Whitewater Hill Vineyards & Winery

Great place for some wine tasting! My parents in law liked it more than we did and they got a few bottles. There’s lots of cool wine gifty things like tea towels, coasters, aprons, magnets etc. Then some foodie things too.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.

When you walk into Whitewater Hill the first thing that hits you are the aromas of a working winery. Oak wood, grapes, must, and earth… an oenophile’s favorite combination. The complementary tasting was poured by a very knowledgeable and personable staffer who made appropriate recommendations, and who truly loves his craft. These are world-​class wines that have been allowed to mature. Definitely a must-​go. And easy to get to, right off CO 141.

Beautiful property. The woman working was personable. We liked the Chardonnay best. The only negative comment I have is that the tasting building has an odd odor.

This is an awesome vineyard to taste a lot types of wine. The lady, (sorry I don’t remember her name) was super friendly and knowledgeable about the wine. There are dry and sweet wines available. Everything you taste was there for purchase as well.
The scenery is gorgeous. Outside tables looking onto the vineyard and large windmill. I went home with a few bottles. I really enjoyed the merlot and port.

Nice winery with a friendly staff. They also have a nice selection of t-​shirts and a few gift items.
My favorite was the select Chardonnay even though I usually prefer red wines.

The first of three stops along the Palisade winery route. Even given how busy they were, they were attentive and personable. Loved the cab franc and port.

Whitewater Hill Vineyards was stop #2 on our Grand Junction, CO wine trail.
The tasting room, as described by the hosts, is a «working winery tasting room». The building is quite large with the main portion being used as their working space where they make and bottle the wine. They have craftfully spaced off a smaller section (yet quite spacious and adequate) to serve as their tasting room, furnished with a very nice sized bar that can accommodate 4 – 5 small groups of tasters.
When we first arrived it was just us and the two hosts, but quickly the place became quite full. One large group of about 8 joined, then another of 4 and another of 2. We were packed! But in a good way! Our tasting room host, Deirdre, was so much fun AND she was extremely knowledgeable about wine and world travel. It was fun passing the time with Deirdre, right up until the computer went down and they were unable to use credit cards or get access to the cash drawer (and with a full house, no less!) Poor things! Talk about stressed out! However, we were determined and waited probably about 30 minutes until finally they ran our credit card the old fashion way — with a card imprinter.
We would highly recommend you visit Whitewater Hill Vineyards. The staff are fun and friendly, and with 17 to choose from, they will surely have a wine for everyone’s pallet!

This was the third winery we visited one day. Each winery kept sending us to the next «must do» winery. We are glad we got to meet Nancy and taste her wines. Free tastings and many to taste. I am amazed at these CO wineries. They do it all. The grow the grapes, they make the wine and then they are the people pouring it. It is a wonderful experience. Nancy will answer all your questions. I learned about ice wine. I had never really understood that process and now I do. It was a great experience. Tasting room has some other items to buy. We bought a few bottles of wine to enjoy while we were in the area. I wish we could get these wines at home. Worth your time to stop and try their wines and have a chat with Nancy. Good time.

My favorite Colorado winery. Owners were engineers who have devoted their lives to become vintners for the last decade. Excellent and wide variety of wines. Even a fabulous ice wine from 2012.

My boyfriend and I saw this winery as we were dropping off our friend at the airport. I made him stop here to get my vino fix lol. There was this big hot pink Mini limo parked out front and you know there’s gotta be a bridal party in there. There was a group of girls and a nice couple in there finishing up their tasting.
I tried all of the dry whites and dry reds plus the semi sweets. The girl pouring was super friendly and conversational. She had just started 8 days ago and seemed to know quite a bit about the wines. My favorites were the Sauvignon Blanc, dry Riesling, Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and surprisingly enough the white merlot. I bought a sauv Blanc and cab franc. Also bought a hysterical tea towel that I may just wear on my belt at Telluride Wine Fest this week. :)

Whitewater seems pretty cookie cutter. They have some good wines but they lack in atmosphere. It feels similar to wine tastings I’ve been to at liquor stores. Nothing like Hermosa or Carlson wines where you really get to know the staff and the wine. Hermosa has the best red wines I’ve ever tasted and Carlson has all of the yummy fruit wines.

The place has potential. Nice tasting staff. Wines were clean with no flaws. Bought a couple of bottles (chardonnay & merlot)

My mom and I stopped in early on Saturday evening, and I’m so happy we did! The tasting was just the two of us, and the two wonderful women who worked there! They did a great job with the tasting and we learned so much! We had to buy two bottles, if we weren’t flying we wouldn’t have bought more! Delicious wine, great staff, awesome experience!

Some of the best wine I’ve ever had. The view is beautiful, the staff is nice, tasting is free, wine is inexpensive. I bought 2 bottles and ended up going back to buy 2 more for a friend’s wedding. Highly recommended stop if in or stopping by Grand Junction!

