Dr. Akamatsu, OD gives each patient a lot of time. He is extremely patient and very skilled. He and his staff are also very friendly!

been going to this optometry office for the past 30 years … dr. akamatsu and his staff are very professional and courteous and their office doesn’t have a corporate feel to it. as others have said, free 90 minute parking in the parking structure immediately west of the office.

Very good eye MD. Through eye exam. His employees are very nice and professional. Not that many eye glasses to choose from compare to other places, but it’s sufficient. Free 90 minutes parking if you park in the nearby garage.

I love the entire staff. They know your name and the service is great. Dr. A. Is awsome

I’ve been going to Dr. Akamatsu for years. He’s really attentive, professional and genuinely concerned with his patients. His staff is nice, hospitable and accommodating. They schedule you appropriately so whenever I come for my appointment theres no long wait. Also, it’s a smaller optometrist shop, compared to those retail giants so it’s more personable and family oriented here. Dr. Akamatsu knows you on a first name basis. Thanks Doctor for taking care of my eyes! See you soon!

Came in because i lived nearby, and didn’t want the terrible customer service of the glendale galleria’s Lenscrafters (for which i’ve written a lengthy review), nor the criticisms about my crappy insurance from Happy Eyes (though eventually we had a meeting of the minds), and hopped across the street to check out this optometry place. little did i realize that i had passed by this nondescript shop multiple times. it is across the street from porto’s/da juice bar, the 24 hour fitness, and one lot down from Brand Books, which is about to close, incidentally.
the experience started when i called in for an appointment. i gave my pertinent info and my eye insurance name and was given a date and time. however about thirty minutes later i got a call back asking if my insurance was correct, to which i replied that i didn’t really know (but it had and i hadn’t known), but the lady on the phone was kind enough to try another insurance place before calling me to confirm that the appointment was still set and that my insurance provider was actually VSP, and not MES. haha, oops!
arrived at the location a few minutes early, was greeted pleasantly and was almost almost immediately seated and given two quick exams of some sort before being ushered into the dr’s office a few feet away. dr akamatsu is polite, professional, congenial and comfortable to be around. while conducting the eye exam, we chatted about my job and the housing market and before i knew it, the exam was over and i got to choose some frames.
i think this is the only weakness of this establishment, although all of its strengths greatly override this, but it is that there isn’t the largest selection of frames, which has been commented on. there are a lot of generic frames, and some raybans, kenneth coles, and a few others, but not nearly the selection of any national-​branded superstore chain, which i suppose, should not have been a surprise. i asked if they carried oakley’s frogskins for a sunglass prescription, which they didn’t but said that for the brands that they did carry, they could try ordering the specific frame that i wanted, or that i could bring in my own frames for them to fit. as it so happened i found some frames that i really liked and didn’t need to go through any of that. the frames arrived in exactly one week, and fit great. i was notified as soon as they were available, and given alternate times to pick them up and they were ready when i walked in. i was in and out in about a minute, no hassle whatsoever. i would definitely come here again.

Clean, small. I am always able to get an app to fit my schedule even on short notice. They have an ok eye glass frame selection, I would like to see more. When I got my first contacts they taught me how to use them and keep them clean. I have been going here for years. Great optometrist.

I’ve been coming to Dr. John Akamatsu for almost 10 years now. He’s very professional and kind, and the staff is always so helpful and sweet. They’re very accommodating, I never have to wait long, and I never feel rushed. Even though I live in Pasadena, I still make the trip over to Glendale, because I just love the treatment I get from this business :)

Dr. Akamatsu has been our family vision provider for over 9 years. I have been to lens crafters and return to see Dr. Akamatsu because of the personal attention he provides to my family and I. Would love to see more selections in children’s frames however staff is always willing to special order for my family.
