Boarding On The Lake

Amazing experience!!! This trail is beautiful and Kal is an outstanding guide. His expertise and the great horses made me feel confident and at ease so I could thoroughly enjoy the ride despite my inexperience. My husband and I spent a half day and we look forward to coming back. We learned so much from Kal and really enjoyed his company. We will be coming back very soon! I highly recommend this place.

If you are looking for a fun outdoor adventure then Boarding On The Lake is the place to go. Kal was an awesome guide and picked the right horse with the temperament that matched my experience level. With his expert guidance any anxiety I had was quickly diminished and I felt like I had been riding horses for years. We were treated to amazing views of the lake and the surrounding trail area. We also got to see a family of deer with their babies which was an added bonus. We will definitely be back here again next summer.

This review is for the leasing and boarding aspect of BOTL.
A little while after I came for a trail ride here on my birthday, I started leasing a horse from BOTL as well as started taking lessons. I was able to follow Kal around on some of his trail rides until I met some ladies to ride with and became familiar with the trails. I love the Saturday group lessons from Tami, where I am learning about equitation and learning how to make my horse even better than she already is. Everyone at the barn is super sweet and helpful, you can tell a lot of people have been friends here for years, and I made friends with a lot of other horse leasers and owners. This is just a great place to be if you love horses!

This would be zero stars of it had the option. First let me share my experience. I purchased a Groupon in November of 2014. I booked my appointment immediately and the day before my appointment, I got a call advising me that the trip was cancelled to to inclement weather. So we rescheduled, 2 more weeks out. I then got another call, cancelled– too muddy. Rescheduled two more weeks out. They then called me the morning of the trip, advising me that it looked like it was going to rain, it never did. They told me they would call me back (as I was unhappy with the scheduling) which never came.
I forgot about the Groupon, which reminded me later, that I still had the deal in my Groupons. I call the to get on the schedule (understanding at this point the deal no longer stands, and I would get the money I paid applied to the total bill) and I get some punk kid named camel on the phone who had the audacity to call me a liar, and said I never booked any appointments and I was just mad the deal expired. I told him to check his records, and instead he insisted that I was lying to him..

One word: AMAZING!!! I’m so happy I got to go horseback riding. It was basically me and my BF’s first time riding a horse! Abe was our guide and he was super cool and patient with us. He was even nice enough to take pictures of us. During the trail we had the horse walk for the most part and had moments to make the horses go fast up hill. That was such an awesome and different feeling!!! I love it! For two people it was $ 135 for two hours. Not to shabby! =] the length and intensity of the trail was perfect. Not too long, not too short. The scenery of the lake, but not so lake because of the drought, was beautiful. I definitely recommend coming here to go horseback riding. I would could back every week (if I had the money ;]) AMAZING.

Highly recommend this place. The owner and staffs are very professional. We went for a 2 hrs ride through beautiful and peaceful trail. Very clean and cared horses. Great experience. The price was really decent.

Had a great trail ride with Kal! Horses were sweet, went along the beach, up and down a little mountain, through beautiful settings. Kal took pictures of us in the lake with horses! Had a good picnic lunch, sandwiches, potato salad and a cookie. Definitely wear a hat or remember sunscreen, jeans and tennis shoes or boots. Be ready for some fun!!!

Our guide Kal was awesome! First timers, so I/​we struggled a bit. But overall, he was patient and friendly with all of us. Best experience ever! Thanks for all the awesome photos you took of us! I love it!

This was my first time in 20 some years horse back riding and I had the time of my life. Our guide Kal was awesome. I can’t wait to ride again.

My husband and I had the opportunity to go on this great ride with Kal! We had so much fun. It was a much needed brake from the Chaos of everyday life! I’ve been wanting to do something but don’t have much time to get away. This get away was perfect. I was able to clear my mind for 2 hours and enjoy the 5 mile horse ride, with beautiful breathtaking scenery and a great tour guide… This I a must! Perfect for a date outing or family time! Loved it! Great for beginners… This was my first ride. I’m ready to go again!

Stunning views, beautiful horses, and an incredible guide (Kal) made this a ride to remember. I highly recommend anyone to enjoy all that Kal and Boarding on the Lake have to offer.

