Bicycle Bob’s

I had one of the best customer service experiences yesterday at Bicycle Bob’s Bicycles in Goleta. Richard not only heard my dilemma, but actually took time to figure it out then proceeded to fix, adjust and replace parts on my bike right then and there. I never once felt impatience from him for my lack of knowledge, nor was I pushed to buy anything. Instead he offered ideas on how to save money. He was very knowledgeable, professional, courteous and friendly. I came away with a feeling of great satisfaction, excited to get back out on my bike. Customer service like this is incredibly hard to find.

I’m new to cycling and was looking for an entry level bike to enjoy. I first gained knowledge from friends and the internet so I felt prepared to go test ride a few bikes. (Spending $ 500‑1000 on a bike was a big deal to me) I went to a few local shops, rode a few brands and must admit I got friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable service at all the shops. I felt I was getting closer to a decision but not with any real certainty.
Then I went to Bicycle Bob’s!
The instant I got on the Trek Lexa, the decision was made. Without any special fitting, it was by far the most comfortable of all the bikes I had been on. The components were middle of the road and within my price range $ 899. So the decision was made with complete confidence. I slept on it (like I said, this was a big deal) and felt just as strong of the decision in the morning. I left spending $ 1035.
And then the deal… with Access card, Bicycle Bob’s eliminates the sales tax and gives you 10% off accessories. I was able to get 40% off a returned pair of shoes. Also free service for the 1^st year.
Not only did I feel confident in my Trek purchase, I felt like I got a great deal. The sales staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. They provided options with explanations for all decision, from the bike to the accessories. They listened to my thoughts and steered me into a great purchase!
My Bicycle Bob’s experience was exceptional. Bicycle Bob’s is doing a tremendous job in promoting cycling by also offering education/​practice classes and group rides.
In summary, the Trek bike and associated products are outstanding, the service was exceptional and they offer great value.

In general, Trek dealers are not my favorite to deal with. They tend to have the most arrogant sales staff who also have tendencies toward belittling their customers with a certain amount of cocky arrogance about the products they sell and the fact that they feel they know more than you. One only needs to go into the Santa Maria Trek store to witness an example of horrible customer service.
However, I’ve found the sales people at Bobs to be helpful and considerate of your needs. They also seem to have a fairly knowledgeable sales staff that knows the product they sell.

I got my bike at their old Goleta shop years ago; my guy got his newest bike at their current shop. One thing has always been consistent about Bicycle Bob’s — their excellent customer service. Their «new» shop is so impressive, reminds me of an REI but for just bikes/​bike related items. I highly suggest checking this place out!

Very helpful service. I came in to get some new spin cycling shoes. A bit pricey, but good selection and I like to support local business so I will be back!

Nice shop! Great selection of bikes. Knowledgable and friendly staff. I have. In or fixes done and bought supplies and tires over the years. The new location is better for parking and inventory — it’s easy to see what they got.

Great service. Went in to buy a brake bleeding kit. Service guy was very helpful, and even gave me a few tips for doing it. Have been back since and everyone has always been very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

The store is amazing and the staff is extremely knowledgeable/​helpful. I’m just starting out cycling so they were able to point me in the right direction. There was no ego or condescending tone when I’m sure I asked some dumb questions.
Definitely worth checking out.

In town to celebrate our anniversary and saw that Bob runs 2 rides on Sunday morning. One for avid cyclists like my husband and a casual 16 mile ride for riders like me.
Great group of folks and Bob was super friendly and helpful.

Superb service, they serviced my 10 year old mountain bike for a cheap price, and today they are fixing my flat tire immediately, OMG!!!

Huge store with great selection. Although I didn’t purchase anything, I found the staff to be kind and incredibly helpful in answering all my questions. There’s a really nice vibe here and I plan on returning.

One of the nicest shops I’ve seen. Classy, huge inventory, big inventory of Electra cruiser bikes and accessories. Mid to high end rides, friendly salespeople. Overall good vibe here.
I recently bought a used cruiser for my daughter’s mode of transportation at college and needed it fixed with a few parts. The mechanic there was able to fit me in, and get me out quick. I had a good strong cup of coffee while I waited too!

Positives: Nice spacious store and lots of stuff they’d like to sell you. They cater to all types of bikers with money. The repair guys are mostly knowledgeable –some are really good.
BUT regarding the service, they will not let you leave without hard selling you that something needs to be replaced. Caviat Emptor! (sp?) Guys, just fix my bike and get me back on the road. If you get me addicted to quick and cheap repairs, you’ll make a lot more money from me over time.
My case study: I went in for a broken front dérailleur (they had it in stock). They replaced it, but said my chain had stretched. So I gave them the go ahead, and they finished in time for my Saturday ride. After those repairs my bike had multiple shifting problems. 2^nd (and final) visit, told me my rear dérailleur was bent, and that because they had replaced my chain, to make it work right I needed a new cable and rear cassette, and even that might not fix it.
I took their ‘repair’ to Fastrack for a 2^nd opinion, and 10 free minutes later, I was rolling and shifting perfectly. I will ALWAYS go back to Fastrack.

The new space is like a dream for cyclists. I suspect that this is Trek’s flagship shop that they will bring in other Trek dealers to show how to get it right. The scale is so enormous and the décor is so fancy for our area that it is almost worrisome. How will it stay profitable? But since it has great, LBS roots and is located beside the Imperial Lounge (a great bar!) perhaps it’ll work.
Because I ride more than 3000 miles/​year on my bike, I count on great bike shops and mechanics. But because my fleet of bikes are from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, this fancy TREK-​centric shop is not exactly my style. I hunted for merino wool, leather saddles, and bike camping gear and it’s just not that form of shop. For weekend riders who want the state-​of-​the-​art bikes, this store won’t disappoint.

HUGE improvement over the two previous locations in the area. I got the chance to be there on opening weekend and the staff seems ready for the refreshing change. I’ve always gone to Bob’s on upper state for small parts and never cared for their stock of specialized bikes. Now that they are a certified Trek dealer I’ve been wanting a new ride ever since. Looking forward to seeing their new business grow.

Love Bicycle Bob’s! Got my Specialized bike 2 years ago from them and it still is in great shape. It’s great that you can eat complimentary bike tune ups for the first year. Highly recommend :)
