Target Optical

John, the manager, is probably the most patient and helpful person in the world (I know this sound like a bold claim… but he’s up there for real!) and he always has a smile to greet each customer. He takes time with me to help me choose the perfect frame and lenses, and if anyone comes in less than satisfied he’s the first to offer to make it right. Even after my order comes in he makes sure to adjust my frames to the optimal comfort. Bonus: you can stop in anytime to get your glasses adjusted. The staff there even happily makes adjustments and minor repairs if you didn’t get your glasses from Target… that’s service.
Dr. Waldman is great too. I have a very high prescription and wear contacts and glasses. My eyes are sensitive to most contacts so he takes the time to make sure I find the contacts that I am most comfortable in, and then he gives me samples to bring home and try.
I started going to Target Optical in Glendale because it was semi-​convenient but I keep going back because of the customer service from John and the competence of Dr. Waldman. Go here!

Solid straight shooting doctor. He does a great job with the eye exam and there really isn’t more than I can say other than I liked the way I was treated as a patient and that I highly recommend this location for quality of service.
Always take one star reviews with a grain of salt, especially when it looks like they have only done a few reviews. They rarely talk about good visits and only post when they have had a bad one.

Service here is not good and I felt tricked. My copay was higher than it was supposed to be, and when I followed up with my insurance company, they called the doctor and was told that I was given an «extra» test that wasn’t covered by co-​pay. The doctor or whoever spoke with insurance said I was informed about this – WRONG!!! The doctor just kept going on with everything in the appointment, directing me what to do and never once said anything about extra charge and even seemed shocked I hadn’t had all of these tests done before.
Then, they charged me incorrectly for my contacts – they took my insurance co-​pay for actual glass lenses instead of the full coverage I should have had for the contacts. Needless to say I will never be back and highly recommend against coming here.

I went here to get my contacts and glasses & I wish I could get my money back. Not because I had a problem with the products… I have a problem with the ethics he’s running his practice with. I scheduled an appointment using their online service while traveling on business because I thought I had scratched my eye and it wasn’t healing & I was in pain. I scheduled the appt. in an open slot through the scheduling system for a Sat. — the 1^st day I’d be back in town & able to see a doctor. The office called me to ask why I was coming in. When I told them, they said a) well that’s a medical claim and we don’t take your medical insurance and b) the doctor doesn’t do «red eye» exams on Saturdays. I asked why… the staff said it’s just because he’s very busy on the weekends. I WAS his patient, I booked an appointment through his system in a time he was available, I was perfectly capable of paying for the visit (not that they asked) and I was a patient who was in pain and needed treatment. I work in the insurance industry. I’ve seen it a million times… doctor’s wanting to book their peak weekend time slots when they can bill insurance and sell a bunch of contacts & glasses. Any doctor that would turn away a patient who is in pain, has an appointment and is able to pay is not a doctor I want anything to do with. If you’re looking for a real eye doctor that cares about his patients, try my new eye doctor John Bardash on Yale & Monaco! He got me in to his completely booked schedule that same Saturday having never met me before & has taken excellent care of me as I’ve had to see him multiple times since for what turned out to be a very serious eye issue.

I agree with other poster. Felt used-​car salesman like. Is this really Target we know and love or some company inside of Target with a license to sell glasses under Target’s name?
When I asked if I can have my print out of what my insurance will pay, they said it was a HIPPA violation to give that print out to me I don’t see how it’s possible to be a HIPPA violation to have my own record? Weird.
I won’t go back. I gave Target Optical one shot and they blew it.

This place has continued to show excellent customer service time and time again! No matter what time of day or year the staff greets every customer when they walk in the door. They are a very busy store location but needless to say I have never felt that they have not genuinely wanted to help each customer. Dr. Waldman is a great eye doctor who also holds true to caring about his patients. This place is fantastic!

