Business Owner

Tim VandenToorn serves as the Partnering Director for United Properties. He works with owners, new investors, and tenants daily, in addition to running the day to day operations of the company. Tim is a licensed Broker in the State of Michigan, and a member of NARPM. Before joining the full time staff, Tim worked as an independent contractor for United Properties where he was able to gain valuable experience in resolving maintenance issues, and gave him a great understanding of the properties we manage.

Tim also has several investment properties of his own which provides him firsthand knowledge and experience of the Grand Rapids market allowing him to advice investors from 7 different countries who work with him finding functional investment properties that will give our investors a good rate of return.

Tim is married and has three children. He enjoys anything outdoors.

I am not a renter. Instead, I am a property owner and hired United Property Management as a steward of my home in Grand Rapids. Perhaps, United Property Management provides a fantastic customer service to the tenants. But speaking from the property owner standpoint, I give United Property a BIG Failed «F» for their management style and customer service.
It has been nothing more than a big headache since the tenants moved in. There are constant reasons to fix or improve or remove something from the property. I can never verify this, but i suspect I am correct when I say «United Property Management benefits every time one of their contract workers is sent to a rental property to complete a task by taking a commission cut from the fees collected from the property owners». As I am having this problem, I found an online review of United Property by an anonymous writer:
No rating. They are dumb, dont know anything besides ways to get money from you. My step dad had properties thru them, took them back. They kept spending his money without asking to make repairs to the house. They cannot stop bugging us for things that concerns no one. Its been issue after issue, including many maintenance problems with the health and safety of our house. Its ridiculous how many problems ive had, and ive only been with them for 4months now
So, another word, I am not the only one who is having or had these types of problems. Please do not do business with United Property if you want to avoid these headaches. And make sure you hire a company that doesn’t relinquish your right to hire your own contractor. United Property has the right to charge fees to your account without your permission if the service costs under $ 300. But the fees can add up quickly.
Yes, my home is older and not in a perfect condition, but the rent amount reflects this status. We did a lot of improvements and updates to the house and made sure furnace is still in good condition and met the State of Michigan’s requirements for rentals before leasing it.
