Description

Specialties

GCCNS is a developmental, nonsectarian, not-for-profit preschool serving all families. Our purpose is to provide a nurturing environment where each child is encouraged in all areas of growth (cognitive, social, emotional, physical). The development of learning skills is stimulated through guided, creative play and group interactions.

History

Established in 1947.

The Glenview Community Church Nursery School was established in 1947 with 18 children and was funded with a grant from the Chicago Theological Seminary. The nursery school was housed in the original church on Dewes Street. During the early years of growth, the National College of Education (now National-Louis University) cooperated with the church and seminary in setting up the educational standards and providing student teachers. The seminary did a pilot study in relating Christian education to the principles of early childhood education. The eighteen students attended school for five mornings a week and also on Sunday mornings.

Presently we have approximately 120 children enrolled in a variety of classes, ranging from 2 year old Parent/Tot students in one-hour classes to 4 year old «seniors» in 5 day classes. GCCNS is licensed by the State of Illinois and accredited by NAEYC.