Highly recommend it! :D Kal is a super friendly and knowledgable guide that made this a great experience. It was an awesome trail with a beautiful scenery overall. The horses were so well behaved and I felt very safe and comfortable the whole time.
Tips:
–There are bugs all around so I recommend a thin long sleeve at this time of the year, long comfortable pants, long socks if possible because I did get one bite from a mosquito and it was on my ankle and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty/​wet.
–You aren’t in the sun for too long; there are quite a few shaded areas on the trail, but wear sunscreen if you do get sunburn easily.
–Kal takes awesome photos, make sure you get a few photos from him :)

I havent been horse back riding since I was a kid in LA. Went out last week and it was an incredible a tranquil experience. Cal was a very solid guy and worked and helped each rider based upon thier experience and skill level. After the ride, you are able to relax in a shaded picnic area at the stables for a nice deli lunch and drink. I will definitely be back this spring/​summer with friends for another ride. Kudos!

What a great experience! We have gone riding twice now with Kal and he was so great especially when adapting to having my 91 yo father with us!
He’s great at getting good pics with your phone or camera too!

Cal was great and safety is key to him. His horses are very well behaved and like other reviewers they are correct that these horses are not barn sour at all (rushing to get home). For beginners, never been on a horse before he gives a quick lesson, although he skipped it with my friend and I as we knew how to ride.
He took us on a really long ride trotting, cantering and also over rocks and into the water. One of the best trail rides I’ve been on I highly recommend this place for a safe and fun time.

Thanks to Kal for an amazing birthday ride! I felt safe and in the hands of a very capable and confident trainer. The ride was very fun and the views were absolutely fulfilling. A highlight was seeing the Bald Eagle on the Lake! I will be back with more of my friends and family for a ride!

It was my best horse-​ride experience thus far, thanks to a friend who bought the Groupon deal and organized a group adventure.
The trip started off solid with our guide, Kal, introducing the basics, getting everyone fitted with the proper horse, and arranging the line-​up. The 2-​hour journey is intended for novices but the trail has surprised us with plenty more fun than we expected as we traversed though the woods on the hill side, across the fresh water beach, and tread in the water.
I was trailing behind with my horse/​new friend, Bear, so I was not able to tune-​in on Kal’s talk about the surrounding wildlife and plants as well as the history of the region; however, I did really enjoy the scenery and the time in the nature.
The ride ended with a little picnic time at the property overseeing the ranch. A sandwich, salad, and water with a hearty portion of things each of us wanted to share about after the adventure. It was a pleasant afternoon well spent.

Me, my daughter, and two granddaughters had a great time riding. The trails are beautiful, and not too difficult for beginner riders. Our guide, Kal, was awesome! He’s very nice, knowledgeable, and funny. He pointed out different plants, wildlife, and gave a bit of a history lesson along the way. The horses fit each one of us well, and were well mannered and groomed. Kal offered to take photos of us from my phone camera — great photos!
The facility is very nice, with a nice picnic area. I definitely recommend this place for a nice horseback riding experience.

Came up for a two day stay at a local casino and decided to go riding. I am an experienced rider and most of the time rental places do not offer these types of rides. Cal (spelling?) was an awesome guide and very knowledgeable. I had a blast on the two hour ride and the price was very reasonable :) Great horses, equipment, and customer service. I would recommend this riding experience to anyone and everyone! They offer services for beginners through advanced riders. Thanks Cal and friends!

My husband and I haven’t been horseback riding in many, many years and today we did the 2 hour ride with a picnic lunch from a Living Social voucher. Cal was our tour guide and we both agreed that today was the best horseback riding experience we’ve ever had! Since we were novices, Cal gave us some helpful tips before even mounting the horses. The trail ride itself was pure pleasure and such a variety of surroundings (from the sandy beach up to the wooded trails among the oaks) and gorgeous scenery. My favorite part of the ride was when my Rocky Mountain horse «Latte» splashed in Folsom Lake! :)
I can’t wait to come back for another trail ride at Boarding on the Lake and won’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone!
