John Carter is a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor and has been since 1976, since 1990 when the MVD instituted the Revocation Evaluation process in screening those eligable to be reinstated John was one of the first to be certified by the MVD in this process. John’s family is rich in history when it comes to recovery here in the valley. starting projects like the Maverick House, Nova, Path of Willingness and now the Agape Counselling Center.

Mr. Carter began his career in the Crisis Unit at Terros, Inc. back in 1974. This involved helping people with drug related problems and those calling the suicide hot line.

In February of 1976 he was asked to come to work at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was certified through the Arizona Board of Certified Alcohol Counselors (ABCAC) in 1977. Since then he worked as an administrator in several programs throughout Phoenix, Arizona. He also started various programs to help DUI offenders and those on probation and parole.

He is an educator, lecturer, and author on dysfunctional family systems, substance abuse, DUI education, and substance abuse treatment. Author of the book, ‘God, Get Me Out Of This One!!!’: An Addict’s Prayer’, John is an interventionist and Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (L.I.S.A.C.) in the state of Arizona.
