After Travelling the world for competitions, training and teaching, Prof. Renato Migliaccio (owner and Head Instructor) decided open his first school in America in the city of Glendora and serve the communities of Glendora, La Verne, Claremont, San Dimas, Walnut, Azusa, Covina and West Covina.

Many people come to learn at Sampa BJJ and we have many visitors from all over the world such as Germany, Italy, England, Belgium, Canada, Brazil, Mexico and other states in USA.

Business Owner

Professor Renato Migliaccio, born in Sao Paulo, Brazil is a 3rd degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Master Ryan Gracie and a 3rd degree Black Belt in Judo.

Graduated at the top university in Brazil, USP (University of Sao Paulo) where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sports Science.

Started training martial arts at a very young age. Judo was the first martial art he practiced when at 8 years old. Before and after receiving his black belt in Jiu Jitsu, Prof. earned titles at the National, Pan American, European and World Championships! he was a member of the Brazilian National Judo college team and Greco-​Roman Wrestling team. He competed in many international events in Judo and Wrestling and the Abu Dhabi No Gi worlds and has a MMA record of 6 – 1 as a professional.

Renato has been teaching since the age of fifteen and also has many Jiu Jitsu students spread throughout the World in Europe, America, Canada and Mexico and is a founder of International BJJ association.

This is an awesome Mixed Martial arts facility. The instructors and the atmosphere is excellent for anyone interested in learning some mixed martial arts or just look to stay in shape. I highly recommend it for the whole family.

I recently began classes here and it’s been great! The other students are friendly and willing to help. As with most academy’s, new people come in pretty often, so you get a lot of variety from class to class.
My only complaint is the lack of open mat availability. No one in the area seems to offer it and I feel it’s pretty important.
Professor Nathan is the adult BJJ instructor, he is very helpful, friendly, and honorable.
The coaches for my daughters classes were also friendly, energetic and seemed to enjoy their job every day.
Bobby at the front desk is always willing to help and tells it like it is.
Renato Migliaccio is super down to earth and a great guy. Humble, energetic and a great role model!

I first came to this place by force and felt strongly that Martial Arts was something that was not for me. I took my first martial arts class ever at the age of 19 and it changed everything for me. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is life changing especially in an environment like the one at Sampa BJJ. Many Academies that teach Jiu Jitsu may not have the same drive or desire that is at Sampa. You can tell that Sampa BJJ is a place that cares about each and every person who walks in their doors. You get the family feel right off the bat which is comforting considering you will be training in a close contact and personal martial art. You can tell they really care about their students and sincerely want to make them better. Aside from the small perks that add up, the training is amazing! Great instructors and black belts who are from Brazil, as well as a great overall staff. What you learn is authentic, can save your life, and you have so much fun doing it. This place is for EVERYONE, if you feel it is not for you or your child I dare you to try a class out for free and see first hand what it’s about.

We’ve only had a positive experience at Sampa. Coach Ruel is terrific with the kids. He shows lots of patience. My son gassed out his first practice. Since then, his strength, cardio, and confidence have all improved a lot. He loves it.

Started boot camp July 1st. They had a six week program for $ 97.00. This included Boot camp and Kickboxing along with a meal plan. After the program, I lost 20 lbs. Now I am continuing going and keeping the weight off. Love coming to workout. The staff is awesome. Very friendly and helpful. Way better than going to the gym. Woot Woot.

My son has been going to Sampa since 2010 when he was three years old. I was skeptical at first because my brother forced me to enroll my son, and my brother doesn’t always make the best decisions. Turns out I was wrong when it comes to Sampa. This place is amazing and now I have two of my children enrolled. Super Friendly staff and coaches teach children manners, self respect and to keep a positive attitude, along with excellent jiu jitsu skills. The owner and his wife are so kind every time we meet. They always have specials going on and I’ve taken kick boxing and self defense for women class. I have learned a great deal. Every penny is worth it. Us humans never hesitate when we spend money on the lamest things in life (cheez it, Doritos, oreos. need I say more?) But we scrimp when it comes to paying for our children to learn life saving skills and moves. Enroll your children and yourself today, you will not regret it. This is more than just a BJJ/​Muay Thai/​Fitness school, it’s a family. I have been a part of Sampa for approximately three months and it has been such a blessing. Professor Renato, Nathan, and Evandro are not here to just teach as their job, they WANT to be here and love all of their students and rather than a huge gym with tons of people where your name and face is not known, they make sure they acknowledge each student and are truly interested in their lives. If you are looking for an exceptional school who cares about you as a human and your training, and not just your money, then look no where else! this is definitely the place you want to be. I just moved to CA and heard Sampa was a great school. All I can say is I’m glad I took the chance. As an older guy who is very new to BJJ, I really appreciate the attentiveness, encouragement, and patience of Professor Nathan and Professor Renato. You can tell they love what they do. It’s the little things like knowing their student’s names, or sending encouraging emails, or the open ego-​free environment they create in class that make this such a great school. I would highly recommend you give them a try!

