The Art School in Glenview provides art classes for children and young adults. Children’s classes provide a fun atmosphere and positive atmosphere for children to learn the basic principals of art and to build a strong foundation.

The young adult and high school programs are geared towards preparing the student’s art portfolio for college and beyond. As the portfolio is essential for any artist, we strive to improve it to showcase an artist’s talents and individual growth.

History

Established in 2001.

Dong Joo Kang opened the doors to the Art School in Glenview in 2001 and has since been working closely with her students in order to share her personal experiences of being a professional artist for over 20 years. Our students have received countless awards and have been recipients of scholarships awarded by schools such as Parsons, Fashion Institute of Technology, Rhode Island School of Design, OTIS and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Meet the Business Owner

Dong Joo K.

Business Owner

Dong Joo graduated from Ewha-​Womans University in Korea in 1982. She obtained her Masters in Fine Art in 1986. As an artist her work have been displayed in many galleries such as Rochester Art Center, Philadelphia Art Gallery and she is a Baltimore-​Maryland Art Council member.

After working 20 years as an artist, she wanted to pass on her knowledge as an artist to students and she opened up the Art School in Glenview. As the director of the Art School in Glenview she is able to pass on her personal past experiences and adequately prepare students for a career in art.

My daughter loves this art school. She receives excellent technical help and guidance that the public schools are not able to offer. They devote so much time to understanding the basics of drawing, shading and coloring with pencils. Her artwork has been phenomenal under the guidance and training of these teachers. The space isn’t well-​lit and feels a bit old, but it doesn’t detract from the quality of instruction and curriculum that the teachers offer. We highly recommend this school as a supplement for kids who want to excel in the fine arts.

I’m one of those who earned full scholarships for nation’s top art schools after I learned in this program. First of all, teachers are high educated and well-​qualified for teaching art. They provide high-​quality in teaching and a lot of care for students’ performance not only in academic but also in portfolio creation. The kids who come to this place are seriously smart and very talented. I made good friends there too. Great place!

Dong is an incredible woman and a great teacher. The staff here is just wonderful. My daughter just loves this place. The drawing classes are so creative. It’s perfect for a young inquisitive, and creative mind. I really think it’s important at this stage in life for children to be involved in activities like this.

Every time I pick up my niece from art school, she raves about her great classes and the teachers that work there. She has told me that likes how multi-​faceted the classes are, ranging from sketching to painting and other disciplines of art. It is also in a great location and is convenient for me to pick her up after work. Beautiful facilities, very endearing staff.
I think it’s great that she has taken an interest in art. Kids these days do nothing but play video games and litter their minds through TV and the internet.
Overall, this place is a GREAT place to learn and be creative. I definitely recommend it!
