Lascelles Granite City

The food was excellent. We had the calamari with flash fried spinach for appetizer. Loved it but calamari was a little over cooked. For entrees we had the pan seared salmon with sweet potato mashed and creamed mushrooms and spinach & steak au poivre with cognac peppercorn cream sauce and 4 cheese gratin potatoes and asparagus. Steak cooked perfectly. And salmon perfect sear. We had the chocolate chip stuffed French toast bread pudding with bourbon Carmel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream for dessert that was to die for. The waitress was very nice and provided great service. Only negative is it was cold in there. Chairs were cold when we sat down and it didn’t warm up.

Great restaurant. The calamari salad is excellent, as are the friend Brussels sprouts. Brunch on Sunday has a great salmon hollandaise on the menu — although the salmon on this dish is often overcooked (I’ve had it three times now, and overcooked every time). Farmhouse burger is YUM!

I have been here a few times and have enjoyed it, however, brunch today was a bad experience. As someone who tries to eat somewhat healthy there aren’t even any healthy-​ish items on the brunch menu, not even a salad, not even a side of fruit. I asked for egg white substitution– negative. I ordered the frittata and it came out looking like a big blob of scrambled eggs/​cheese and grease. I couldn’t tell which was the «frittata» or which was the side of potato concoction at first. I’ve liked other things on the regular menus– but brunch was a big miss.

What can I say! I did not expect this place to be as nice as it was. Vince and I came her to celebrate with a friend for her birthday. It was a group of us, so we started with some drinks. They had Moscow mules and I had goose and cranberry; Vince had a dirty martini. Drinks were made well. We had appetizers afterwards (group of us). We had some of a deviled egg with a half strip of bacon in it, which it was cute, lol. And good too. We also had some type of cheese cover with a red sauce and a side of pitas slices. Those were good too. We also sampled flash fried spinach and calamari. Superb! For dinner Vince tried the crab cakes and I had the grouper on top of a rice and tomato dish. The food was really good! Hardwood floors, windows surrounds it and a nice bar. I believe this use to be a bank, but you wouldn’t know once you stepped in. Servers were attentive and helpful. I can’t say I have one bad thing to say. It’s downtown Granite, so keep your eyes out for it. We’re in Granite often, and we will be back.

So. I have been here three times in the last few months. One of the few places in GC that you can get a good glass of wine. Apps and entrees are great, BUT. the chef needs to tone down the salt and seasoning on the sides. And I live my salt shaker! Shrimp and grits– grits over seasoned. Steak pointe– potatoes over seasoned. Grouper — risotto over seasoned. I can add more and can’t take it out.

Brought out of town guests here to eat for the first time on a Sunday afternoon. I wanted to leave immediately because of the dog feces all over the floor. Guests were tired. We stayed. Food was just as disappointing. Too salty, under cooked, and unappetizing.
I called the restaurant and talked to the young woman manager there who asked about music. I made no mention of music. Who said there could not possibly be dog feces on the floor. But there was I told her. I know what dog feces smells like. Nothing like someone NOT LISTENING and insisting what you are saying cannot be true. One of the workers came over with a dust pan and broom and cleaned up the damp dog dirt piles, but it was still unpleasant.
Facts are facts. Very disappointing experience that I would not recommend to anyone. One star for our experience there is extremely generous.

