Dr Infernuso is amazing. He’s compassionate about what he does and has an excellent beside manner, which is hard to find when it comes to surgeons. Our 1 year old lab Juneau started limping on a Wednesday evening, our regular veterinarian prescribed some anti-​inflammatories for her which helped, but she was still limping. We brought her back in for a recheck with our vet, who took some xrays and consulted with Dr. Infernuso and diagnosed her with OCD in both of her back legs. Because of her condition and the potential for it to become much worse and cause our little girl more pain, Dr. Infernuso offered to do the surgery to correct the problem at our vets office the next day! We are happy to say that our pup is well on the road to recovery and doing very well thanks to the flexibility and swiftness of action by Dr. Infernuso.

Dr. Infernuso is an amazing surgeon. He has worked on all of my pets. I have 2 Central Asian Shepherd dogs and the cutest cat in the world! He did surgery on my dog Marcus about 5 years ago for bloat and torsion. Then my dog Jasmine tore her ACL which he also reparied flawlessly. Unfortunately she tore the ACL in her other leg 7 weeks later, which is common. He repaired that as well. Then comes the cat with his urinary blockage that was so bad his urethra was damaged and Dr. infernuso had to perform a perineal urethrostomy. All surgeries he performed were perfect, recovery time was quick and my fur babies were all happy and healthy after! I recommend Dr. Infernuso over and over again. His compassion for animals is incredible and his passion for his profession is over the top.

I spent the night in a hotel, so my dog could be on time for her surgery with Dr. Infernuso promptly at 8:00 am.
My pug has a large fluid-​filled mass on her abdomen that continues to grow.
Based on what I saw online and from the reviews I thought he would do a brilliant job.
I had a surgery scheduled and called his office twice the week before to confirm my appointment, then when I got to the hospital the lady said to me:
«What are you doing here Dr. Infernuso does not have any surgeries scheduled today.»
Whoever does the scheduling at Dr. Infernuso’s office Never Called the Hospital or scheduled the surgery at the hospital in Minneola to say we were coming**
I took a car from Manhattan to a hospital in Minneola and spent the night at La Quinta so we could be there promptly at 8:00am (which I was).
Then when I called his office the girl told me to ‘drop the dog’ off he’ll be there anytime from 9−11am (3 hour window) ?? that was never the plan.
With no consultation? With a doctor I’ve never met.? None of it makes any sense to me nor did the way I was treated. The lady at the front desk at that particular hospital was awful, condescending, rude and was completely clueless as to the schedule– when you add it altogether the whole thing made me very uncomfortable and scared.
I’m sure Dr. I is brilliant but I am so upset and heartbroken every time I look at my dog– no doctor in the city is really in favor of even doing it at this point, citing her age and breed as being too high risk.
Again, I know he is a great surgeon I have followed his surgeries online and all of them are incredible. Unfortunately I believe I am– go figure the only one here with a bad ‘non-​experience.‘
And as for my dog. well, it’s just sad.

Dr Infernuso is an amazing surgeon. He and his staff are so friendly and down to earth. They go over every thing from the surgery itself to the after care for your pet. My dog had a hydrolic occluder placed to help prevent urine leakage. After that procedure was done, Dr Infernuso realized that my dog also needed a vulvaplasty. He never hesitated to do that procedure also. If that procedure wasn’t done, my pet most likely would have had urinary tract infections. Dr Infernuso and his team went way beyond what I have known specialist to do. I can’t thank him and his staff enough for everything they do.

Dr. Infernuso did a soft palate resection on my dog. Before, during and after the surgery he was in contact with me. His bedside manner is second to none. My dogs recovery was exactly as Dr. Infernuso stated. He followed up the next day and told me to call him with any questions or concerns. He is by far the nicest, most compassionate surgeon. As far as my dog is concerned, he is completely healed and no longer snores or chokes on pieces of food like he had done prior to surgery. Couldn’t be happier!

The past 24 months have been very tough for my dog and my family. We had been duped by a previous Vet for a surgery with a very poor success rate. The outcome of this surgery was a disaster. When we started looking for another Vet we came across Dr Infernuso’s Unilocal page. I was blown away by his feed back from previous clients. You could feel how grateful they were in their responses about their experience. We knew we had to reach out to him. We emailed him at 10:30pm on a Friday night detailing what we had been through. You know what he did? He called us that night on a Friday after working all week. He saw my dog that following Monday and examined him and really helped us understand what he had been through as well as a realistic recovery process.
Dr Infernuso continued to exam our Pet to figure out our game plan to give our pet the best quality of life. There were so many times that he would refuse to take money from us. This is a person who TRULY cares about your pet and understands how important they are to your family. I cannot stress this enough. He is not looking to club you over the head with massive bills like so many other Vets. The reality is he is worthy of paying a premium for his service but he chooses to help people which is a rarity.
Our pet recently had an FHO procedure and he is doing fantastic. Dr Infernuso is a great Vet and we have a 150% confidence in him and will always use him in the future. On top of being a great vet he is a great person with an incredible bed side manner.
I would have to agree with Diana B that Dr Infernuso was meant to be a Vet. This is his calling.