When you walk away from any kind of physical appointment laughing and smiling you know you have found a special place. Dr. Waldman and his team were absolutely incredible! His assessment and prescription for my contacts still has me feeling like a new person, he suggested a different prescription than I have had and words cannot describe how my overall vision is right now.
I regrettably did not catch the young ladies name who helped me check out, but she was very patient and thorough as we look at options of glasses for me. I will certainly be back and am grateful for the experience I had today!

The customer service at this location is horrible. I haven’t seen the Dr. so this review only relates to the other staff and sales practices. When we originally bought glasses for my son, I felt like I was being sold a used car… lots of «running the numbers», never giving a straight answer, trying to get us to buy more expensive lenses, etc. I did get the protection plan because my son is a 10 year old boy! Just called back today to order a new pair because said 10 year old boy lost his glasses, and they tell me I have to buy a new protection plan to cover the new glasses even though I still have 9 months left on the original plan. Ridiculous. I will not be returning.

Target Optical rocks! After going to this location for years, I decided to try everyone else — LensCrafters, Sears, Walmart — and the «grass is not greener on the other side.» With frames from Oakley, Dolce & Gabbana, and Ray Ban, Target has the best frame selection and awesome lens. Best of all the staff work to make sure you’re satisfied. Dr. Waldman has all latest technical gadgets to give a very thorough exam. And Chantel has a great eye for helping you pick out stunning frames. Target has it all.

I wound up having to take two eye exams because my prescription didn’t feel focused right. The strength was off on my first order of contacts. The staff is exceptionally friendly, but unfortunately misinformed about the Target RedCard. I would have given 4 stars except they convinced me to buy $ 550 worth of contacts on the spot saying I could get a refund on the 5% from the card even if I didn’t sign up for a few days. Wrong. They people are phenomenal, but it is a giant chain, so you get what you pay for.

Eye Dr good; answered all my questions.
I called, they got me in in 1 hour.
Service people were efficient on ordering the glasses and taking the appointment.
Update review:
A week later I get a call that my glasses are in but they tell me that they couldn’t put my lenses in the frame that I picked, because they made a mistake, but they put my prescription in a different frame. Well I had to take the wrong frame because I was leaving town, and I needed glasses. the new frame they selected for me does not fit when you wear a hat because it goes straight back and the hat and the glasses interfere. So I spent 800 dollars and did not get what I ordered. The woman who took my order should have done this homework before the order. I changed my Unilocal review from 5 to 2.
They did tell me I can take back the new pair if I didn’t like it. The prices seem more than $$?

I was not impressed at all with the customer service during my visit tonight. The woman there was so busy calling patients and doing paperwork that it was like I wasn’t there. I managed to find a pair, but she was so disorganized I had to double check the appointment time and make sure she wrote down the correct frame. Not a good experience.

I definitely had my doubts going into an «Optical Center» at Target just because it’s outside the traditional office set up I’m used to, but I’m glad I put my reservations aside and just went.
First, of all, it really IS more convenient. Secondly, the doctor was quick and proficient and finally, the staff just rocks!
Imagine having a potato head (as my wife calls it). Not very easy to find glasses for me, right? Not at all. Tammy and Jon were patient and knew exactly what would work thus saving us more time. Then, the best part, Tammy really worked on discovering any discount she could provide, thus saving us a lot of money.
Of course with the money saved we just had to get our daughter some Ray Bans, but whatever, because we saved money we DID have that option.
Thanks to a great staff, this potato head and his family are back in style!

Target Optical may have saved my eyes! A few years back I started having irritation in both of my eyes that got progressively worse throughout the day. My regular eye doctor could not see me even though I said I had an emergency. I called Target and Chantel squeezed me in. By the time I got there my vision was blurry and I was panicking. Dr Waldman diagnosed me immediately and I was able to pick up the prescription drops in the store (they were about to close so he sent one of the girls working with him to drop off the prescription).
I went back twice to make sure my infection had cleared and he never charged me full price (I do not have vision insurance). Everyone who works there is so nice and knows me by name. I’d continue to go there but still with no vision insurance I need to find a doctor who takes CareCredit.

I think the Dr. Waldman is great! He has been doing this for years and he has modern equipment. I only come here for contact though, if you are looking for frames, I think the selection could use some work.