E and I stopped into Whitewater Hill before we truly began our drive home from Palisade. Seems a bit… erm…unlawful…to be drinking before driving, but the truth is we never really try enough tastes to affect us.
Whitewater Hill has some of the most delicious wines in Palisade (although technically I guess they’re in Whitewater!). When we went apple picking in Paonia a couple of years ago, we picked up a bottle of their Sweetheart Red at the Delicious Orchards tasting room, and a few weeks later we savored the bright, fruity, smooth bottle and sadly drank it to its demise in one sitting.
Somehow, we have also never stopped at the Whitewater booth in two years of going to Winefest, so when we drove by the actual vineyard on an overcast Sunday morning, dreading the return home from idyllic Palisade, we decided to make it our one and only winery stop (GASP!) of the trip.
Not only was every wine we tasted superb, but I also greatly enjoyed their semi-​dry reds, of which there are few in this world that I actually enjoy drinking. We sipped a few wines from each category, indulged in the $ 2.00/taste ice wine (which is always enjoyable, complex, and unique, no matter where it comes from). We also chatted with Nancy, who was manning the tasting room by herself, and enjoyed being the only customers at noon on a Sunday. We swapped stories about Mexico (there’s always a fellow Mexico enthusiast wherever you go) and Nancy gave us some hints on where to travel next in that fabulous country.
After a (much) longer stop than anticipated, we happily purchased a bottle of Merlot, as well as E’s requisite Port, and left knowing that this will certainly not be the last time we visit Whitewater Hill Winery.

Nice small vineyard in Grand Junction, CO. Excellent wine selection especially the Icewine. Michael was very nice, knowledgeable and answered our every question while we were indulging ourselves on the free wine tasting :)
Definitely a must visit while in the area. Too bad they don’t ship to NJ for their wine club.

My wife and I recently moved to Grand Junction and decided to go check out some of the local wineries one Sunday afternoon. Of the 4 that we visited that day, Whitewater Hill was our most memorable and favorite.
As the name implies, it sits on a hill top which overlooks their beautiful vineyard. As we walked up to the door of the tasting room, we felt a little intimidated by a foreboding looking set of windowless doors. But as soon as we opened them we were greeted by a wonderful, friendly young woman at the tasting bar. She made us feel at ease and welcomed us in to taste some wines. The tasting room is adequate — nothing fancy, and more a part of the winery itself than a separate entity. There are stacks of oak barrels, steel fermentation tanks, and other accoutrements that one would expect to find in a wine making setting.
There is no charge for the tasting, and the selection is huge. We started off with the no-​oak Chardonnay, and proceeded down the line-​up through their other dry whites, reds, then into the off dry selections and finally some dessert wines. One of our favorites was a dry white Viognier, which we ended up purchasing. A crisp, dry white with floral aromas and nice tart finish. It paired deliciously with a BBQ chicken dinner we had later that evening. Other highlights were the Riesling, which we were informed recently won Best Colorado White at an AWS competition. We also enjoyed the Shiraz, and the ice wine (a sweet white made from frozen on the vine grapes) was amazing.
Gazing out of the tasting room window at the majestic summit of Mt. Garfield, making pleasant conversation with the tasting room attendant and enjoying the wine, we had one more reason to believe our decision to relocate to the Grand Valley was a good one. I hoping we can find their wines at our local liquor store, but if not we will be making another trip to Whitewater Hill sometime soon!

Going 5 stars because this was my first Vineyard/​Winery tour and it was great. We were the only ones there, it was easy to find, and the staff were friendly. We did a tasting and spent a lot of time asking questions and talking about the process. I bought 4 bottles and I am a beer drinker! Stop by and check them out– not pretentious, just funny and full of wine smarts.

This was our second trip to White Water… in August we went a-wine’ing (Is that a word?) and bought a bottle at most of the vineyards since in Grand Valley Colorado, they don’t charge for tastings like they do in Cali… So, we bought a few bottles from WW. We had enjoyed our first visit and found the guy who poured for us very knowledgeable yet not pretentious. We joined their wine club where they send you two bottles of wine quarterly and when we came in this trip one of the owners introduced herself and asked our name… when we told her she said. «Oh! you guys just signed up for our club. right?» That’s always a good feeling to be remembered.
This vineyard unlike many in the Palisade area has the varietals you are used to and doesn’t make any of the fruity, sweet, white zin type wine. We bought Chard, Merlot, Cab Franc, Cab, White Merlot & a great dessert wine!
We bought a case this time and got our 10% discount for being in their club and a 10% discount for buying a case… all in all a great deal.
The owner also invited me to come in the back and see some of the process, they had just started some Merlot. She was great, super friendly and you could tell she loved what she was doing! I also got to taste the White Merlot «wine «before it became wine right out of the big vat. It was YUMMY! I highly recommend a visit.
