Vahan Cepkinian, MD

I went to the Dr. today and not only found the doctor to be informative and decisive, I found his staff to be friendly, efficient and helpful.
As a business owner on an HMO Insurance Plan, the customer service was excellent on all fronts.

Dr. Cepkinian, Scott Arno, and his technicians are all phenomenal. Dr. Cepkinian and Scott Arno are both extremely considerate and caring doctors who will give you the time and peace of mind you need. Dr. C recently put my arm back together after I snapped it in half. Wasn’t pretty, but I feel like I’m in extremely capable hands. It’s reassuring to have faith in your doctor.
With that said, their front desk is atrocious. I’ve had several appointments scheduled for certain times, only to have them call me saying that my appointment is at a different time. I had to wait a whole month for my physical therapy referral because the receptionist kept faxing the wrong phone number. She even took 2 ½ weeks to get the referral started after I left my appointment in the first place. I had to handle the referral myself and hold her hand, specifically asking what number she was contacting. She didn’t have the sense to just google the information. I had to do that myself after 4 weeks and get it handled. Took me 5 minutes.
It’s been an absolute pleasure to be repaired by Dr. Cepkinian and Scott Arno. Again, they’re phenomenal. I can’t recommend them high enough. I just wish they didn’t have a terrible front desk.
UPDATE 11/​24/​2015 —
Since initially posting my review a few months ago, the front staff have been excellent. There has been a very noticeable improvement on all fronts.

Someone — 1 or 2 office staff — are completely incompetent and trying to cover up their ‘ball dropping’ with lies that finally caught up with them. Ridiculous inability to perform basic paperwork. Too much effort on my part to fix — about 20 hours of my time. I am so done with them. I have no way of comparing this doctor with other orthopedist. He could be good — I don’t know. A bit on the cold side. He contradicted himself with what would ‘fix’ my medical issue and that was a disappointment.

The Dr. Is very professional, takes time to listen, gives prompt and efficient diagnosis, and is very friendly. His bedside manner is very impressive and makes you feel at ease.
The girls in the front were very efficient. Quick to respond, they knew what they were talking about and had a very positive/​easing attitude. Not to mention not one of them frowned. All three with beautiful smiles.
The X-​ray technicians were very quick, did what they had to do correctly and very extremely friendly.
Overall I’d say this was a wonderful experience. I’ll be back in a few months!

I don’t know if Dr. Cepkinian is a good doctor. But part of the patient’s experience is how the office handles you. As a new patient, I called his office and they had me on hold for 17 (!) minutes while intermittently, 4 different people spoke to me briefly and put me on hold again. All I did was tried to see if I could schedule an appointment. When they picked up the phone, they asked the same questions over again and placed me on hold again. Mind you, nobody sounded friendly.
In the final exchange, after I repeated again that my GP thinks I need an MRI to investigate the pain in my knee, the receptionist blurted: «We don’t do MRI’s here». I told her that she probably shouldn’t worry about it, as the way it works is the Doctor will decide if I need an MRI, and if I need, he’ll send me to a place where they do an MRI. She sensed the sarcasm and told me not to talk to her that way. We parted shortly, after I announced that I will write a one start review on all available websites to reflect on my experiences at the office. Here it is.

The Doctors were professional, but the front desk personnel were unprofessional and rude, specially Denisse or Deniffe, whatever her name. don’t know what customer service is. need to go to class and learn how to deal with people.

Love Dr. Cepkinian! I moved to Glendora and changed my other Doctors but have stayed with him. He is kind, compassionate and his staff is the best! Sometimes there is a wait to see him but when you do you get his full attention. I would highly recommend him.

After fighting months for another surgeon who performs «mini-​posterior» as opposed to Dr. Cepkinian’s anterior approach I received an enormous blessing in disguise.
As I told Dr. Cepkinian on my first visit, I don’t really care much about bedside manner and if I had to choose skill/​bedside manner I’ll take skill very time. With Dr. Cepkinian I got both. He performed a THR on me and I could not be happier with the outcome.
Two friends had a hip replacement and both were astonished at my rapid recovery compared to theirs. Bored after two days at home post-​op, I drove on the fourth day, incredible! Be cautious, like me you may find yourself overly confident after surgery with Dr. Cepkinian.
This is a very skilled surgeon and it’s obvious he’s also well liked by his colleagues, a big plus. His staff is also excellent. I never had to make any request twice, they are just great. I’m pleased to submit an outstanding review for Dr. Cepkinian.

I LOVE Dr. C (I even changed my insurance to stay on as his pt!). He’s always kind, compassionate and gentle and his staff is always warm and helpful! Most times he’s pretty on schedule (although he was a little late today)!!! Def my fav!

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Cepkinian for approx. 6yrs. He’s seen me for a few problems, had two surgeries by him (shoulder and knee) he took action when other Drs would not. He has a great, cool bedside manner in general, he listens and gives me answers which is very important to me, unlike some doctors who are quiet and shrug it off.
His staff though can be uptight cocky and sometimes not on the ball with insurance updates, but in the end nice… free candy makes up for it. I feel comfortable with the Dr and his team, overall, I’m happy with this practice :)))
Ohhhh and they validate your parking!!!

Worst service I have experienced in my life by the front desk HELP «NAMED LEAH» yes u heard me HELP! !!! dont understand why Dr. Hires rude and arrogant FRONT DESK STAFF who obviously dont want to be there or like what they r doing… yet when I let them know that I didn’t like the service they dont have any manners or know how to speak with patients and they shouldn’t be working in that inviorment.

