We dealt with Alfonso and he was attentive to our requests. Very dependable and we were very happy with the work. They trimmed our pine tree beautifully and Arbutus Marina tree. Very clean workers left nothing behind.

I called this company based on the reviews. First, let me say that they have very poor communication among themselves and with customers. Took 3.5 weeks for them to find the estimate they had already given me. I kept calling to see if they had it and they kept saying yes, «we’ll look for it and give you a call back.» Never did I receive calls back from them, I needed rio insist calling back. Finally when the crew showed up an hour late, I spoke to them about how I wanted my pine tree thin out. I specifically said to give it shape like a triangle. An hour later after their arrival they started. The result was sad to see. My tree had no shape, barely anything on it. The Xmas look was nothing more than two trunks left. Because it was so late, they had to pick up the branches the next day. Never again will I used this company. They don’t take customers request or time into consideration.

Had this company come out and give me a quote. Nice guys — however his quote was over double the two other bids I had gotten. WOW double. I ask him why was he so high, and he sold me that the other companies were not insured and bonded. Well I am hear to tell you they are both insured and bonded. nice guys but super high quotes.

I used Golden State to remove two trees and six stumps from my property. The work crew were timely, efficient, and friendly. The owner threw in some of the stumps at no extra cost, and the overall job was affordable.
Also, the stump grinder was amazing to behold.

We were new to the area and my neighbor had given me the phone number of his tree guy. He suggested I get estimates then call his guy (guaranteed me his guy would be the cheapest) I Unilocaled tree services and found Golden State Tree Services. Alonzo came by and pointed out some of the branches were starting to dry out of my neighbors oak tree (that had been recently trimmed) because of over trimming. I received a quote to trim an oak tree, remove 2 palm trees plus clean up an elm tree. I felt he was fair on the price plus seemed knowledgeable and had been in business for many years. I felt comfortable enough to not have to get other estimates and was satisfied with his crew and the job
that was performed. I will definitely be using

Great work and reasonably priced. This was the first time a tree service company took the time to clean my pool after trimming my trees. The workers even used the same spike marks on my palm trees to not create more spike marks when climbing the trees.

I had GSTS a week ago, totally happy with their service. Alonso ran late on this estimate appt., but his professionalism and friendliness won us over. And of course his estimate was the lowest. We were a bit nervous because his crew came like an hour late on the service date and only 3 guys ILO 6 as he said. However, they were working extremely hard and fast. Within a couple of hours, the whole tree was cut down. Stump was grinded. Whole back yard was cleaned up well. Highly recommended to my families and friends.

NOTE: This company does not take credit cards! I didn’t realize that when I booked them, if I had asked or they had told me, I may have booked someone else. It was a lot out of pocket when I wasn’t anticipating it.
I found them on Unilocal and made the call. Alonso went to look at the trees the next day and called me with a bid. It was as high as any other place I called but he knocked off a little, was ready to go, sent me a copy of their insurance, and promised to clean everything up. Which they did. They took out a tall pine and pruned two other trees in about three hours. They were mindful and clearly skilled. For that, the quick service, and the great communication Alonso gives, they get five stars. I have had several trees cut down over the last five years at my Los Angeles property, this group was more expensive than my LA crew who do just as good of work. All of that said, I’d hire them again.

SOLID WORK! GREAT PRICE! NICE PEOPLE.
Don’t look any further — this is your team. I get three or more estimates on bigger jobs and Golden State Tree Service gave me a competitive price.
They removed a really huge Yucca tree (6′ in diameter?) on the border between my yard and my neighbor’s yard. This Yucca tree had its branches in the power lines next to a small pool — they also removed a 30′? palm tree — also in a tricky spot.
They did a great job and I can highly recommend them. It happened to be a brutally hot day and they pushed through the heat. I asked them to make sure to leave the neighbors yard as they found it… and they did!
I have a small pool and I would have preferred appreciated a tarp over the whole pool but they covered half — making for some cleaning on my part — perhaps I’m hyper-​critical.
Just be explicit with your expectations and put it on the estimate. I would most certainly hire them again and endorse them when friends need their services.

I had a 40 ft. palm tree that I wanted to remove from my back yard. I called Alonso and he was very professional. He came over the next morning, gave me a very fair quote and his guys were there that evening.
They had to make a second trip to pick up the leftover waste, but he did not charge more.
Not only did he give me an amazing deal for two trees, he was very friendly and personable.
A Palm tree branch accidentally landed on one of my plum tree branches, but it was obviously an accident. Can’t blame that on them. Alonso’s guys made a clean cut on the damaged branch and Alonso put some special glue so that the tree does not get infected/​damaged. Thanks for the hard work Alonso!

