Aegis of Granada Hills

My experience has been good. My relative has lived here for 2 years now. When there has been an issue or question, I have dealt directly with nurse, or management and have received good communication with a focus on solutions. My relative is at ease living here and enjoys the activities and care. It is an appealing comfortable place and has been great for us. I visit often and take the time to connect with staff so they know me and I know them.

Wish I could give them negative stars. Beware is all I can say! Their point system is completely arbitrary I have seen evaluations for assisted living residents who came in 100 points higher than a memory care patient. Each point translates into dollars but they won’t tell you the value nor will they disclose point categories and ranges. This place makes it impossible for you to budget for your loved one. They do not promptly respond to fall alarms and they promote imbeciles who put people in bed with broken hips and leave them to sit there for 5 hours suffering in pain. In fact they do not take bed and fall alarm seriously at all and routinely do not use them even though you purchase them for your loved one.
Hiring people with hospitality backgrounds to take care of our beloved parents when they’re in fragile states is ridiculous. They are too greedy to hire the right number of staff to man memory units and their staff multitasks when they should be focusing on resident care. They’re responsible for laundry and cleaning functions while caring for patients. And usually only 2 to 3 of them on duty for entire ward of memory patients. Aegis will try to convince you that this is adequate until you get your loved one in the door and see how many falls they take, how many urinary tract infections they get from inadequate hygiene, how much weight they lose because there isn’t enough help to assist them with feeding. In my opinion they were not properly staffed and the behavior of the director Victor Mills is outrageous. Aegis will promised us the moon and did not deliver basics. It’s all about appearances with Mills too much perfume in the hallway to cover up smells and he would like to do away with all alarms so that they don’t interrupt his conversations when he showing the place off to perspective residents. He told us that using the fall alarm for my mother caused her to become more disoriented. She was blind and a fall risk and he knew all about this when we brought her in. When she made it out of her room wandered down a hallway into another room she fell and broke her hip. they picked her up off the floor and put her to bed for more than five hours!!! they tried to claim that the son told them not to take her to the hospital!!! Between the billing and the care that was received in our case my opinion is stayaway, stayaway stayaway!!! read a book about long-​term care and learn a lot before you put your folks there!!!
Newsflash for everybody that has a few dollars in the bank!!! If your loved one does not qualify for Independent living or assisted you’re better off to bring your loved one home or put them in a small apartment nearby your home and hire private care. It’s more cost-​effective and as long as you supervise them directly meaning look in the refrigerator to see that food is there turn down bedsheets and look at clothes for cleanliness. Your loved one will get better care. We all get to a place where we cannot take advantage of the social activities offered and it is my firm opinion through experience that at this juncture children have to come full circle and show up for their parents in a very meaningful and unfortunately time consuming way. If your loved one is outside of your home Make numerous surprise visits! My feeling is that you should employ someone directly rather than work through the agencies Who do not screen their employees well no matter what they tell you and who pay them barely above minimum-​wage and keep the lions share of your fees in their pockets.
In any case again it is my firm opinion that you should avoid Aegis of Granada Hills!

My dad had his eye on a retirement home that he had anticipated moving in to for three years now. I decided to investigate other places for him; especially since my office where I work is close to one that I checked out and fell in love with, hoping he would like it… He went to visit and immediately decided to move in to Aegis in Granada Hills. He is picky, and all he does is say how much he is liking it there. I, personally have been there to visit many times since he moved in and find it a very pleasant, clean and active place to live. The staff that works at Aegis smile in passing and are also very pleasant to deal with. The director, Victor, is a great person and will bend over backwards for us and anyone else from what I can tell. Many people I know that know someone that is living there say they hear only great things about this retirement home. I am extremely pleased with everything so far!

beware the director is a throw back to a snake oil salesman!!! what you see is not what you get just under the façade of a boutique facility you get false promises, un trained staff and a director whose lack of real undeerstanding of the business is evident at every turn. you can’t comp someone for a broken hip!!! the fee structure is a scam and everything about this place goes beyond dissappointing! am in the process of legal review now thanks to their director victor!

Recently, my father-​in-​law became a resident at Aegis. My wife, mother-​in-​law, and other family members met with Victor Mills, Aegis Director, and other staff personnel before deciding upon transferring my father-​in-​law to Aegis from a local rehabilitation facility. We were all very impressed with the compassion and professionalism of Mr. Mills and the staff personnel. After visiting several other assisted living facilities in the San Fernando Valley, we have all concluded that Aegis is the very best available, providing nearly a resort type environment with top flight personnel who truly care about the Aegis residents.

The director has a lot of ego and likes to go golfing, which isn’t a problem but he makes it become an issue when he mixes work and play. He doesn’t seem to have a lot of compassion for neither family members nor the law.
As a result, I don’t recommend this particular Aegis location to anyone with a geezer they love. Glad I brought mine out of here.