It is difficult to find your calling in life. I can tell you Dr. Infernuso has found his.
My Italian Greyhound, Shadow, broke her left leg which required surgery. I initially took her elsewhere and was literally being charged a leg. Eventually, I had to discharge her because it was too expensive. Dr. Infernuso was referred to me by one of his wonderful colleagues. When I spoke with him over the phone I immediately felt at ease. He confirmed this injury is very typical for IGs and explained the science behind the break. He also laid out the recovery plan for her.
Upon visiting the office, I knew I was at the right place. The office support team always reveals many things about its happiness and functionality. It was approximately 6:30pm, I found a happily bustling office; not one where people were clock watching. Everyone I interacted with was beyond professional, extremely helpful and very eager to keep me at ease. I observed their enthusiasm for other clients and patients. They are there because they enjoy what they do.
I found the waiting area to be spacious, very clean and comfortable. I enjoyed looking at the hand painted pictures of the dogs in the field. The private rooms were also maintained in the same fashion. They were tastefully decorated with calming color schemes.
When Dr. Infernuso came in, I knew he was the surgeon Shadow needed. He explained the procedure and showed me where the plates would go. He also provided realistic insights into the recovery time line. He laid out the restrictions Shadow had to adhere to while her leg healed. Although, he had just returned from doing an emergency tracheotomy on another patient, he stated the surgery would be done that evening. He assured me she would be fine and enlisted one of his nurses to stay the night with her. He called me at 10:00pm and very excitedly revealed the surgery was a success! He advised me to keep my phone on just in case they needed to reach me during the evening. The next day he called me to let me know Shadow did well during the night and was ready to go home. He provided follow-​up instructions and assured me she was on the path to recovery.
It has been six months since Shadow had her surgery. She has been able to return to being a normal high speed IG! Anyone who knows Shadow can’t believe she suffered a double fracture. She runs, jumps and plays as if nothing out of the ordinary occurred. I will always be grateful to Dr. Infernuso for his skill and compassion. I am so glad the universe connected me to his colleague, without him, none of this would have been possible.

Dr. Infernuso saved my dog and I can’t thank him enough.
I have a 6 month old baby bulldog that kept regurgitating every time he ate or drank and caused him to get phenomena twice. After being treated for phenomena for the second time and he was still throwing up, I knew I needed help.
I contacted Dr. Infernuso and speaking over the phone, he already had an idea on what could be the issue. I brought my dog in to see Dr. Infernuso and he confirmed that Calvin had a hernia blocking his esophagus and that’s what was causing him to get sick.
Dr. I did surgery on Calvin right there that night and made time for me and all the questions and concerns I had. Dr Infernuso and the people at Garden City watched and took care of Calvin around the clock for 4 days while he recovered.
Calvin is home now and doing great. Dr. Infernuso calls and texts regularly to check in on him and answers anytime I text him with a question.
I’m glad I found Dr. Infernuso and thank you so much!

Dr. Infernuso gave my dog a new life.
My dog is an olde English bulldog who was only 2 years old when he started to limp. I took him to a local vet, who diagnosed him with a torn ACL and recommended surgery to implant an artificial ligament. The night before his surgery, I decided to cancel it because I felt the need to get a second opinion. My online search brought me to Dr. Terry Eylers at North Shore Animal Hospital, who recommended Dr. Tomas Infernuso, a board certified orthopedic surgeon.
Dr. Infernuso’s exam and X-​rays showed a torn ACL on one side and partial tear on the other, as well as arthritis in both hips. He recommended TPLO and FHO for the right knee and hip, rest for several months before he performs the same surgery on the other side. He advised against implanting an artificial ligament, which would likely require additional surgeries. Dr. Infernuso’s expertise and dedication to his work was apparent from my first meeting with him. I decided to put my dog’s life in his hands.
My dog had his first surgery in Nov 2014 and his second and final surgery in May 2015. He is now running and walking without limping!
I am forever grateful to Dr. Infernuso and Dr. Eylers, who referred me to him and became a great vet for my dog until her departure from NSAH a few months ago. Dr. Infernuso improved the quality of my dog’s life, which is filled with happiness again.

My 5 y/​o Female Spayed Pomeranian/​Chihuahua mix has a condition called luxating patellas where the kneecap does not stay in place and shifts (usually to the medial aspect, or inside of the leg) rubbing up against the cartilage covering the bones of the femur and tibia /​fibula, causing inflammation in the joints if left unchecked. I waited and waited until I noticed Lady La’Lique limping and reluctant to bear weight on the leg. This is when I knew it was time for action and the first person on my list was Dr. Infernuso.
He was prompt, very serious about all aspects of the surgery from sterility to pain management. Dr. Infernuso was spot on when it came to the prognosis and recovery time. I followed his instructions to the tee and I am glad to say that Lady La’Lique is bearing weight and running around like nothing happened to her. Unfortunately, I have to get the other leg fixed but the one person that I’m going to turn to is Dr. Infernuso!
Dr. Infernuso’s prices are very fair and even cheap when it comes to the prices quoted to me by other veterinarians in the area. I agree with other Unilocalers when they say that he cares about his patients. He doesn’t just look at them as, «…oh, let me just cut, get my money and leave.» He asked me several times about La’ Lique’s status and has a genuine concern regarding the health of his cases. Experienced, skilled, caring, reasonable, and above all, HONEST are the words I would use to describe Dr. Infernuso. In my humble opinion, he is one of the best surgeons on Long Island, I would even dare to say in the state of NY.

