First and foremost, this is the most welcoming environment I’ve ever been in. Michelle has the patience of no one else I’ve come across and made the entire experience of learning basics for knitting fun. I never for a moment felt uncomfortable or like I was taking too much of her time. $ 25 for the time I spent with her and the supplies, plus follow ups it’s more than amazing! I am looking forward to coming back in the store with my family.

Amazing selection and service. One of the nicest and most helpful owners I’ve ever met. Huge and varied selection of unique crafts and tools: really cool and old things you wouldn’t find most places, and everything you would expect in every size and color. Not your average store or service experience! Can’t recommend enough!

Came on a Saturday for the knitting 101 class for $ 25. Amazing!!! She was so patient and I didn’t feel pressured to leave ASAP. I think I was there for like three hours. Knotted the whole way home! Class comes with needles and yarn too. SUPER DEAL. Gotta come back for the basic jewelry class.

This is one of thee best locally owned & operated arts & crafts shops for the whole of Ridgewood & Glendale area and fabulous for those of you just learning a craft, those of us looking to perfect your craft or in need of hard to find specialty items for any project, Michelle is the lady to come to, she has a great disposition, is talented and can help anyone hone in on your talents what ever that may be or you want to become.
The shop is loaded with craft supplies for anything that falls under the arts & crafts genre and what they may not have in stock, Michelle will order it for ya. What’s better than that!

Had a wonderful knitting class with Michelle. She was so helpful. The class was so relaxing and I can’t wait to go back once!

Took my knitting lesson here with Michelle. It was great. got reacquainted with knitting again and started on a scarf. I also got to pet the dog. Pixel when I was there. I would definitely go back for another lesson on another project once im ready.

A Unilocal search for local knitting classes brought me to Cook’s Arts & Crafts, and I’m SO glad it did. First of all, $ 25 for 2.5 hours of one-​on-​one instruction AND materials that you get to keep?! Absolutely unheard of. Most other places that I researched were charging $ 50 – 75 for a 1-​hour group class! Michelle was SO kind and patient– truly a wonderful teacher and she was really informative about local area meet-​ups that she hosts for crafters (she teaches a myriad of crafts– not just knitting). I didn’t stay long to browse the wares much, but at a quick glance, the store seemed well-​stocked with crafting essentials.
One thing I would definitely recommend is to call or email in advance to find the best way to get there. I took the L and J from Williamsburg and ended up in a sorta sketchy area of Queens with a far (and also confusing because of a highway and golf course in between) hike from the train, when I could have just taken a quick Q55 bus directly outside her shop. Thank you so much, Michelle! I’ll definitely be back for some of the more intermediate courses!

Great place for one-​on-​one knitting lessons with Michelle, the store’s owner. Very dedicated and knowledgeable about her craft. Very patient. Stores sells a lot of other items, besides yarns, knitting needles, crochet hooks, etc. Also gives lessons in crocheting.

I took a one-​on-​one knitting class with the store’s owner. The class included the materials as well. The owner spent three hours with me and I learned the basic stitches and how to combine them. It was a great value. The owner is knowledgeable and patient. I will definitely return for more advance classes. I highly recommend the knitting classes offered at Cook’s Arts & Crafts!

I brought a living social deal to get a 2.5 hour introduction to knitting/​crocheting lesson. The class was one-​on-​one taught by the owner. She was a fabulous Instructor and spent over 3 hrs with me! This was my first time picking up a needle and I left knowing and feeling confident that I could knit my own ruffled scarf! She even provided me with visual paper instructions to guide me when knitting at home and made herself available to show me any techniques I learned again if needed. Can’t wait to attend another class in the future with the intermediate knitters!

I used a living social voucher for a crochet lesson, and Michelle (the owner) was very helpful and patient with me. She is very nice and down to earth. As I was crocheting, I almost felt like I was hanging out with a friend. We laughed, we talked, and I met her lovely dog Pixel at her store. Michelle was also very informative about picking the appropriate measurements of yarn for different types of crochet hooks… I’m going to use my bf’s voucher to take a knitting lesson with her.

I came here since I purchased a Groupon for a knitting class. I wasn’t expecting much since I’m not very crafty and wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to learn but the lady that owns the place (cant remember her name) was very nice and made sure that I got the concept before the class was over.
She even offer to keep helping me in the future if I had any issues for free. Where else do you get that kind of service?