The positive…
Ok, so my teen took their jiu-​jitsu class for about 8 months or so. It is difficult for me to get him into any type of activity so the fact that he enjoyed the class and loved Professor Renato was awesome. I agree Professor Renato is amazing and would recommend him.
The negative (for us, maybe not for you)…
After a few months, Professor Renato stopped teaching the teens classed to focus on the younger children. He had a few of his older students take over our class and even though they are skilled, my son and I were not ok with the change. We felt that Professor Renato should focus on the older children since they would benefit most from his experience and let the older students teach the young ones. Obviously, that was not the case and so we made a decision to leave, unfortunately.
One more thing that was annoying to me was when I first called. They will NOT give you pricing information over the phone. They will «ask» you (as you if you really have a choice) to take their classes first then they will give you pricing information. I tried to explain that if my son fell in love with the class and then I found out I couldnt afford to keep him in the class, I would be highly upset. I am a single mom and on a limited budget. But, that didnt really seem to matter. In the end we went to the classes, I explained to my son that I might not be able to afford and he understood. In the end, as I said before, he took classes for about 8 months.
Also, just an FYI… they give a slight military discount.

Tried to call and find out what cost would be for a child’s class. However its like you’re calling a telemarking company trying to scam you. The first person that answered the phone didn’t event let me talk, just said they needed to ask me several questions, my first name, last name and I didn’t wait to hear more. Then I just said I would like to know schedule and price. Then they said an instructor would call me back.
Finally someone calls me back and they said a class is available on Saturdays, but that the child would have to try one class to find out the price! I was already seeing how they wouldn’t divulge the price. So I said well I don’t want to waste my time if we can’t afford the class, could they tell me how much it costs? NOPE! You have to come to the class so the instructor can tell you the price. And they can’t call you with the price is because the instructor is paid by appointment for his time.
Anyway just a bunch of bologna and seem like they are trying to hide the cost or something. Felt like I was talking to a pyramid scheme company instead of a fitness company. Disappointing, because their services would have been good. So bizarre this is how they operate.

I came for the Fat Burning Boot Camp and it’s only my first week but I feel amazing! Before I even started the Bootcamp we came in and Renato, our instructor measured out flexibility, endurance, and our body fat ratio. I’m not going to lie after seeing how out of shape I was, I became discouraged, but he assures me that with proper nutrition and his class we can tackle the problem together. Then he handed me a meal plan for the entire week (which I thought was super cool, I mean what place do you go to that helps you not only when your in class but also out doing what you need to do) he also did express that I will be feeling soar my first week but if I feel like I need to take an“rest day” then do so. So come Monday morning (5:30 AM Class) I felt super sluggish but after the class, Wow! Did I feel amazing! I love the way he teaches us because not only motivates us to push harder but also lets us know how our bodies will be changing now that we are starting to exercise. I can honestly say I already know in going to be a regular here. I will keep you guys informed as the weeks go by!

I joined Sampa on January 13, 2014 for the Fat Furnace Program. I was lucky enough to win a 2 week trial and I have to say I will never leave Sampa! Prof. Renato is an amazing person who cares about you and your health. This program has transformed my life. Within 3 ½ months I have lost over 15 lbs and have gained lots of muscle mass and already tone and definition in my arms and legs. The classes for Circuit Training and Cardio Kick boxing really do the job! The staff there is wonderful and always accomodating. My son who is 9 has started the Jitjitsu and loves it! He has met many friends and has gained a ton of confidence. The BJJ classes also are teaching he him how to be a better listener and respect. I am not one to write reviews on Unilocal since I have no time with 4 kids and a full time job, but I felt the need to make sure that everyone knew how great Sampa is! They have me for life! I have had friends asking (along with strangers) how I have so much muscle definition in my arms… I owe it all to Sampa! The workouts are hard but do-​able. Its nothing you haven’t done before. What is great too is he also provides you with a meal plan that helps lose the weight you want and begin a healthy life style living. It is not a diet he gives you, it is a way of life. I have to say having 4 kids (ranging from 19yrs — 18mo) and having a full time job, I had no energy by the end of the night. Since I started the class my energy is way up and my endurance as well! If you ever need to get in shape and are timid, come join Sampa you will not regret it! He will give you the body you have always wanted! I am on my way to the 6 pack I have never had! :)

Professor Renato is amazing!
Not only he is a world champion black belt athlete, but he is also an amazing teacher and he has been teaching since he was a teenager!!!
If you would like to learn a martial art, but feel threatened by a super competitive atmosphere sometimes, here is the place for you and your children, because Professor Renato is also a specialist in teaching children how to develop self respect, confidence and discipline through Martial Arts using a friendly and family oriented environment.
Also, here you can learn and practice several different styles of Martial Arts, like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Kickboxing and more.

My son has been attending there since late summer and he absolutely loves this place. Professor Renato is awesome and he is dedicated to his school, students and staff. The classes instill respect, patience and good health. It is great to see a school that strives to create community which I believe is how respect is maintained.
The Professor also stays updated in what is happening in the world of Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu through participating in competitions and seminars. He is also very communicative with his students through regular emails and postings on Facebook. I highly recommend Professor Renato and Coach Martin as well. I truly feel this is a hidden gem in the San Gabriel Valley.
