Hup & Sons Excavating Contractors

We contracted Craig and Co. to do some minor repairs and sealing of our asphalt driveway. My first meeting with Craig was very positive, but my good impression ended there. Craig talked a good game and promised top-​notch work. For this reason we were willing to accept his higher-​than-​average price as well as longer-​than-​average lead time.
I often had a difficult time reaching Craig, he returned my calls late, rescheduled several times and once did so at the very last minute without any good reason.
I trust that the materials used were excellent but the quality of the work could have been better. Our driveway was hardly edged, so the sealant did not reach the edges of the pavement. The surface was also not sufficiently cleaned and within just a few weeks the sealant was separating from the driveway surface is several locations where the asphalt surface had been dirty. The hot tar also detached from the driveway in several locations within the first few months of use. I’ve since corrected these locations on my own with driveway patch material. In case anyone is wondering, we waited an entire 3 days after the application to use the driveway. The material was most definitely dry.
Previous sealant contractors that we have used have always edged the driveway and thoroughly cleaned it, and we have NEVER had problems with sealant separating from the asphalt surface. It seems that Hup & Sons tried to cut corners and save time … unfortunately we paid for their laziness.
I’ve learned from my mistake and hope others might benefit from my experience as well. I won’t be using Hup & Sons again…
