Pep Boys Auto Service & Tire

Dishonest. I went in for an oil change. They said i needed $ 1200 worth of work, some was stuff i knew i needed and others were bogus. They said i needed new lower ball joints. I told the, they had just been replaced less than 8 months ago (ball joints don’t go bad that quickly). He was trying to convince me that my serpentine belts would cause damage to my engine if they broke. Not true — your car will not work, its not dangerous to you or your car. Both my brothers are mechanics but live out of state. They said I needed a new battery because I had corrosion, I thanked them but said I only wanted an oil change! That is all!!! I might have listened to them for the other stuff had they not thrown the bogus ball joints and the crap about the serpentine belts at me. Oh and i needed a tuneup which i knew and I am quite capable of doing it myself. The tuneup was valid — and I knew about the serpentine belts needing to be replaced. I thanked them and told them that i just needed the oil changed.
When I picked the car up they had a list of other ‘recommended’ repairs. shocks, struts, breaks, suspension… basically rebuilding the car… if you want to be believable then don’t try to over sell…
I drive less than 10K miles a year — They totally turned me off when they said i needed new ball joints.

I regret going to the pep boys in Willow Grove instead of the one in Glenside. The Glenside Pep Boys fixed the mistakes of Willow Grove right away. Everybody was nice friendly and professional

I have to change my previous review. I went for an oil change and they told me I needed new brake pads the next time I had an oil change. So I dutifully showed up again the next oil change and had them check the brakes. They said, oh, now you need calipers and this and that for the brakes and it will be $ 1500. My car isn’t even worth that. I was skeptical, so I took it to my usual guy in South Philly and he said no, it just needed pads and would be $ 200. I don’t know if pep boys was actually trying to commit fraud or they just don’t know what they’re doing. Either way, I’ll NEVER go back there.

I’ve been to 4 different Pep Boys locations in and around Philly, but the Glenside location seems to be my favorite. They are always so damn nice, easy-​going and attentive – with nunna that patronizing condescension that so many of us ladies often experience when checkin’ up on our auto parts.
My most recent visit was this past Good Friday. I had the extreme pleasure of hitting a mega stank pothole that bent my tire rim. The shop was pretty busy when I popped in – and I always seem to pop in without an appointment – and they let me know it might be awhile, but they squeezed me in. This gave me the perfect opportunity to stroll into some nearby places I usually just drive by – which was awesome! (If you’re ever here waiting, just walk down the street and sidle up to the bar in the Blue Comet. You will be fed and your thirst will be quenched in the loveliest of environs! The consignment shops along the way are also fun to peruse.)
At any rate, after about an hour my car was ready to the tune of $ 30, which was less than I anticipated!

Very satisfied. Promptly took care of my truck and explained my options without pressure or hype. I would not hesitate to tell others about the service here and plan to return for scheduled (and unscheduled) work.

told me my car needs a special kind of oil for an oil change and it would cost $ 70 and they couldn’t «legally» use cheaper oil. I’ve owned this car for 10 years and regularly change with normal oils– I’ve even had it changed at the Pep Boys before. And it’s just a Pontiac, not some F1 race car.
Crooks. Avoid at all costs.

Just got new tires here, very profession and quick service, Mike the store manager was very helpful and got me a goor tire at a good price I am very happy with the quality of service I got here today. I will be back for more service. One happy customer

I was pressured into buying one of Pep Boys’ overpriced packs of headlamps last night by an employee at another location. Did a little research and realized that I could get them much cheaper at Advance Auto Parts up the street from this location. So this afternoon I figured I could quickly stop in and return them without any hassle. WRONG. Michael, one of the managers, told me that according to my receipt, they were already returned. So that’s nice, hinting that a customer is a scammer and a liar. Makes me feel welcome there…
I politely waited for him while he called IT and after literally 20 minutes, he finally said he could do the return. He made me give out my phone number and take down my driver’s license info and then gave me the cash in MOSTLY ONE DOLLAR BILLS. I’m gladly sticking with Advance Auto Parts from now on. There’s one just up the Easton Rd near Jenkintown Ave if you live around this store. Pep Boys can SUCK IT!