I never saw Dr C, but his associate Dr Abdulian is FANTASTIC. Great bedside manner and even more important did a great job with my surgery (broken tibia, fibula & heel).
My scar has heeled nicely and even my physical therapist has said what a great job my surgeon did. I can’t thank him enough for the work he did and for dealing with me as a patient.

time, for my knee, Dr. Abdulian, who is VERY VERY KIND and GOOD. Dr. C seemed to be so overloaded when I was there, that I was upset and worried (for him (.
THiIS time I had wonderful experience and I also have to say that the girls
who work in the office and front desk, Leah, Denise and Hermine, as well
as Gilbert, the X-​Ray Technician, were just excellent-​they had the right
manner, were more than friendly (at 8 am!!), took me right away and were
very attentive. Quite pleased and wish I didn’t feel that aging will make
it necessary to keep going back…

Great doctor with a kind, caring bedside manner and a depth of knowledge. Went to Dr. Cepkinian to have my shoulder looked at and had a great, detailed evaluation with him. I ended up just going through PT for that shoulder but was back in Dr. Cepkinian’s care a year later when I tore my other shoulder. At that point, after his evaluation, he put me in the care of his associate Dr. Michael Abdulian. Dr. Abdulian performed surgery and aftercare for me, and Dr. Cepkinian was right there the whole time. All is well now, and I highly recommend this office and the fine doctors.

This review is actually towards the staff and not the doctor himself, since I had only had a chance to speak with the doctor for 10 minutes. That 10 minutes is all I received, before scheduling a surgery.
I ended up crying on my first visit, because the receptionist was very rude to me when I asked about the long wait time. My second encounter with the receptionist was on the phone, and this review is the result of that phone conversation.
The ladies at the reception, lack normal and proper manner to speak with the patients. They are not friendly, helpful, or show any sign of being sympathetic. They don’t sound knowledgeable about anything, and appear to be just paper pushers and unable to provide any answers that shows that they actually have any understanding of the environment that they work at.
They should understand this is just a job for them and they get paid and go home at the end of the day, but it’s a really big deal for the patient, and the patient needs to feel comfortable with their doctor and the staff, and not get burdened with unnecessary stress!
The staff will not take any additional steps for making this a comfortable environment for the patients to freely speak with the doctor or get a chance to have their concerns answered before the surgery.
I am supposed to have a surgery on my left knee in couple of weeks, and I have only received an authorization letter for a chest XRay. When I called to ask the doctor about it, she kept saying «What do you mean?» and when I asked about the recovery time, she said it would take her TWO DAYS to get me that answer from the doctor … If someone cannot process a simple question like that then they should not be working at a place that requires any people skills.
Overall, I feel like I would’ve received a better and more proper greeting at a Vet’s office than I experienced here.
I still hope I can get the chance to properly speak with the doctor and better understand what is the surgery I’m supposed to have, and what is the expected recovery and what the impact of it might be.
I wish the Dr. would provide their email address, so we can send our questions to them and bypass all the non-​sense and complication that the staff adds to this experience.

I love the staff here. They are very nice and helpful with all my insurance information and documents. The doctor is very thorough. He spent a lot of time with me doing some tests and explaining my condition.
I also have just started doing physical therapy here for about 2 weeks. So far so good. I never have to wait too long.

My experience with Dr. Cepkinian and his entire organization is and has been outstanding. I had to have my right hip replaced 2 and a half months ago. I just got lucky with my HMO insurance and found him. When I went in I had no idea there were several different procedures possible for my wasted hip. What I found in Dr. Cepkinian and his surgery assistant Anna was expertise in the state of the art «anterior» approach hip replacement. He is truly gifted as a surgeon and a caring individual. I am recovering beautifully and my prior hip pain is gone. You can’t go wrong choosing this doctor and his staff is on it!

I had emergency surgury, broken leg. Although there have been some issues, I guess he did OK. However, he NEVER actuallyseems to see patients, al least not me. Always his Physician Assistant. She is nice, but I would like to actually see the doctor when I make an appointment. I think his practice is based on volume, which I don’t really like.
I got very little feedback/​input on post op stuff to do. Again, I guess he is OK for emergency, but i wouldn’t actually see him on my own. I have transferred the post op to the Mayo Clinic. Travel is expensive, but the actual care is worth it! I actually see my doctor.

Okay so I have not been seen by the doctor yet so this is not a review on the doctor but rather a review on the wait time! Ridiculous, appointment at 930 and it’s 11:45am and I’m still waiting… Ridiculous I don’t know if they are racist against Latinos but this is horrible… This deserved a 1 star rating.
Review: The doctor was great to speak with he seemed very knowledgeable and was very easy to talk to. Thank goodness because if not I don’t know what I would do with this knee of mine. He takes a 5 star rating.

I’ll admit, I was a bit disappointed when I found out I’d have to wait several days until Dr. Cepkinian had an opening. I recently broke my foot and needed a specialist (ie. orthopedic surgeon or podiatrist) to take a look at the x-​rays and determine treatment options.
All of the bad feelings disappeared today when I went to his office. Dr. Cepkinian and his staff were kind and professional; I am feeling a lot better. The doctor gave me several options and talked about which type of cast would be best/​easiest for me to handle over the next 8 weeks. We went with the walking boot and I look like a cyberpunk now. Dr. Cepkinian was honest about how my insurance worked and told me they probably would not approve a bone stimulator right away (to help my 5^th metatarsal grow back together). I have a Jones aka dancer’s fracture. How appropriate since I broke the foot dancing. :/​
Anyway, this is a nice office is a good hospital. The doctor knows what’s up and if I do end up needing surgery I would be happy to have Dr. Cepkinian do the procedure. He passed my good doctor test today!
