The estheticians are great and do a fine job giving Brazilian waxes, but the receptionist customer service is lacking and where I knock of 2 stars. No one calls you back when you leave messages to make an appointment?
The place is clean with bright simple décor. Located on Fulton St. at Jefferson, there is only street parking I believe so bring change or use your park mobile app. You can also park at the library across the road since the wax only takes about 20 mins, and the library validates for 1 free hour or you can pay a nominal fee.
Last time I went to Sassafras was in 2014 so I’m not sure if they have new staff. If so, they’re not very responsive so I guess I’ll just have to take my business somewhere else if no one is going to return my calls right?

I love that this is a waxing only place. Experts at their craft. Megan did a great job and she was super nice. They use wax that is the peel off kind, so no paper strips. It was actually painless considering that you are ripping hair from your body! This is now my go-​to place in GR for waxing services. Thanks ladies!

Extremely fast work. I had Brazilian, lip, armpits, eyebrow shaping and leg wax jobs. It was all done in less than an hour. Fast! My aesthetician did an amazing job of keeping me laughing, relaxed and distracted from the sting of the wax job. It was all my first time! I don’t think I could have handled it if she didn’t distract me the way that she did.
This salon is perfect for me because the work is top notch, it’s squeaky clean but also laid back. I will be back.

Extremely poor customer service, complete with rude receptionist. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The first wax I got here was done so poorly I had to go back the next day for it to be redone which was extremely unpleasant. Never never book any services with this place.

Good prices for the services they provide, and they also give referral bonuses, which was always a perk for me. This was the first place that I had waxing done and I only had one experience where I had excessive bumping, but someone told me that she probably used the wrong kind of wax since I have fine hair.

I called Sassafras in the morning and got a same day appointment for waxing. My cosmetologist was Kara. She was friendly, chatty, and kept things moving along as fast as she could. There was little discomfort during and after the waxing. It was a much better experience than the last time when I got waxed at my salon — resulted in in blood, small skin cuts, and swelling for a week afterward. I will definitely return to Sassafras for future appointments.

It was a last minute appointment, and they were so accommodating! Meghan was amazing, gentle and friendly when I got the Brazilian wax. And the price!!! Amazing!!! Great deals, the salon was exceptional clean. This was really a great find. Can’t wait to go back!

I had a great first Brazilian experience at Sassafras. Kara was quick, efficient and chatty… which made things less awkward and made the time go faster! I’ll definitely be back. They also have a great reward and referral program!

Sassafras is clean, quick, professional, and very reasonably priced. To me, these are the most important things in a waxing salon.
Their loyalty program (buy 9 of one service get the 10^th free) coupled with the rebooking discount is the ideal encouragement that I need to keep up with services. I’ve finally learned that the process is so much easier and less painful when the appointments are regular.

Megan is the bomb. Surprisingly my wax was relatively painless (it hurt but was very bearable compared to my other experiences). I did not take any medication. She moved very fast and didn’t miss anything. Staff was very nice and professional and prices were reasonable. I will definitely be back!

I recently visited Sassafras to get waxed for the first time, and I have to say it was great! I got the full Brazilian and I was very nervous going to my appointment. My esthetician (I had Megan) made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Yes obviously it hurt, but trust me people, if you are considering waxing «down there» instead of shaving, I highly suggest it! Especially if you’re considering Sassafras. It is WELL worth it!
Before getting waxed, I did a lot of research on salons in my area. One of the main reasons I pick Sassafras is because for one, they have great prices that didn’t make me think twice on whether or not it will be high a quality wax. For two, they specialize in waxing! That was really important to me.

Having been a loyal customer to the European Wax Center chain (in California) I was desperate for a new salon dedicated to waxing, specifically places that will do full brazilians.
(After reading a couple of the reviews and smh on this page there are a couple of things you should be aware about waxing: everybody’s pain tolerance is different but it really depends on your esthetician and how they work with you, you probably won’t get ALL your hairs out the first time/​length really does matter when waxing, the frequency of your hair growth aka how fast everything grows back depends on how often you wax/​if you shaved inbetween, and if you are unsatisfied with the work you can communicate that with your esthetician and they usually can explain why
Of course waxing disclaimers don’t come everytime you shave, so if you are going in for your first time DO tell them so they can let you know what to expect. Also it’ll probably make it less awkward with your esthetician. I’m always awkward so I’m beyond that point… but I’ve had great customer service either way!)
The place is CLEAN and well kept. There are bathrooms/​wipes available for use too. The pricing for the services are well worth it. Especially when handling your lady/​man bits. Yes, they do guys and pregnant ladies which is always good know! If you’re looking for more savings after 10 services you’ll get a free one. Also, all the basic information you need is on their website and they staff is prompt about answering their emails! This place is great, I’m definitely establishing myself as a regular and would recommend to any pro-​waxers out there.

Sassafras is the best place to get a wax! Really professional and kind staff. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. So glad I chose to come here! Although Brazilians are not especially comfortable the Estheticians make the process quick and as painless as possible. I’ll definitely be coming back here soon!

Let’s face it, friends… the bikini area is not the most pleasant of places to get waxed, but if you want to give it a try or are looking to do some up keep, I recommend Sassafras!!! From the moment you walk in it’s just really friendly and chill.
My waxer was so nice and gentle and thorough! Three qualities that are very important when dealing with the nethers. The wax was also less painful than the kind with the fabric strips.
I was also in and out faster than I had expected. All in all it was a great experience. I will definitely visit them the next time I’m in town. Thanks, Sassafras!

This was my first Brazilian. Not as horrible as I expected. The results were good, however after I was home I noticed a hand full of left behind hairs I had to pluck with tweezers. I’d probably go back.

Typically I can hold out on my brow waxing until my hair appointments but maybe it was the warmer weather that was making my brows more unruly than usual so I made an appointment with Sassafras for a lunch time brow wax.
Walking in, the salon was cute with a youthful, clean feel. My waxer, Megan, was sweet and did a great job. Sadly they don’t offer sugaring but since it was just my brows, I was ok with the hard wax. My appointment lasted about 15 minutes and allowed me enough time to stop and get something for lunch on my way back to the office. I was happy with the results and another coworker booked a lunch appointment with them for a later date.
Take note– They are no nonsense about their appointment policy here. The receptionist was super clear that I couldn’t be more that 5 minutes late to a brow appointment or it would be forfeited. I almost had a heart attack racing to get here on time; I was screaming at a bus to go faster as I hightailed it across town. Thankfully, dear reader, I made it. For slow pokes, they offer text messaging alerts and reminders for your appointment.
Fun tidbit: Megan told me the hot dog place next door is delicious!

I went here on Valentine’s day to get a Brazilian wax. She was very fast but missed a ton of spots. Most of my hair that was removed started growing back in just a week because it wasn’t pulled up by the roots, just ripped. I have had better waxes before, so I will not be returning.

This is an excellent waxing salon in grand Rapids. The customer service is great and the results are really good. I have been nothing but pleased with the results and have been going back consistently since I moved here in August.

Had my back waxed last week, which is a first for me. The salon was super clean and the waxer made me feel very comfortable. It was quick and relatively painless. Based on this experience, there will be more waxing in my future. Thanks Sassafras for making my first waxing experience a great one.
