Hertz Rent A Car

After my van was totaled by a teen driver, State Farm directed me to this Hertz location for a temporary rental. The rental office is located inside the Sunrise Chevy car dealership sales floor and can be accessed from the east side of the building. I called ahead to be sure that someone was going to be at the desk and when I arrived. The person at the desk was friendly and helpful and had the car all set to go. The whole process was maybe 7 minutes long.
When I returned the car 10 days later, I dropped it off after hours and put the keys in the drop box. I realized early the next morning that I had left my personal key ring attached! When I called about it at 7:36 am, the person who answered was just in the process of calling me to let me know she’d found them and would have them waiting for me whenever I got up there.
All in all the the whole rental process was a pleasant experience at this location.

State Farm contacted Hertz at this location to allow me to rent a car after my accident. I showed up during their business hours and no one was there to serve me (or anyone else for that matter). There was a sign at the desk saying they’d be back in 20 mins. The guys in the car dealership said they’d page the Hertz guys; I waited about 10 mins. and called the Hertz number. I had reached the Hertz office in Lombard. That guy told me the Glendale Hgts. person had stepped out, and that I needed to wait – but I had already waited, and I couldn’t any longer – my ride was leaving.
Today I’m going to Enterprise. They called me right away and have a car reserved. Bye-​bye, Hertz!

My car was in the shop and they were supposed to have a car ready for me. When I got there, I waited for 45 minutes for someone to assist me (I actually had to ask the car dealership they were attached to for assistance and they paged a Hertz employee).
When I returned the car, I forgot my iPass on the dashboard. I called them back as soon as I left the dealership and left a message. No response for 3 days. I called them again, and they told me they knew nothing about it. So apparently, they don’t do the post-​rental inspections they claim to do.
Unbelievably bad service. Everyone I have talked to so far has no idea what’s going on. Either that or they’re idiots. I will be contacting them for reimbursement if any charges show up on my iPass, as well as reimbursement for the cost of a new iPass to replace the one they «can’t find» in the car.

One star is generous. Hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had renting a car or really with anything. On my first visit I waited 45 minutes for anyone to even walk into the office and help me, and once someone got in the first thing they tell me is that someone was supposed to call me to tell me they didn’t have a car for me. I had the reservation made for a week. Of course after a few minutes of typing, that was no longer the case and there was an available car ???
The car itself was fine, except the gauge cluster read in kilometers and not miles per hour, which is Something they should not only alter themselves but at least warn the customer about. Upon returning the car I left my ipass in it. I realized this after their business hours and called and left a message. No one got back to me, so I tried again the next day and left another message. Today STILL no one got back to me so I called again and they assured me that not only has the car been given to someone else, but that my ipass «wasn’t in it». My bank account says otherwise.
Basically I would rather pour fire ants into my anus with a large funnel than ever go to this hertz again.

Absolutely, hands-​down, the WORST car rental experience I’ve ever had. We booked our rental weeks in advance for our Thanksgiving travel plans, I received all the proper confirmation emails etc., etc. Everything seemed fine. The morning we were supposed to retrieve our rental at 7:30 am at the Roselle location I noticed that my confirmation email suddenly read «location closed nov. 14-dec.1». ?! So I called hertz and they informed me that (obviously) a mistake had been made. Meanwhile, my husband is driving to the next closest location, hoping to salvage our morning and the beginning of our 14+ hour trip with an infant. Hertz regretfully I forms me that the nearest location is 30 minutes and two tollways away… so I walk into the Hertz rental location at the car dealership we had driven to, the person manning the desk tells me that yes… they have comparable cars but we would be charged 2 – 3 times our guaranteed rate because, verbatim, «it’s a supply and demand thing». I asked to speak with the manager, she informed me that he wasn’t present but that she was the area supervisor for ALL OF WEST SCHAUMBURG. Could she, would she help me? Nope. So we drove 30+ minutes to the unmanned Marriott hotel location waited another hour for our rental, and finally left for our trip. FOUR HOURS LATER. These people do not care. Ridiculously poor customer service, and the measly $ 25 discount for our troubles? Never appeared on our final invoice. Way to go Hertz. You heard her ALL OF WEST SCHAUMBURG under her jurisdiction… can we say enterprise?

Hertz called me back almost instantly to verify that they had vehicles in stock. They worked with me quickly over the phone to determine what my needs were and what kind of fuel economy their vehicles had.
When I arrived, the car and associated paperwork was waiting for me; all I had to do was sign and go. The car had been freshly cleaned inside and out, and I didn’t need to hassle over the typical insurance upsell. Very courteous staff made dealing with Hertz for the first time a pleasure. I will certainly return to this location for my rental needs, and consider Hertz for future travel.
