 minutes then demanded $ 75. Invoiced her immediately to make it official (that’s why he was taking down her contact info right away)
During this little consultation he bragged about a lien on a client’s property whom couldn’t afford to pay him.
When I protested and talked of informing the Oregon Bar he threatened me and my helpless, kind, well meaning friend with a TORT. So *I* paid, out of fear for my friend. What began with wanting to point an embattled colleague in the right direction turned into steering her into a trap.
I will never forget this petty man’s offense.
This type of unprofessional, sleazy conduct does not deserve to be rewarded. This is the type of predatory person that gives the legal profession a bad name.
Avoid at all costs.
