Moonlight Rollerway Skating Rink

I never do negative Unilocal reviews, but skating here on an all-​age skate in a Sunday afternoon was such a terrible experience for my family that I felt obligated to say something. The rink should limit the number of people allowed entrance to ensure that people who are skating can enjoy themselves safely. It was so crowded that even excellent skaters could not find space and had to go very very slowly. Also several 7 to 8 year old boys were skating fast and the wrong direction on purpose, clearly with much expertise, and they took out little kids, as well as adults. After one of them skated right into me and my son knocking us flying like bowling pins, we decided we had had enough. The rink-​employed skaters responsible for ensuring safety and consistency of direction acknowledged that the kid who hit us had been spoken to at least five times, but they took no action. He took out a 3 year old and mother within five minutes of hitting us. No idea where the parents were but regardless the rink should have put a stop to his skating recklessly and the wrong direction. So much wrong with the service and how this place ran the free skate that we will never be back. Too bad too, it is much closer than the skate rink in Northridge but at least there the rink is run competently.

Okay. I’m a regular at this place, I go every Saturday and usually Friday’s as well. Anyways recently the DJ Will has been AMAZING. I really wish that he would be the DJ much more often on Friday and Saturday. It makes me really happy that he does a quite a bit of specials like Advanced Backwards, Beginners Backwards, and Couples Skating. And all the music he plays is really fun to skate to.

Fun stuff didn’t limbo but still had fun here. Definitely coming back maybe a monthly treat. Lol

Good clean fun for the whole family. This place doesn’t look like much from the outside and the neighborhood is sketchy, but that’s nit why you’re here. This place is a time capsule from a simpler time. Go around in a circle and try not to fall down, enjoy the music, laugh at your friends, maybe share a popcorn. There are toddlers and grandfathers having a good time.
The rental skates are in good shape and you’ll save some money if you bring your own skates or blades. No outside food allowed, of course. But the concession prices aren’t bad and there’s some real food options: pizza, corn dogs, chicken tenders, and plenty of snacks. No alcohol or intoxicated guests.
The rink monitors are vigilant and helpful, but not oppressive. Everyone behaves without any problems. Even after a couple visits, I still haven’t seen anyone get hurt.
I’ll definitely be back again… especially during El Niño.

Inspired by the 2005 movie, «Roll Bounce» (which apparently not a lot of people have seen nor heard of!), I entered the rink with a lot of enthusiasm, ready to brave the sleek wooden floors like I was born for this. My friend was hosting her birthday party here that night and she’s an excellent skater! So, naturally, I pictured myself gliding around effortless by her side and with everyone else just like Bow Wow and his gang did in the film. However, I realized VERY quickly that it’s a lot harder than it looks…
Two seconds after I strapped on my $ 4 rentals, I stood to test the new wheels and my confidence plummeted. I looked liked bambi standing on a sheet of ice! Or an awkward giraffe who grew limbs faster than the brain can process movement. While others were weaving and rolling right past me, I straight up fell on my ass a good 4 times… and surprisingly, it didn’t hurt (much)! After getting back up and trying over and over, I became addicted to the motion. It was so FUN! Getting into the groove of things, the rink starts to feel a lot smaller. The disco mood lighting was great and the 70s music playing in the background was spot on. They also announced a nice happy birthday to her over the PA system which was sweet!
Overall, a decent rink! The shoes smell kind of rancid and look a little old, but they’re rentals so you can’t really be picky. There were also guards circling the area at all times and regulating people, making sure there aren’t any lingerers by the railing and causing traffic.
The parking lot is teeny tiny and spots fill up really quickly, so your best bet is street parking. Turn onto a neighboring residential street and you’ll be fine.

Oh, Glendale… I am starting to think you are cooler than I thought. It took over three years for me to finally make my way here, even though I live only a mile away. I had some friends over, the kind of friends that are down for just about anything (you all have one, gotta love ‘em).and when I threw out skating, they were game.
I decided to deck out in my A’s gear (hat, knee highs, the whole bit), then convinced them to wear my hats as well. It wasn’t until we parked and were walking down dark San Fernando Rd. that one of them asked if this was the best idea to roll in with Oakland gear. PSSSSH. I could care less! We may be in Dodger territory, but as long as we weren’t sporting Giants or Padres stuff, I thought we’d be fine. And I am going to be 100% honest here and tell you that I was naïve. Nothing happened, but we definitely drew some looks and we were glad none of our heavy-​drinking friends were there to start stuff. But hey, other than that… this place was nothing but good old-​fashioned clean fun, haha. (We may have been drinking already by the time we arrived.)
Skate rentals and entrance was cheap — I think $ 13 for each of us? The music was good — they played my favorite Beyonce song as we started — «Love on Top.» Best song to skate to. Except when you don’t really know how to skate and almost topple over cause you’re bouncing to the beat.
I didn’t like their weird roll the dice game that took 15 minutes of our skate time away. I also didn’t like that it was so crowded but we went on a weekend. But the rest of it was just so damn fun. I can’t wait to go back, but I probably should buy some skates to practice with before I do. Good times, Glendale!

I was in a music video that was filmed here. Came by a few times before filming to practice. The place is old and has a vintage feel to it. Lovely and extremely helpful staff.

Hmmm came for a birthday party… very generic everything, mini corndogs — a okay… needed more cooking time, nachos — pretty tasty, wish we had more actually. Pizza — simple does the job. Soda — beyond flat. Ring is very clean and music is happening. I sucked at skating but still had fun. Oh yes it is beyond hot in here too. eek!

