History

Established in 1953.

Fonner Park was organized in 1953 when Gus & Emma Fonner donated land for a home for the Hall County Fair. A year later Live Thoroughbred Horse Racing was introduced and continues every February through May. In 2006, the Heartland Events Center was built on the Fonner Park grounds. Concerts, sporting events, banquets, and trade shows are held in this 30,000 sq. ft. arena that can seat up to 7,500. Adjacent to the arena is the 8,000 sq. ft. Bosselman Conference Center that provides a professional setting for meetings, conferences, banquets and wedding receptions (one large room or up to five separate rooms).

In 2010 the Nebraska State Fair moved to Grand Island. $ 42 million worth of facilities and 507,800 sq. ft were constructed at Fonner Park for this event. In the off-season, these state-of-the-art livestock and exhibition facilities provide opportunities for national, regional and local livestock shows, trade show, auctions and a host of other events.