What a surprise! After being treated like Julia Roberts in «Pretty Woman» by the snooty-​patooty Cherry Creek opticians at my eye doctor’s office, I was very pleased with my experience here. I had a fixed budget (using leftover Flex plan cash) and they stayed as close as they could to that, and provided fantastic help in the process! And who knew Target sold Dolce & Gabbana?

Apparently during my visit to Target Optical I slipped into an alternate Universe from the other reviewers.
I only went in because the last prescription from my former eye doctor (in Arizona) had expired and the type of lenses I’d been wearing for the last twenty years were no longer available. Other than that, my prescription was fine and I was seeing great.
I got the impression from the very beginning (the doctor was late arriving) that this was going to be a waste of time and money, and I wasn’t proven wrong.
I felt like he was rushing through the exam. The prescription I was given was wildly different from my previous one, which had been working out perfectly well and was only about 18 months old. From the get go, NOTHING has been right.
The initial new prescription for my contacts (because the doctor insisted that I needed toric lenses) was horrible. Double images, ghosting, and I finally ended up going back to my old lenses simply because I couldn’t stand the new ones. It was so awful I scheduled a follow up visit and returned two weeks later.
I explained that neither lens (one for distance, one for reading) was working. I asked to go back to non-​toric since my previous lenses hadn’t been toric and they were perfect. He fitted me with two non-​toric lenses – albeit with the new strengths – and I turned around and went back even before I was even out of the store. The reading lens was passable, but the distance lens was a complete blur. I thought, «There is NO way I can drive with this!»
I left with one toric (for distance) and one non-​toric (for reading). The got me home, but they’re horrible. I haven’t been back because I got the impression that by simply returning I had become an annoyance to the doctor and his staff. Three weeks later I’ve thrown the new lenses out and have returned to my old lenses, hoping to get another six months use out of them. Hopefully during that time I will be able to locate a doctor who is willing to work with me to get this right (for however long it takes) instead of just pushing me out the door with the most expedient solution available.
$ 100 wasted. I just as well could have fed 5 twenties into a shredder and had the same result.

I’m so impressed with Target Optical! I have always gone to small, independent eye doctors; going to Target for eye care was waaaay outside of the box for me. I’m so glad I made the choice to do so. The staff and the doctor were thorough and patient with great attention to detail. I will definitely use their services again.

I have a lot of eyeball fails. No no I’m serious. I suck at all things optical-​related. It took me over a year to learn how to put in my contact lenses and it was a whole other year until I learned how to take them out correctly. And yet somehow– magically– I left Target Optical with perfect contacts and a huge smile.
The woman working here was SO nice. I came in here looking to return to my usual brand of contacts after my optometrist had switched me to an ungodly crappy brand. When I was unsure of exactly what my contacts are as far as sizing goes (what is a base cave???) she helped me to determine what it was. Not only that, she gave me a trial pair and told me to try those first, saying if I didn’t like them to bring the box I was buying back and we’d find something that worked better.
Wait. wait you don’t want me to buy some kind of weird Target brand eye goo? And… and you’re NOT trying to pressure me into buying so many add-​ons that I cut into my college funds? Well… alrighty then. I could get used to this.
HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend to anyone who just needs to buy contacts. Plus they now carry some great brands (Ray-​Bans! My love!)

Lots of other places will always try to get you to buy tons of add-on’s e.g. polycarbonate lens, photochromic lens, anti-​reflective coating, etc. My optometrist’s office gave me an evil look when I did not want the add-​ons, while they silently screamed, «Give us all your money, you jerk!» Target Optical did not bind my arm and force me to buy all the add-on’s I do not want. The frames are reasonably priced ($ 100-​$ 140), including lux brands like DKNY, Nicole Miller, and Isaac Mizrahi. They take pretty much all the vision plans and have coupons for those without insurance. They also have a 90 day guarantee, so you can always return the glasses if you are not happy. Target, I am always happy to give you my money! (I hope my husband is not reading this.)
