History
Established in 2008.
Brothers Vincenzo, Arnaldo and Joseph opened the Berwyn Tavern in 1966 on the corner of 16th Street and Wesley, in Berwyn. It later became known as Salerno’s Restaurant on 16th Street. The brothers began to dabble with their pizza recipe from back home and served their thick-crust pizza to the clientele. It was the customers who encouraged the Salerno brothers to expand their business and focus on serving homemade Southern-Italian favorites. While their wives prepared homemade pastas, sauces, meatballs and sausage, the pizza became famous.
Later, the family business expanded with restaurants opening in St. Charles, Chicago, Bolingbrook, and Oak Park.
The Salerno family tradition continues to thrive, as the second generation follows in the footsteps’ of their fathers opening new locations in Glenview, Hodgkins, Lisle, Vernon Hills and Gilbert, Arizona.
Meet the Business Owner
Michael S.
Business Owner
Following in the footsteps of his father, Joseph, Michael Salerno partnered with his sister, Julie and uncle, Peter Lia to expand the 40 plus year family tradition into the northern suburbs of Chicago. After working side-by-side with his family for over 20 years, Michael wanted to provide the North Shore with a family-oriented environment with a touch of city flair where customers could enjoy freshly made «Famous Salerno’s Pizza Since 1966,» various dishes and desserts that his family is famous for serving to their customers.
Michael Salerno’s Pizzeria opened in August of 2008. Michael carries on the second generation delivering his family tradition of delicious homemade Southern-Italian favorites to the North Shore. Alongside his family, he eagerly greets new and returning satisfied customers.
«Thanks to all our customers, our family tradition continues. We appreciate and are grateful for your business and keeping us on the map.»
Buon appetito,
Michael, Julie and Peter