What an amazing place! I purchased an offer for knitting/​crochet class on Living Social and it was the best purchase ever. I bought classes for me and my Mom thinking we can do the class together. When we signed up, the owner, Michelle, was actually trying to only teach each of us individually, one-​on-​one. But Michelle graciously took us both at the same time and patiently taught us to crochet. My Mom knows a little more crocheting than I do, so we were at different levels, but Michelle still managed to give us each her time and guidance. After this wonderful experience, I will be going back to learning knitting.
There is also so many hidden treasures in this shop as well. If you are looking for something but it’s not available, Michelle will order it for you. I actually needed a birthday gift for my 2-​year old niece, and Michelle recommended a puppy dog doll that you can color with washable markers. And it was the perfect gift because my niece wouldn’t let go of it after she opened it up on her birthday.
As the other reviewers stated, this place is one-​of-​a-​kind and is a true mom & pop store that we should all support. While taking the class, the customers that came in were given such great assistance from Michelle and she makes sure everyone leaves happy and satisfied. Forget those large chain arts & crafts store because you don’t get the kind of service and attention that Michelle gives to everyone who walks through her doors! Cook’s Crafts is the best!

I took a class here on hat knitting about a week ago. I chose Cook’s because they’re in Queens, and materials were included in the price of the lesson. It was supposed to be $ 30 for an hour but I was allowed to stay and learn for about two and a half hours. The woman who taught me was very patient – I had trouble getting the hang of the long-​tail cast on, but eventually managed. She was also extremely thorough. I took two knitting lessons at a different store in Pennsylvania, and both were much more expensive and nowhere near as helpful as this one.
The only things I’m not crazy about are the location and the set-​up. The store is kind of difficult to get to. I took two buses after an appointment in Forest Hills, and then walked about ten or fifteen minutes to the store. I didn’t get to explore the shop a lot, but it’s very crowded and there wasn’t a table for me to sit at to knit, just a chair near the front of the store. It did look like there were all manner of art– and craft supplies for sale, though, and at very reasonable prices to boot.
All in all, I would definitely recommend Cook’s to others. I finished my hat last night and it turned out absolutely beautifully.

Came in to the store and was greeted by Michelle. I called a few days before coming in today to ask for art smocks. She was just as friendly and pleasant on the phone as she is in person. She was very helpful and very informative. I would definitely come to this place before I go to Michael’s. Customer service is unbeatable. The store is full of different arts and crafts supplies!

So there’s a reason that Cook’s/Michelle has all 5 star ratings :-) The past reviewers were dead on btw.
I’m a Brooklyn girl born and raised, nearly 40 years. I moved to Queens and some serious culture shock! I researched several places in both bk and queens HEAVILY before I decided to immerse myself into my new hood and go for the small upfront no nonsense straightforward place to accomplish a single goal. learn to knit!
I’ll tell you now, if you wanna be in a hipster oriented tea serving trendy atmosphere, this place is not it. Michelle is sweet and all over the place. She spends her day with visitors, family, students and her sweet dog pixel. The store is jam packed with craft making goods and I mean packed! Luckily what I’m looking for is a genuine knowledgeable person who has the know how and materials I need to get to learning. This is the place for me.
It’s located across from a beautiful large park, right off a couple buses, her rates are competitive and her first class, one-​on-​one can’t be beat. I can’t wait to practice till I’m good enough to start round two! Thx Michelle. give Pixel a nice long rub for me :-)

I had my first knitting lesson here on Saturday with Michelle the owner and I had a great time!!! She is so nice, friendly, and patient, plus she offers a great price for a one on one, two and a half hour class! If you are a beginner and having trouble, she will even let you come in with any issues and she will help you out… OR she will help you out via face time! YES face time!!! Who else would offer that? For free! She has a ton of products and I look forward to coming back to her for further instruction. A bonus to coming is here is you get to see her sweet little pup Pixel!

Since moving to Ridgewood I discovered the benefits of mom and pop stores. This being said I decided I wanted to take up crocheting. I have only attempted to learn through YouTube videos and had pathetically failed. Unilocal brought me to Michelle’s quaint little shop, a 10 min Q55 bus ride from my home.
I got there, unsure of the day of my appointment. Of course I went on the wrong day. Luckily for me her 1pm appointment didn’t show so she was able to see me. She explained the class was going to be one on one, and she just pulled up two chairs in front of her shop and we began. She had her very cute dog prancing about but when he seemed to be too distracting, let him sleep behind the register. I didn’t mind the dog though… he was super cute!!! I tried crocheting first, but after having a hard time executing the first stitching and Michelle explaining it was the harder of the two, she let me switch over to knitting. That was really nice of her! I’m always so flip floppy with stuff like this! When we starting the knitting, she was very sweet and patient with me, letting me learn the basics on my own before moving on to the next thing.
The beginner’s class was 2 and a half hours (3 and half because of idle conversation and Michelle’s patience!) with all materials included (yarn, sticks, helpful printouts) for about 25 bucks. She even lets you come back for free with any follow up questions. Who can beat that deal? In Cobble Hill they were trying to charge me 75 bucks and it wasn’t even one on one! Thanks to Michelle I actually have a chance of finishing a scarf!
