MJ Watch Service

I have a mechanical Tissot watch which would «catch» 2 minutes a day. I took the watch to MJ Watch Service and they «fixed» it in a matter of minutes. Really fast and reliable service.

Had a horrible experience. Brought in my watch for a new battery and then brought it back again because it stopped. They said nothing was wrong. Next thing I know they didn’t seal the watch which I didn’t know until I saw steam in the corner. Its now at Tag Heuer to be fixed correctly. Their mistake cost me $ 265, they are not even willing to split the cost with me. I would never go back and don’t recommend it if you have an expensive watch. Go to a more reputable company like Razney Jewelers, you may pay a little more but you will never have any problems.

MJ does all their work in-​house right there behind the counter. Looks like a pretty busy place. I took in an old Seiko programmable watch that had one button that didn’t work. I had already tried to free it up with some lubricant. They quoted me $ 25 but no charge if they couldn’t do it. At pickup time the button was fixed and I happily paid the $ 25 fee. At the same time, I brought in a couple of old gold watches I no longer needed. One was not repairable so I sold it to them for the gold value and I received a very fair amount. The other they didn’t want to buy but gave me a suggested range to ask on eBay. They are very professional and I would trust them again with watch repairs.

These guys really know their watches — They are careful and great to deal with. Everything from a battery swap to a full overhaul of a pocket watch. All were done with care and produced great results — I am a regular there. They sell classic watches there too — yet I have not purchased one as yet

What a revelation! In 7 minutes and for less than $ 40 I had a new battery in one watch and a genuine lizard band on another. It wasn’t 10 o’clock yet and when I left there were 6 people behind me. A rightly popular place but no problem — there’s parking in this little mall. It’s now been two weeks and no surprises like you sometimes get with other repairs.

So far so good. I was able to just stop by, and wait while they replaced my old battery on my watch. All for a very reasonable price. Thanks,

Can’t believe what I just experienced! I brought my Seiko Diver’s Watch in to MJ’s for repair. When I dropped it off, the second hand worked and the watch sounded tight, i.e. nothing loose in it– I just could not change the hour hand.
I was told I’d get a call the next day about the estimate for a repair. A call never came.
So the next day, I called them and was told that the watch could not be fixed, a ball bearing was broken and their suppliers could not get the parts to fix it.
I went to pick it up and when Serg handed it to me I saw that the second hand no longer worked and when I moved the watch, it sounded like all the parts were loose inside. Serg went and got an older man (w/​an accent) and when I told him that I didn’t drop it off like this, he immediately got defensive and said, «We didn’t take any parts out. None of the parts would fit in any of the watches here.» When questioned further about returning the watch to me in the state with which I brought it in, he stated emphatically, «The watch never worked. It’ll never work again.»
I feel they destroyed my property and lied to me about it.
CAUTION: BEWARE when dropping a watch off for a free estimate.

These are the only people I trust! They know what they are doing and they do a great job. I have been going to then for years. They are trustworthy and meticulous!

My Ebel battery was needing to be replaced annually, and the cost was getting ridiculous. After researching watch repair on Unilocal,I decided to try MJ Watch Service and was glad I did. I brought my watch in and they quoted me the repair price for a new battery. I left the watch there, assuming I would be picking it up in a week with a new battery. Apparently something was broken on my watch, and it was causing the battery to die more quickly than it should. They kept it for a while longer and completed the entire repair, and only charged me for the battery. It’s been over a year now, and the watch is running fine. I was very happy here, and I won’t be taking my watches anywhere else.

Found this place from Unilocal.Walked in with two watches with dead batteries and walked out with working watches with only $ 20 less in my wallet. It took them about 6 minutes to do so and extremely friendly.
I highly recommend this place and it will be my go to place for any watch related work.

The folks at MJ’s were some of the nicest people I’ve had to deal with for any type of service in the past. I was in a rush and came in for a battery replacement. I was told it could be done in about 10 minutes but upon noticing my expensive watch the employee suggested that I get a sealed battery replacement. Not knowing what that was, the guy took his time explaining it to me and how important it is for expensive watches with intricate parts as it prevents corrosion and rust on the inside (which could be costly). That said, I was not pressured into getting a service I didn’t want. I also inquired about a refinish service and they recommended I wait before getting my watch refinished as it is still in pretty good condition. I got my watch a few days later and am very pleased. I will definitely be back with future watch needs. Thanks guys!

