Specialties

Short & Main is a new wood-​fired pizza restaurant and raw bar in the historic West End of Main Street in Gloucester. A collaborative effort between Amelia & Nico Monday, owners of The Market Restaurant in Annisquam, and partners Howie Correa and Matthew Cawley, their vision is to create a full, clattering, joyous family-​style Italian pizzeria.

Short & Main will have roots in pizza Napolitana (thin crust, wood-​fired oven pizza), but also include a New England style raw bar highlighting local oysters, cherrystones, and lobster. Short & Main will serve food that is hand-​made, honest, and highlights local produce, seafood, meat, and cheese. We have a customized cocktail and raw bar to compliment the Mugnaini wood-​fired oven sent straight from Tuscany. Guests will enjoy sipping locally brewed beers, naturally made Italian wines, and hand crafted cocktails, while oysters are shucked and pizzas are cooked right before them.

History

Established in 2013.

The four owners have been working together at The Market Restaurant for the past few years and are now coming together to open up this second space. Nico & Amelia met and fell in love while cooking at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California. When they left Chez Panisse after six years to open The Market Restaurant in Amelia’s hometown, Gloucester, Massachusetts, Matt and Howie were part of that easterly migration. Matt is the resident designer and is the driving force behind the aesthetic vision. He’s also an integral presence in the dining room as the energetic and inviting host. Howie is the master of the ever-​changing beer and wine list. He brings with him an experienced and informed palate, and recently collaborated with Scribe Winery in Sonoma, CA to create their first rosé. In just a short time, The Market gained critical success and has been well received by the local community as well as the larger Boston food community, and Short & Main promises to do the same.

Amelia is the General Manager, but she also does some oyster shuckin’, ice cream makin’, license gettin’ and helps keep the other three owners where they need to be.
