Specialties
Fine wines (most are not the typical brand names seen at other outlets); craft beers; specialty liquors (bourbon, cognac, single malt scotches)
History
Established in 1956.
The store was purchased in 1956 by my father, Stanley Mitchel. He and a partner had purchased a liquor store in Englewood, NJ called Beekman Liquors because the seller lived on Beekman Place in NY. The partners kept the name and also applied it when they purchased the Glen Rock store.
The partnership dissolved with my father taking the Glen Rock store, which at the time was a liquor/deli. My father soon got rid of the deli, took over the neighboring store, and expanded out the back. He began the transition from primarily a liquor and beer store to a wine shop. When I came aboard in 1986, I continued that trend. Today wine represents over 60% of our sales.
Meet the Business Owner
Joel M.
Business Owner
Joel planned to be a college professor but ended up in the family business. He took a Sommelier course, read a lot about wine, and drank a bottle or two. Eventually he began to teach a local wine course, first through the Fort Lee Adult School, then through the Glen Rock Community School, and now through the Ridgewood Community School.
