Meet the Business Owner

Fred B.

Business Owner

First making forays into woodturning as a boy in his deceased grandfathers work shop; Fred is self-​taught with the advantage of having been able to watch the masters at work at Grand Rapids Carvers during his formative years. After a long hiatus from turning for education, marriage, and family, and after spending yeas as a production potter and after a variety of other artistic endeavors, Fred returned to wood as a medium for creative expression during the late 1990s. Having kept his turning skills somewhat intact through the years by making the occasional spindle or finial for a furniture project or a repair, Fred’s years as a potter helped in his move to become wood artist and in the creation of both open and closed vessels.

The owner of several antique printing presses, Fred does some wood engraving and wood cuts for small prints and also prints and sells note cards.
