We were a little disappointed. Nothing was bad but nothing was great. I had the chef recommended dry rub steak(NY strip). I give it an okay, it wasn’t memorable. I asked our waiter about a beer on their menu, he didn’t have a clue. Atmosphere was pleaseant, and nice live music. Glad we had Living Social deal otherwise would’ve been less happy. Sorry, not coming back to this one.

After eating at Tazzina, I was very excited to try this restaurant after seeing that the executive chef was on top chef and that the dessert on the menu(nonnies lemon pistachio cake) helped him win the dessert round on the show. This restaurant is something different for your taste buds, because it is a blend of Asian and Italian fusion. Appetizer: We had the duck tacos to start, which came with guacomole on the top. These were really good, with a lot of flavors going on. My bf really liked these. Dinner: We split the penne ala vodka with bacon so we would have room for dessert. They made this well, but we were expecting a little more bacon! haha Dessert: We had nonnies lemon pistachio cake of course. This was prob the best part for me. The ambience was perfect and we got to feed each other pieces, trying to scoop up all the homemade ice cream & whipped cream :)

Looking for something sweet late-night in Glen Cove? Let DoraNonnie take care of you. They sure took care of me. All I wanted was something chocolaty, cakey and handmade. I needed dessert, and nothing, I mean NOTHING was open. As we had just given up, we saw the brilliant light od DoraNonnie, and I was rescued — their chocolate bomb truly saved the evening. Served with strawberry gelato, fresh berries and hand-made whipped cream, this chocolate soufflé was uuuuuuuh-mayzing. They’re baked to order, so when I cut into it, steam rose, the molten center gushed and I totally drooled. Coupled with a glass of ruby port, it was bliss. The staff was friendly, accommodating and attentive — they didn’t seem the least bit annoyed that we walked in what must have been minutes prior to closing. We sat at the bar, and they brought us some rice crackers and a delicious ratatoille-esque tapanade along with water. Great service, for sure. I’m looking forward to returning for dinner sometime. The only thing that kind of turned me off was the dirty bar top — there was something sticky smeared all over it, and it was mildly gross eating within inches.

Hey all you Food Hounds out there… it’s olé’ Brim taking point on this Tidbit Review! We had the privilege of dining at DoraNonnie Tappas & Wine Bar; the new restaurant of Top Chef — Season 5 contestant, Danny Gagnon. Nestled inside the comfy deliciousness of Bernard’s Market & Café, a landmark in Glen Head, New York is a serious gem for true foodies. Now even though I may seem to be a tad bit partial because I know Danny for quite some time now… I can assure you that when it comes to food — I don’t play favorites! First comes first, let me tell you that the ambiance of the restaurant itself is fantastic. It is the perfect type of location you are looking for to either take a new potential significant other on a first date or for the couple married many years looking for a romantic evening out away from the kids. This is certainly the environment that I would be looking to take a business client I’d want to impress; it is clean, quiet and the service is impeccable. Now that I’ve covered the place itself… let’s talk about the food. OMG the food!!! DoraNonnie boasts a theme of Italian-Asian Fusion that I have rarely seen done right. Not only does Gagnon do it right; but the Hounds including yours truly were literally blown away! I’ve had the pleasure of dining on Danny’s cuisine in the past and it’s always been good; however the food that we witnessed on this specific evening was hands down spectacular from presentation to taste. We started off with a variety of different flavors from the Tapas Menu including a few things that I never thought I would eat… ever! Long Island Duck Tacos took the win for me with flavor that will make your taste-buds pop! The blend of the shredded, lightly seasoned duck combined with pickled radish, avocado mousse and a lightly fried tortilla was phenomenal. We had the Mozzarella Pillow to which you could die for… seriously, I almost choked on the cheese! It was lightly breaded and fried to a slight crisp, served with the most amazing tomato sauce(Remember… we speak Sauceanese and it spoke to us!) and it was every bit as fluffy as we were told. Another interesting tasty treat we had were the Pork & Beef Meatball Lollipops which were slammin! It was like a full Italian meal in every bite as they were VERY flavorful aside from being drizzled with aged balsamic reduction. Next I was thrown a curve-ball… Sweet Soy Calamari. You want the truth, I was scared! Don’t get me wrong, the presentation was fantastic; but I have never eaten Calamari before, nor did I ever want to experience it. Well, I went for it and literally could not stop eating it! It was bursting with vibrant flavor reminiscent of a sweeter General Tso’s Chicken. The calamari was lightly fried and tossed with fire roasted red peppers(amazing bright red color), shaved scallions and flat leaf parsley with surprisingly no fishy flavor whatsoever. I’d definitely order that again. Speaking of fish, we were brought an order of the Pan Seared Scallops which as far as scallops are concerned were ginormous! I personally did not partake in this dish simply because of a potential allergy issue(good excuse); however the rest of the crew killed the plate! They were served on a bed of saffron parsnip purée and sauteed cherry tomatoes. We had the Ginger Poached Chicken Lettuce Cups which in my opinion were ok, I wasn’t a fan. Lastly, we had the Sicilian Asian Braised Short Ribs Sliders which were BOSS! The sliders’ sauce was on point and left me speechless. Topped with eggplant caponata and nestled between a brioche bun… this was a serious win! For the main course, we enjoyed the Applewood Smoked Bacon Penne alla Vodka(and I took home the Marinated Skirt Steak… shhh!!!). The penne was really delicious; but paled in comparison to the flavor of the aforementioned Tapas items. It was delicious, creamy and did not have an overwhelming bite to it as some other vodka sauces do. The skirt steak on a side note was good; loved the marinade but I would have preferred to eat it there rather than hoping for it to survive my 45 minute ride back home. We finished off the meal with an array of delicious delectables including a chocolate molten lava cake and pistachio-lemon cake. Perfect end to a great meal! As far as pricing is concerned, everything is extremely reasonable with your highest priced entrée at $ 22. We really had a wonderful time at this Tidbit and will probably be back again soon to try some of the other concoctions that they have available. Furthermore, Bernard’s itself has an array of amazing food(not all prepared by Gagnon) as well as plenty to see in its market. Certainly worth your time and shekels to take a visit.