Dr Infernuso is amazing! He has a compassionate bedside manner by being direct with what must be done, but also showing how much he cares about your pet and making you feel comfortable with the diagnosis. We had to have our dog’s, Grace, front leg removed due to cancer. We brought her in and he was able to fit her surgery in that day. When we picked her up we could tell she had been taken care of very well by Dr. Infernuso and the staff. Post surgery I was a nervous pet parent and Dr. Infernuso was very available to help and direct me with any concerns I was having with her recovery. Grace has adjusted very well and is the same dog as she has always been. The surgical work by Dr. Infernuso was concise and she looks like she was just born without a leg and shoulder. She also hasn’t had much phantom pain at all. Being new to NYC he also referred us to a fantastic vet closer to where we live. We highly recommend Dr. Infernuso. You won’t find a better vet surgeon nor a surgeon with this caliber of care and surgical expertise for this price.

I was concerned that my 120 lb., deep-​chested, 2-​year-​old Akita, Menace, might be prone to Gastric dilatation and volvulus (also known as GDV or «bloat») which can often be a sudden life-​threatening emergency that big dog owners are often confronted with. When I learned that Dr. Infernuso performs a minimally invasive surgical procedure known as Laparoscopic Gastropexy that could protect my dog from developing GDV, I brought Menace to see him. Dr. Infernuso is nothing short of amazing! He is highly skilled at the most complex of surgeries, and just wonderful with pets and their owners. Dr. infernuso explains the procedure in a way that easy to understand. I had the utmost confidence in Dr. Infernuso’s skill and experience Menace came through the outpatient laparoscopic procedure just fine. And I now have the peace of mind that we have given my dog the best protection available against the often-​fatal GDV!

Dr. Infernuso was there for the sweetest pup I walk. He suddenly couldn’t walk and it was late in the day. Dr. Infernuso welcomed him in, was incredibly attentive and even performed emergency surgery that evening. He calmed my friend and reassured her her pup would be ok and walked her through the process. It’s wonderful to know there are still some Dr’s out there who put the pups first, above all else and take the time to care for their very frightened parents. I would recommend Dr. Infernuso to all of my pet loving friends. Thank you for saving my pup friend. I only wish I could give more stars than 5!!!

Dr Infernuso is the most gentle, caring surgeon I have ever met! He stayed an extra two hours last night to perform emergency surgery on my dog. He was supposed to leave at 8pm and ended up staying until after 10. Dr Infernuso made sure I understood everything going on and was extremely communicative even throughout the surgery. He genuinely cares about my baby and made me feel safe and secure that my boy was getting the best care possible. I am honored to know him and my baby is alive and well due to his expert care. Thank you Dr. Infernuso!!!

Dr. Infernuso performed TPLO surgery for my 120lb dog last year and did a fantastic job. My 8yo dog is 100% now. Dr. Infernuso was wonderful to work with and always available for foloow up questions and concerns we had. I wouldn;t use any other Dr now. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Infernuso is nothing short of incredible. Today he performed pro bono surgery on a cat found outside my animal clinic (The Animal Clinic of Hollis Court). He gave this cat an opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life out of the goodness of his own heart. On top of that, he is an incredible surgeon who really knows the profession inside and out. I would recommend Dr. Infernuso to anyone looking for a specialty surgeon. He is the best of the best!

Dr Infernuso is truly a one of kind surgeon! Kind, understanding and very professional. My dog needed patella surgery which I was extremely scared about! Anita is a small maltepoo who means the world to me. I worried about the surgery itself and especially the recovery. Dr Infernuso made sure I was comfortable with the procedure and understood everything. My sweet Anita recovered wonderfully. Words cannot describe how grateful I am!!!

Dr. Tomas has performed two surgeries on my rescue dog Rocky. He is kind, skilled and caring. I met him through a shelter where he volunteers some of his time. My dog loves him, which is unusual for a dog and his vet. We discussed options, I always felt respected and that my opinion was valued. Rocky had a femoral head osteectomy (hip surgery for dysplasia) which was a big deal. When we noticed the limp we met Dr. Tomas and he watched him walk. He knew exactly what was going on.
The second was a more complicated diagnosis, my dog had been to three vets, including one vet neurologist, and no one knew why his face was drooping. Dr. Tomas sent me for one test and we had our answer. Almost. There was a surprise during the operation which was something extremely unusual which caused all the issues. Now my baby is fine, playing and loving just as before.
Dr. Tomas is simply the best!