WOW, in the middle of Granite City, a diamond is found… I’ve never been to Granite City, really don’t know a lot about it, and coming into it, it looked a little bit, well like a industrial city, not bad at all, just industrial. I was seriously beginning to wonder where my husband was taking us for dinner. He found it on Unilocal and we like to surprise each other with our awesome finds sometimes. Basically, it has the downtown feel, and on this little corner lies Lascelles. I was worried we were too casually dressed, but upon walking in, there were others dressed in the same attire (tshirt and jeans), though the later it got the more businesslike people dressed. We were sat immediately without a reservation. The staff was friendly and very accommodating to my children (10 and 13 who were with us). They don’t offer a children’s menu, but that was okay once we saw the menu. We heard the amazing specials, one of which was a loaded mac n cheese with chicken, bacon, and mushrooms. My oldest daughter got the loaded mac for her dinner, my youngest got a spring salad mix, my husband got the loaded baked potato soup and some brussel sprouts, and I decided on the farmhouse burger. Our drinks were simple, cokes for the kids, I ordered a delicious Clean Slate Riesling, my husband wanted a beer. The beer he wanted they didn’t have, as they are transitioning menus at the moment. The bartender took the time to come over, tell my husband about the beers they had, offer him a few different ones to try and decide on what he wanted, talk about EXCELLENT customer service. He was able to sample three different beers! My husband got his loaded baked potato soup first, all of us had a bite and it was cheesy and absolutely delicious, not too much potato, just enough cheese and bacon, perfection! My daughter loved her spring salad mix, my other daughter ate as much as her lil stomach could handle of the loaded macaroni and cheese, it was so unique and tasty. When I got the farmhouse burger, it was beautifully presented with a delightful egg on top, when cut in half (for my husband to share with me) the yolk melted down the sides. It was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. I loved the smoked gouda on top, the yolk dripping off, the juicy meat patty and finally the english muffin was not overly bready, but just enough to really taste the rest of the burger. The brussel sprouts that my husband ordered were delicious and I would recommend them to anyone. Flash fried and seasoned perfectly, TRY them! Even if you don’t like them, brussel sprout leaves flash fried are absolutely delicious! Overall, I would definitely go out of my way to come back to this restaurant, the staff was really nice, super friendly and just plain awesome. Not to mention the food, that was excellent! I cannot wait to go back and try more things on the menu!

Wow, what a disappointment! We had looked at the menu online, and it looked promising. The first thing we noticed was the almost pajama pants on the hostess… unprofessional looking, to say the least. We were seated at a table on the unfinished concrete floor, near the dingy, original linoleum floor. (Their ad mentions original marble floors… wonder where?)
We ordered drinks, and husband’s glass had a big chip in it .glad we noticed before it cut him.
We ordered, and waited a long time for our food, with the waitress apologizing twice, while we watched food come to those who came in and ordered after us.
I ordered the shrimp and grits starter. It looked good, except the grits were awfully chunky. It was so salty it was inedible. I had my husband try it, and he agreed.
He orderd the chicken and dumplings, which came with a half chicken which still had the wing bone in it… why? The skin was burnt. Had some «biscuits», which were very small, flat and tough.
After returning my meal, I was afraid of the other choices, so I opted for the spinach salad, which was good, but not outstanding.
Obviously, we won’t be returning.

Not had a bad meal, service lacks that is only downside. Appetizers we have had are good and the prices are not that bad. Great addition to the downtown area. Heard the lunch menu is good on my list to do.

Lascelles was surprisingly uncrowded for a recently reviewed (positively) establishment. The food was excellent, the surroundings nice and the service solid. So why not five stars? Because the music was too loud and for a crowd younger than was in the restaurant eating at the time. We asked our server to have it turned down. She agreed but nothing happened. A few minutes later, we asked the hostess. They turned it down for perhaps a minute, then back up again. Otherwise, a very nice experience.

Cannot believe this place is in Granite City!
The downtown area of Granite is trying very hard to have some sort of «urban renaissance», but if this is any indication, it’s going well. Nice theater nearby too for a date night of dinner and a movie.
We hit Lascelles for Sunday afternoon lunch/​brunch. Great and interesting menu choices, I practice a paleo lifestyle so avoiding starchy carbs is primary on my list. I had the steak and eggs, which was served with hashbrowns (i ate a few bites) and toast (which I just had them leave off). But I also ordered the brussels sprouts appetizer as my side. Everything was GREAT. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, the eggs were scrmbled nice and fluffy, and the B. Sprout app was delicious.
My wife had the eggs benedict and was ‘over the top’ happpy with it. Said it was the best eggs benedict she’d ever had.
Everyone in my family, from my 10yr old and the teenagers, and both parents were very happy with our choices, we will be back frequently for sure.