They did the job on time and a week later I needed the pin replaced they did it for free without even asking what happened.

I have the Calvin Klein Hypnotic watch the strap had come of which had come off. MJ watches took just $ 15 and fixed it right back. I went to a jewelry store earlier they estimated the cost to be $ 50. They took just a day to fix it. Its a good non pricey store which gets the job done.

So I’ve settled at three stars here on the service I recieved after thinking this over a lot.
I have a Tag Heuer 6000 series watch that was long long overdue for an overhaul as it would lose about a minute/​day and the bracelet and bezel were in desparate need of a polish so I started shopping around to have the work done. First thing I looked into was to send back to tag which would’ve been about 500 – 550 plus any replacement parts it may have needed. I shopped around a few high end shops in the Chicagoland area and they were all in the same 500’ish ballpark for overhaul/​polish which was a bit more than I wanted to spend as I had a feeling this would need parts which would’ve put me out of the budget that I wanted to spend.
I had been to MJ’s a few times before for battery replacement and band adjustment on some much less expensive watches and had great service, but was hesitant with a high end watch and I didn’t see any reviews for MJ’s for higher end watch service anywhere on the net. I’ve seen they carry some used higher end watches in their case there (Rolex, Breitling, Tag, etc) so I stopped by to ask for an estimate about a month and a half ago.
They told me I’d need to leave the watch for a couple days and they would have one of their techs look it over and give me a full estimate to perform an overhaul and polish on the watch and would call me in a couple days.
I called back a week later and they quoted me 230 for the overhaul and 100 for the polish over the phone which included a 1 year warranty on the work. This sounded great to me so I gave them the OK to go ahead with the work and they told me 1 – 2 weeks to complete the work.
Called a week later to see how things were going and they told me it would be ready in another week. Stop by the shop on my way home from work after two weeks and the watch is ready. Initial thoughts looking at the watch were that it LOOKED great. The job they did on the buffing and polishing was superb, especially considering this is a stainless watch with 18k inserts which is the most difficult type of watch to polish as there is soft metal (gold) and very hard metal (stainless). After saying I was satisfied Alex (owner) then looked towards the cash register and said «ok that will be $ 499». After confirming he just said $ 499 I asked what parts needed to be replaced and he said nothing, just standard rebuild and polish, $ 500 is our rate. Going back and forth I mentioned I was quoted $ 330, $ 230 for overhaul and $ 100 for polish. Then he said «oh yes, $ 330 for rebuild and $ 100 for polish so you owe $ 450». After some bickering back and forth and him changing the price back to $ 499 again he then went back into his office and «looked over some paperwork» and said oh my mistake, they did quote you $ 330, so that will be $ 350. After fighting for these last few dollars he came down to $ 339 and I was fine at this point, whatever I’ll just pay it. So I paid $ 339 which I felt was still a fair price as the watch looked great and was still considerablly cheaper than anywhere else I had been quoted.
Three days later the watch stops ticking. GREAT! Fiddle with the watch a little bit and shake it up and starts ticking again for an hour then stops. Go back and forth like this for a day and take it back. Show him it stopped ticking and he assures me they will take care of it under warranty and to come back in a week. Come back a week later and they show me the watch taken apart and said we ordered this and that from tag, you’re self-​winding mechanism wasn’t charging the circuit correctly, parts will be here next week. So wait another week, go to pick up the watch yesterday, looks great and is ticking fine. They waived the cost of the replacement parts for my trouble, which if you know anything about these automatic Swiss watches the little parts are NOT cheap.
Overall I’d rate my experience average, in the end Alex took care of me for the hassle and trouble by waiving the cost of the parts, He lost money on this rebuild I’m sure between whatever he paid his tech to take apart the watch twice and the cost of the replacement parts.
If you get an estimate of work, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT IN WRITING. That would be my advice. I would probably go here again as his pricing is reasonable and he did make it right in the end, just keep in mind to get all estimates in writing.