She should have went to school back in the day if she doesn’t like working deadbeat jobs at her age. Not sure if I’d want to see her as a nurse either but w/​e! I hope everyone reads this and takes their business elsewhere!

I’m wondering where all these fantastic reviews come from.
My friend wanted to celebrate her birthday here for country night. I paid $ 15 to sweat my freaking butt off. There was absolutely no air conditioning. Perhaps if they cleaned any of their vents, there may be a better airflow. The vents were extremely clogged with dust and who knows what else. They tried to make up for it with random fans everywhere, but those didn’t help at all.
The entire rink is super old school, really outdated. The music was horrible, with the exception of maybe four good songs the entire four hours.
The staff seemed odd, I’m thinking they must all be family, and the perhaps it’s family owned. The referees on the rink were obnoxious with their whistles right behind you. You couldn’t skate too slow, you couldn’t skate close to the wall. All the while, there’s some jackasses speed skating all around you almost knocking you down.
The mechanical bull just shouldn’t even be allowed. The guy operating it looked entirely annoyed and injured two different riders.
I may return, and I hope there isn’t any more heat.

Talk about feeling old. I can’t believe these kinds of places still exist. You can rent skates! Like the ones with 4 wheels setup like a car chassis under your feet, not even rollerblades. It’s only $ 14, which is a bargain for this kind of goofy fun. I hadn’t been on rollerskates in at least 10 years and they don’t exactly set you up with the finest equipment, although I think it’s on purpose to keep the inexperienced from going too fast.
I had a lot of fun though and you can get going pretty fast on the rental skates. it definitely felt like I was up around 10 to 12 mph which sounds slow, but you can feel it and there isn’t much room to pick up speed, you have to constantly keep going in a counter clockwise motion. At one point toward the end of the evening, everybody had to clear out and then 5 or 6 really experienced skaters who could go backwards showcased their talent which was funny and exciting.
They have a concession stand type area in the back where you can get soda, candy, funnel cake and I think hot dogs. I think I paid like $ 3 for a medium diet coke, but whatever. It really took me back to like 15 years ago when I would actually go to skate rinks, nostalgic and a lot of fun. Part of me wishes there would serve some beer which would really hit the spot, although I’m sure that’s a recipe for disaster on the rink. Finally, make sure you bring an extra shirt, you will be soaking wet in sweat after a very short period of time on the skates.

My only complaints: not enough parking in the lot. (But we usually find parking around the corner). Food service is extremely SLOW… They include games that are… kinda lame. And if you don’t wanna play the games — you have to get off the rink.

I love the kid’s session (1pm-​4pm). During the 1−4pm hours you can enjoy watching children fall all over the place. It’s hilarious. Kids with walkers look like miniature old people. The DJ plays oldies and every 15 – 20 minutes they have some sort of game, such as the Hokie Pokie, Red Light Green Light, and more. There is a night session (18+), is technically for adults but I can’t imagine it being as good as the daytime (all ages but mostly kids celebrating their birthdays). There are parking spots in the front, but the spots fill up quickly so you may need to find street parking. The price is fair. $ 9 per person plus $ 4.75 for skate rentals. Save $ 5 if you bring your own skates. Bring 2 quarters for a locker so you don’t have to worry about your stuff and I would lock up your phone for safety, you don’t want to be falling on your ass and smash it while you skate. They have vending machines and a café that serves pizza and slushies and more.
A super fun time. Everyone is very friendly and when kids crash, the staff skates in to the rescue.

Ready to relive your younger years? or perhaps go on a first date? This place will do.

Took my nieces here today for a skate round, they had a blast! Decent music, they had skating «referees» to keep an eye on people who went splat, and plenty of room to move. There are also little helper skate frames for weenies, which the girls took advantage of. The rental skates are a little gross but they are rental so nobody expects Louboutins haha.
The only problem really was parking. Ugh the lot is so tiny. So just carpool and you’ll be fine. A fun spot for kids and big kids!

What a gem! This throwback is fantastic, I go on Wednesday «rainbow» night. Everyone is friendly and I always recognize the regulars. All skill levels are represented, but I’d suggest being comfortable on skates before joining us in funky town. Some even dress up in costumes.

I’m always looking for fun things to do in LA at night besides going to a bar, I was so pleased to find this spot! This is def one of those places you can go and have the time of your life whether you’re a child or an adult. The entire place is a throw back to the 80’s, my absolute favorite genre! Arcade games, concession stands & an incredible roller skating rink with a giant disco ball will have you feel like you’ve traveled back in time. They even have lockers for 50 cents to safely store your belongings. The DJ plays both top 40 & throwbacks. No alcohol unless you rent the place out for a private event. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Admission runs from $ 7 – 9.25. Skate rental is $ 4.75. They also offer 1 hour skate lessons for $ 16.
To rent the place out for 2 hours with 50 people max it starts at about $ 725 & the party can’t start until 11 – 11:30pm. They also have afternoon rentals some days. To rent it out during business hours I believe it starts at about $ 7,000.
If you rent the place out you can serve your guests alcohol (you must provide the alcohol) for an additional cost (a $ 150 alcohol liability needs to be purchased as well).
I haven’t had that much fun in years, so I def recommend visiting this place with friends, family or your significant other!

I can’t! I just love this place so much. They’ve shot a lot of cool movies here including scenes from Lovelace (netflix it). But the best thing about it is that you can be any age, race, or sexual orientation and still get your freaky deaky Miley Cyrus on, if you know what I’m saying.
