Dreamworks Commissary

Had lunch with an old friend who works at DreamWorks Animation. The commissary has free lunch for employees. I had the beef tacos, they also had a sandwich bar and salad station. Tacos were good, the beef was shredded and well seasoned. Everything was made fresh. Free drinks. Its pretty comparable to the Disney commissary.

Well this is where I eat lunch everyday for free, so how can I complain? I also have friends come by often to meet me for lunch. The food is pretty good on most days. But when its not, you can always eat at the grill.
The marinated grilled chicken breast is fantastic! And the quesadillas are pretty good too. One of lots of folks favorite meals is the firecracker chicken. And of course the chocolate chip cookies that come every couple weeks are the best! I gave up on the free breakfast, because it’s so good and I didn’t want to gain weight.
Sitting outside by the fountain or the lagoon is a beautiful place to eat lunch.

You know when you’ve walk into a place of greatness when they have a full fledge cafeteria. Literally anything you can think of it’s there and it’s all complimentary. So long story short I don’t even know how this place made it on Unilocal being that it complementary food that’s not open to the public, but I guess if you get an invite think ahead of what your in the mood for because anything here is possible and trust me when I say if you’re not sure what you want walking in could be overwhelming. It’s like an free, all you can eat buffet and everything on the menu tastes amazing.

YUM! There is something for everyone here. Rotating hot entrees (check the calendar to see what they’ll have that day), salads, soups, grilled items (sausage, hot dogs, burgers, chicken), side dishes, fresh fruit, panini sandwiches, desserts, and more. The food is definitely delicious and there is such a variety that you can always manage to get whatever you’re craving that day. There’s also a to-​go section with pre-​packaged sandwiches and veggies, if you’d rather grab that. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but head outside if there’s a table free and sit underneath the trees or by the fountain. Definitely a super relaxing environment to sit and enjoy lunch — if you’re lucky enough to be invited by an employee! :)

Recently had the opportunity to visit my husband and dine at the commissary at Dreamworks. The food there is awesome! The menu was Mexican themed on the day I was there. I made a carne asada salad and used pico di gallo and a spicy salsa as a dressing. It was amazing. Love the free refills on food, but you have to be careful not to eat too much since it is unlimited food. I had a soft serve yogurt cone for dessert and had to stop myself from going back for seconds. They have a nice outside eating area with lots of greenery. Hopefully, I can visit my husband again soon for lunch so I can enjoy another wonderful meal.

I came here to have a meeting with someone. It was my first time here. It’s crazy that the food here is free. Every other studio I’ve been to, you had to pay for your food. This kinda stuff boosts morale. For that reason I wished I worked here.
So I got in line, and I got mashed potatoes which was delicious. The second thing on the menu I couldn’t figure for the life of me what it was. It had some wacky name. The lady was about to put it on my plate, but I asked her what type of meat it was. She couldn’t figure it out herself. So she said it was like a country fried steak. I’m a pescatarian, so that means nope!
So for lunch I ended up having Mashed potatoes a few beans and a salad. Nothing terribly exciting, but it tasted good for something that’s free.

I love eating lunch here! Best you get to a free buffet. It reminds me of upscale UCLA Dorm food. They have tazo tea and great desserts!

HELL YEA! Free food… that’s as good or better than Google’s food!
I’ve been here only like a couple times (more than my check-​ins say unfortunately… I come twice a day :() so I’ll update this in case my experiences change over the next few months…
This place is AMAZING! Free breakfast, free lunch, and the servers are over-​generous with the portion sizes (you can stop them, I just didn’t know that was going to happen and was in shock when the lady filled my entire plate and I didn’t say anything).
Not only is the food good, everything is also always well-​stocked. (See picture) There was one day they had ribs and unlike at other buffets where it’s slim pickin’s, they keep everything full and as soon as something runs out or runs low they replenish it! There’s also 3 895 739 487 different teas for you to get tea from, coffee and Icee machines, and everything else you could imagine.
There’s also a to go section where you can grab sandwiches, yogurt, salads, hard boiled eggs, quinoa, and a buncha other things to eat later.
So far the only thing I’d avoid is the mixed berry bread (too mysterious of a texture). Everything else I’ve tried have been pretty good!
ALSO DO NOT SIT UNDERNEATH THE TREES OUTSIDE or at least check first unless you’re cool with having giant spiders swinging, hovering, and chilling above your head. Too much action for me personally though.
Gonna have to check yourself before you wreck yourself here. I’ve heard that the ice cream machine makes soft serve like McDonald’s, not like the regular sandy tasting buffet-​y kind… might be dangerous information.
Go if you can and get wild. Then go join body sculpting to sculpt that extra body you just made.