About a year ago I made the mistake of taking a watch to another local jewelry store to have the battery changed. After waiting two weeks to have it done, they ended up charging way more than promised. The story goes on: my watch wasn’t properly sealed, causing moisture to form behind the crystal and the in workings to stop. Ouch! In need of help I took my watch to MJ. Not only were they able to complete the repairs in the time quoted, but the tore through the entire watch an returned it to me in basically new condition.
Fast forward a year and I just picked up a different watch for batter replacement and sealing. The work was finished faster than promised and for a reasonable rate. I won’t be taking my watches anywhere else…

My Porsche watch, vintage about 1975, had a broken stem that no other major watch service in Philadelphia or New York could repair or find a replacement for. On a visit to Chicago, I left my watch with MJ Watch Service understanding that repair was unlikely. MJ made a (six week) search effort, found an excellent replacement stem (and crown), overhauled the watch, Fed Ex”d it to me (appropriately packaged to disguise contents) in Philadelphia, and I have a perfect vintage watch.

I live in Indiana and Googled watch repair. I found MJ Watch Service and checked Unilocal and saw all the great reviews.
Here is my situation: I have my father’s Noblia watch that while not very expensive has a lot of sentimental value. It is gold-​plated and is very worn and has not run in years. I wanted to get it refurbished to a like-​new condition to present to my father.
I sent 6 – 8 high resolution photos of the watch to MJ asking if they could «refurbish» the watch and whether the band (which is very worn) was salvageable. They sent me an e-​mail response saying they should be able to refurbish it and I could mail it to them for a free estimate.
Ultimately they responded saying that the band could not be re-​plated and they offered to find a band that might match. Well, I Googled re-​plating and there are a number of companies that offer this service. They then responded saying that the re-​plating would not be of good quality and would not last. I said I had a specific place I wanted to send it to and to send it back. Then they offered to send it to that place for me, get it back, and then replace the crystal and battery and make sure it was all working. I said great and I sent them the info on how to get it re-​plated (location in Canada).
So I never heard anything. (This is going on two months of back and forth.) I finally call and ask them what happened and they said they did not want to send it to Canada and they were going to send it somewhere else that did good work. OK, would have been nice to run that by me but I just wanted it done at this point.
Another few weeks go by and now they are no longer responding to my e-​mails! I call and ask and end up speaking to the owner. He says re-​plating can only be done at the factory and they won’t send it anywhere. I ask them if they have done anything to my watch and he says no. I told him to send it back. He said, «You want me to send it back to you?» I said «Yes, just send it back.» He responded, «Ok». *Click*
Wow…
Up to that point everyone had been polite on the phone. Difficult to understand but polite. I felt pretty good that they would actually send it back and they did. In fact they sent it Fed Ex with signature required and packaged quite nicely. Thank you for that at least…
My ultimate issue is that I sent them high-​res photos. They should have been able to determine that the band (and watch body for that matter) needed to be re-​plated or replaced. If you don’t re-​plate and refuse to have it done then why waste three months of my time?! And if you aren’t going to do it then why say that you would?!
I can’t deny that they have good reviews for walk-​ins but I strongly suggest you not send any watch in for repair through the mail. And to be clear: they do NOT re-​plate!!!

These people tried three times to repair my Ulysse Nardin watch. The results were pathetic. When I finally did have the watch repaired at U N in Florida they were amazed at the incompetency
Of MJ. In addition to the repairs I needed new hands and a refinished dial. Please don’t make the mistake I made.

Little shop hidden in a small strip mall so fire up your GPS if you don’t know the area. MJ watch service is without any doubt the place to go for any watch repair need no matter how big or small the task is.
The summary, highly professional service at a competitive price. Perfect combination for me.
This is now my go to place even for batteries replacement. $ 10 for a professional battery replacement done in no time with the right tools. Yep, absolutely worth the detour for the piece of mine to know it’s been done per manufacturer standard.

This store ROCKS!!! 10 stars. I have been taking watches here for years to get batteries replaced. Probably over 10 visits in 8 years?
I have never waited more than 5 — 10 minutes for the work to be done.
This is important since I would drive around with the watch for a month before stopping.
Many places could learn about customer service from these guys.