Such a pleasant surprise. I recently had dinner here with 5 of my girlfriends and we all had such an enjoyable dinner. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived until we paid our check. We met at the bar first for a glass of wine and were served this dish of Eggplant Capanota with Crackers & Bread. It was yummy and I knew we were off to a great start. You have to try the carrot soup with a cappuccino like foam on top… this was amazing. We had a sampler of tapas… duck tacos, poached asian style chichen lettuce cups and lollipop meatballs. Each tapas was better than the next. We all had the Citrus Salmon and you could taste the carmelization of the citrus which was also superb. The best part was the Chef’s special Lemon Pistachio Pound Cake which was served with gelato on the side-as my daughter would say…“OMG”! At the end of the maincourse Chef Danny Gagnon came over to personally greet us and tell us a llitle about himself and the restaurant and also thank us for coming, which I thought was a very nice gesture. You could see he certainly takes pride in what he does. I very much recommend you try this restaurant as it is a lovely addition to Glen Head, reasonably priced, has a lovely atmosphere and shouldn’t be kept a secret.

I went to Dora Nonnie in Glen Head this week. Dora Nonnie is tucked away next to Bernard’s Marketplace on Glen Head Avenue. For all of you Top Chef fans, this is the home of Danny Gagnon(Season 5). You may also know Danny from his days at The Carriage House in Babylon. When I first walked in, I couldn’t help but walk around the market and see all of the beautifully prepared foods and desserts. Then I walked into the other side to a very welcoming dining area with subdued lighting. The waiter greeted me right away and brought over an Eggplant Capanata with crackers, which was very nice. We ordered tapas dishes; Long Island Duck Tacos, Sweet Soy Calamari, Pan Seared Scallops, Chicken Lettuce Cups & Penne all a Vodka. My favorites were the scallops and the penne, however everything was fantastic. At the end of the meal Danny came out of the kitchen to see how everything was, which was cool. Oh, and I almost forgot The Pistachio Pound Cake was out of this world, and an excellent way to end my meal. Do yourself a favor and check out Dora Nonnie, this place IS the real deal. You will absolutely love it!

No, just no. There is certainly a way to combine italian and asian cuisine, this simply is not it. Very bizarre weird flavors, i had high hopes but it really fell short.

I’m a fan of ‘Top Chef’ and heard Danny Gagnon, a season 5 contestant, opened this place in Glen Head. I took a date last night with no knowledge of the menu and hadn’t seen any reviews since the place is so new — I just wanted to meet Danny ‘cuz I loved him on the show. The space he designed is great. Lots of glass and a beautiful bar. It’s cleanly laid out and romantic — perfect date spot. It’s also attached to a gourmet Italian deli so you can grab a jar of Nutella on your way out. The staff is energetic, will recommend wines to compliment different foods and very courteous. The menu isn’t huge, but in addition to entrees, has a good tapas section, so we ordered pork & beef lollipops, ginger chicken lettuce wraps, short rip sliders, soy calamari and cream carrot soup(which was so good, it was utterly insane). I was blown away by the food. Every single thing was delicious, loaded with this unusual mix of Italian and Asian flavors and it all pops in your mouth. On top of that, the prices are reasonable — about ½ what you’d pay for a similar meal in Manhattan. Oh, and Danny came out from the kitchen to greet me when I told the waiter why I’d come. I’ve only written one other review on this site and they say you only bother doing it when a place is awesome or horrible. This place is awesome — I’m already planning to go back with a larger group.