We are first time homeowners and are finding ourselves faced with all of those things you never think about as a renter — tree trimming being one of them. We had a huge oak and a huge elm tree in our yard that were just encroaching and getting sap and debris everywhere. The branches were growing over our roof and we were afraid wed end up with some roof damage if those branches fell. Last time rained all of those dead leaves clogged the downspouts and we ended up with clogged gutters.
So we had to have them trimmed. Luckily we found Golden State and Alonso here on Unilocal.We called on Wednesday afternoon for an estimate, he was here a short time later with a written estimate in minutes. Two days later his crew showed up an hour early to accommodate our schedule and the finished in less than two hours — trimmed, cleaned and no damage. These guys are awesome. I’ll definitely be using them again and recommending them to friends and neighbors.

Great company. Actually excellent work. Was difficult to get ahold of Alonzo but turned out I’m really glad I did. Don’t think I would ever go with another tree trimming company. I had a large job and they actually called me to do the job prior to the scheduled day and I said fine, I wanted to get it done also. Alonzo extremely knowledgeable and told me the trees to keep for various reasons. He also helped with my request for expanding the job more with a limited budget. He let me know what he could do for the budget and threw in a bit more. Don’t even get other estimates, he will be better than all the other companies out there…

This is the company to go with. EXCELLENT! The price was better than other bids and they did a few extras that were very much appreciated. Cleanup was awesome. It was a rather large job, and 5 – 6 guys came. Can’t say enough about this company. I will ALWAYS go with them in the future when needed. Alonzo knew sooo much about my trees and what I should do or not do. This company has been around for more than 20 years and it shows.
Note about callbacks — be patient. I read the other reviews and was determined to use this company. It took several phone calls prior to reach Alonzo «live» and sometimes he was late on his appointments. This is due to a super busy guy managing several jobs. It is well worth it, just keep calling until you reach him. LOVE this company!

Alonzo and his crew were AMAZING! We hired Golden State Tree Service to remove a dead tree, clean-​up a bird of paradise and palm tree. The work they did was incredible. Not only was the work done beautifully, the crew left each area extremely clean.
We were thinking that we needed another large redwood tree removed because we believed it was dying, however, Alonzo assured us that it was healthy and just needed some extra water. This is the type of honest company you want to hire!
Based on the amount of time they spent on the job, the price was very reasonable. I would definitely use Golden State Tree Service again. Thanks Alonzo!!!

I’ve just worked too hard to even have these guys give me an estimate.
Called and left a voicemail 1÷22÷15 No return call
Called and tried to leave a voicemail but there was a message saying that the voicemail box was full 1÷26÷15
Giving the benefit of the doubt that maybe my call was missed I tried again later that day and spoke to someone. Let them know that my very large Calif sycamore was in need of substantial trimming. Gave him the address and he said they were going to be in my City that day and would call me or leave an estimate.
Nothing
Called again yesterday. The person I reached said that his brother was going to be near my house and that he would call or leave an estimate.
Nothing
Like I said. Just working too hard to give someone business.

In searching for a reputable tree trimming company I called 4 other places. This company responded back to me in a timely fashion and offered a reasonable quote to clean a Queen Palm tree that had been dropping small fruits & looked awful for years. A crew came a few days later. They worked quickly and efficiently. I was impressed at the care they took not damaging my plants under the palm tree and how they cleaned up after themselves. They left my tree & condo looking beautiful.
Will hire back for other trees soon.
The only minus is they don’t take credit cards.

This company was recommended by some friends that had their trees trimmed in Monrovia. I called Alonso and he came out for an estimate. He looked over the tree and gave me an estimate. Our pine tree was dying and he explained that the outer bark was peeling and the tree wasn’t coming back.
After much back and forth with our local city councilman, it was determined that I was issued a permit to get the tree removed myself. (FYI: if you live in the city of LA, the department of Urban Forestry will only trim your trees every NINE (9) years.)
Alonso and crew arrived on time and initially a crew of four men took down our pine in less than one hour. As they cut down branches, two of the guys fed the branches into a chipper and cleaned the area around, even in the streets.
I decided to also have the stumped grinded down. It costs a little more but worth it because I didn’t want to attract termites or other invasive creatures later on. This took longer than the actual tree removal but the crew was professional and clean.
I was shopping around for quotes from other tree removal services but this company actually showed me their license and insurance. And safety is a number one priority for me, the public and their workers.
