Company founder, Curt Hamilton, has over 30 years experience working with major corporations and top creative agencies. Founded Design Design in 1984. Graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Commercial Graphic Design, receiving the honor as the outstanding graduating student of the department. Worked as a designer/​illustrator for AT&T as an art director at Robert Brandt Advertising. Clients include Siemens, Motorola, Walt Disney World, Grainger, Bank of America, and agencies such as Cramer-​Krasselt, Legacy Partners and Dixon-​James Communications.

History

Established in 1984.

In the winter of 1980, I left the world of the paycheck kingdom and, with a partner and against parental advice, rented a small office on Main Street in Evanston and named my new business Stripes Visual Communications. I took my life savings, plopped down a month’s rent, bought a couple of drawing boards and a stat camera, and opened our doors in January of 1981 with (almost) no clients. Alas, after about a year, we still had (almost) no clients. Things changed shortly after that (whew!), and things took off. This small taste of success led to renaming the firm Design Design Communications in 1984. I moved into a warehouse on Chicago’s near west side (691 N. Sangamon St.) because it was near a photographer I knew and I had gone to a punk rock party there before. Very analytical choice. From there to Des Plaines Street, 1333 North Kingsbury (both Chicago), to our current North Shore location surrounded by Glenview, Northbrook, Winnetka, Wilmette… and Chicago, of course.

I have over 30 years experience working with major corporations and top creative agencies. I founded Design Design in 1984. Graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Degree in Commercial Graphic Design, receiving the honor as the outstanding graduating student of the design department. Worked as a designer/​illustrator for AT&T as an art director at Robert Brandt Advertising. I believe my enthusiastic approach to all my projects, large or small, and all my clients, big business or small business, makes a difference. I hope so. There have always been great clients, great employees, tough deadlines and hard work. But there has also been fun and and passion. So, here I am, almost 30 years later — — depending on how you count the years — — still doing what I was meant to do with enthusiasm and pride. Thank you past and future clients!