Came in 20minutes before closing to a very welcome greeting. The food had great flavor. Loved the little biscuits they brought us before our entrées. We chose the chicken n dumplings and the shrimp and grits. The sauce was delicious. Dessert was s’mores, chocolaty molten cake with toasted marshmallow and some chewy granola concoction. It was devoured immediately. Doors remained unlocked until we left. Very nice touch when you’re not rushed by staff wanting to leave after closing hours.

Excellent food.
Waiter was excellent and very attentive.
Refills were fast and plentiful.
Only downside is they don’t accept American Express. If they want to continue to get business lunched they need to add this.
I will definitely be back.
Not typical for Granite City for sure.

Great food! Great atmosphere! Make sure you make a reservation though, there aren’t a lot of tables.

This was DELICIOUS! Great bartender, and atmosphere. The chef puts a really nice twist on some typically traditional dishes. Go! You will be happy you tried it!

Went yesterday party of 13 around noon. We were sat immediately. Servers were nice. I recognized the guy server (use to work at applebees always had a bad attitude) but he had a whole different attitude which was a plus for me.
Loved that the servers provided specials for the day!
Appetizers were good.
Suggestion is to have the servers ask if extra plates r needed for appetizers. Lots of plates were set out (none were used) so they came back and collected all 13.
Presentation of the food was nice, but had no flavor.
I had roasted pork nachos. the meat had no seasoning and I would have liked it to have some spice or at least an option. Portion size was nice.
My fiancé had the Philly cheesesteak presentation was nice, again no flavor. but the onion rings were good.
We will try this place again but hope for a better outcome.

Ok so being a self proclaimed foodie I went here last night with high expectations. I have traveled all over the world and had some really great food so I really wanted this to be good.
Let’s start with the staff. Can you say «confused». We ordered our food and drinks first. Brussels sprouts for appetizer. I ordered the salmon and my friend had the butternut ravioli. In 15 minutes our food came along with our drinks and no appetizer. During that 15 minutes we observed members of the staff wandering aimlessly from table to table with food. They didn’t know to whom it belonged and were asking if it was yours. Only had our water during this time.
Our server was nice but didn’t have a clue either. When we inquired about why we never got our Brussels sprouts she said she was told that they had been given to us already. Probably to another table I would imagine. She apologized and said she would get them.
Salmon was so over cooked that when I tried to cut it with my fork it would fly across my plate and I lost a couple of bites that went onto the table. The bean and corn side dish was cold. The spinach side was cooked correctly but lukewarm. The presentation looked as if my 5 year old niece had plated it. Portions were small and were on a huge plate that made it look as if I was on a diet.
Brussels Sprouts arrived rather quickly after the initial mistake. They were not cooked thoroughly in fact they were almost raw. They were seared on the outside but super crunchy throughout,
My friends butternut squash ravioli looked fantastic so I had to try it. It had great flavor great presentation on the plate but again it was lukewarm.
A lot of work is needed at this place including the non existent décor. Absolutely nothing on the walls which may have been by design but it had the distinct feeling of a warehouse. There were a couple of vases sitting around with some peacock feathers stuck in them but that was it. I do mean a couple.
It was crowded but I would caution chef that people are coming to try you out and you need to do better than this if you want clients to return.
Would I go back? I want this to work. Downtown Granite needs this to work. This place could be the cornerstone of the renovation of downtown. There are some great businesses downtown already but we need to draw more in. Help Chef!
I would be willing to try it again because mistakes happen. Hoping it will be better next time

Ate at this restaurant last night and it was absolutely one of the best and reasonably priced meals I have had in a long time. Highly recommend eating here for dinner and can’t wait to try their lunch menu soon!
