History

Established in 1957.

Alger Bikes was originally purchased as a fix it shop in Alger Heights in 1957 — Tom Walquist converted it to primarily bicycles over the next few years, then took on Schwinn. In 1968 the store was moved to it’s current location at 120 28^th St SW. Through the ‘70s Carl took over and brought on BMX bikes and fitness equipment. We are skilled at helping people get started in cycling as well as solving problems for the seasoned cyclist.

Business Owner

Brian is the 3^rd generation owner of Alger Bikes. He grew up in the business, went off to college for Plastics Engineering and did a lot of racing. Went to work in Product Development, quit to race bikes, went back to engineering, then in 2009 took over for Dad. Still active as a rider, cyclocross and mountain bike racing in the fall.