Easily the best work food I’ve ever had, and it’s free for employees and their guests!
Their menu selections vary daily and there are always nice surprises. On Fridays there is an omelette station and for lunch there’s an outdoor grill every day. If you’re on a diet it’s pretty easy to count your calories by getting some of the same items every day (grilled chicken breast, salad bar, fat-​free dressings, etc).
For those who insist on exchanging money for food, there’s a Starbucks on property next door.

The dining hall at Dreamworks (a.k.a the Commissary) is SO BOMB. I don’t know if there’s a better way to put it. If you are not an employee, you could only dine here by invitation (i.e., an employee gets a guest pass for you).
Here are some of my favorite meals during my time here. I also think it’s very representative of the range of food that’s been served:
Japanese curry katsu, Philly cheesesteak sandwich, Mahi Mahi fish tacos with mango salsa, Fish sticks with tartar sauce, BBQ beef carnita sandwich with french onion shavings, Biscuits with gravy and honey (for breakfast). YUM YUM YUMMMM

My friend is an animator for Dreamworks and I love when he invites me over for lunch!
This place is amazing! Salad bar has infinite options, there are different stations of gourmet fare. It’s kinda like an upscale college cafeteria with really delicious foods that are FREE for employees and family. Salad bar has all kinds of greens, beans, grains, nuts, staple vegetables as well as non-​traditional such as chopped eggplant and marinated mushrooms. Hot Food bar today had dirty rice and beans, and New Orleans Jambalaya.
Sandwich/​Panini station, Burger station. Soda fountains with both Coke and Pepsi products. Soft-​Serve froyo and IceCream for desert plus fresh baked goods: today: cookies and chocolate macaroon brownies.
What an ideal place to work! Foozeball, game rooms, gym, yoga classes, secret hidden rooms for parties and late afternoon in-​house happy hour (BYOB of course). Young sexy nerds and creative thinkers. Two thumbs up (three if I had a spare)!

Oh wait, this is about the commissary. I was only there after hours, so all I can rate is the ice cream and cookies. 5 stars. I don’t know how all of you working there don’t actually LOOK like Po.

Its great that they feed you breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner (when you’re working late) and the food is actually really good. What a great place to work! I want to visit more often

DreamWorks Animation’s commissary is actually run by Bön Apetit catering. You can do a search on the company to learn more about their company, but they really, really care about having quality food for the masses.
The food is fantastic. Sure, they get creative and have a few misses (zuchinni crumble?) but overall there is always something delicious and tasty to eat.

Considering Dreamworks Animation has been continually ranked at the top of Fortune 100’s best companies to work for, it is no surprise that their Commissary and dining facilities are one of THE best in the industry. Not only are employees and guests allowed to eat a free breakfast and lunch daily, but the food has unfailingly been ever-​so amazing and scrumptious.
To spice things up, there are always different varieties of menu items every day, ranging from traditional American food to exotic ethnic fair which is sometimes hit-​or-​miss. Popular items (firecracker chicken and fish n’ chips) often repeat themselves yearly much to the delight of some, but the new menu everyday keeps things interesting. Nevertheless, for those who seek comfort food, there is always a traditional sandwich counter, soup deli, as well as a burger grill for the unadventurous. The commissary also has a wide spectrum of different desserts served daily, and a broad selection of drinks to choose from. Having limitless options is the name of the game.
To top it off, the atmosphere is always jovial, with people milling about and chatting even in off-​peak hours, and the kitchen staff are always polite and willing to entertain second, third, and even fourth servings if you are so inclined. For such a great price (Free) and premium quality of food, I have literally never been to a better place on earth. If Dreamworks were to ever diversify and go into catering, I’m sure it would make as much money as it would from its movies.
Like its namesake, eating here definitely feels like a dream come true, each and every day — The only problem is that I don’t work here anymore!
