Allen Creek Veterinary Hospital

I was charged 3 times the amount given on the phone by two people for my dog to be neutered. On top of that leading to the neuter my appointment was cancelled twice. The first cancellation was after i drove 1.5 hr and fasted my dog in preparation for the surgery. This cancellation they claimed was due to my dog needing a separate appointment for an exam prior to the surgery. Subsequently after making 2 more appointments one for the exam and one for the surgery, i received a phone call immediately prior to exam appointment, to tell me they were cancelling the exam and the exam would be given the day of the surgery. Very, very unprofessional service.

I love Allen Creek! So caring and thoughtful over the years as my beloved pets have aged and passed. I still take my pets there and would never dream of taking them anywhere else!
Dr Julie cried with me when one of my dogs was diagnosed with cancer (she watched him grow from a pup) and Dr Heidi came to my home to make sure he was comfortable and in no pain in his final days with us. They love my animals almost as much as I do.
Another time, I had some baby bunnies that were attacked and I rushed them in to doctor. The poor guys where so mangled, I literally got sick in their office. They couldn’t be saved so the doctors made sure they weren’t in any pain but I could see on the staff’s faces that they were upset too and really cared about these animals that they had never even met.
The groomers are great too, my dogs always come home smelling and looking good. They make nice accommodations for their quirky little personalities, who can be a bit needy.
Overall, they are fantastic and am so thankful for them!

I must preface with nothing against the Doctors and Dr Heide and Dr. Jim and all the rest but some of the front office help is impossible to get through to. I called first thing this morning Tuesday, May 31. I attempted to explain our German Shepherd may have re-​torn his ACL which was repaired approx. one year ago by Dr. Heide. I was told I could not get an appointment until June 15^th. I explained I did not want to keep the dog in extreme discomfort for another 16 days. I requested that at least can I get him in for X-​Rays. I was given an appointment for Saturday June 5^th which I was told was the earliest possible. We have been clients of Allen Creek for several years and have spent several thousand dollars on our animals. I would think re-​injured ACL would have some more of a priority. Since I was not able to convince the staff member of the urgency of this injury I am forced to take our German Shepherd, Hansel to emergency animal care in Medford the first thing Wednesday morning. (June 1^st.
Update, on Wednesday morning on my way out the door to Medford we contacted Allen Creek for a second attempt to have them see Hansel. This time a very helpful and understanding person listened to our concerns and in very little time we had an appointment with Dr, Heide at 10:30 the same morning. Upon our arrival Dr. Heide examined hansel and kept him for the rest of the day for X Rays and blood work. Thank you Dr Heide. I will definitely get the name of the person which finally understood our emergency and suggest she be placed in a training position and given a bonus. I will also relay the name of the person that did not gave a RIP! Some people do Care at Allen Creek especially all of the Veterinarians and the assistants.

That being stated, I do love the Dr. Heidi and all the Vet Techs.
Quick Notes version of my experience:
Received an incomplete grooming on my cat. Was made to wait an extra hour and a half for this incomplete groom. Still had to pay the full price even though the groom was incomplete, hideous, and overpriced.
Will NEVER be returning.
Full story:
I thought I’d try out this groomer since I couldn’t get my schedule to match with my usual groomer and my cat desperately needed to be trimmed down (I own a white Persian cat.)
While I was checking her in, the receptionist was telling me how wonderful the groomer was with cats and how she was the only groomer that did it (Not true, by the way.)
They told me it would take 3 hours to trim her down, bathe her, and let her dry in the heated kennel in case she wasn’t a big fan of the blower. Since she was extra fluffy, I was okay with that time estimate.
I was called a half hour before the time frame and was told she was going to take a little longer (about a half hour.) Again, I said okay, she’s a Persian and can get a little feisty.
I came in TEN minutes after the new pick-​up time and was told she STILL wasn’t quite ready. I assumed she was still drying since the groomer was happily helping another woman by grooming her terrier.
I was then told by the groomer that she needed to finish trimming her up. (Take into consideration this is now a FULL HOUR after the initial estimated time.)
She did not receive a bath, and thus had no drying time (Which I wish I would have know before paying the entire fee.)
Watching this woman, made me question why I brought my cat there. She expected the cat to stay still and was getting frustrated the cat wasn’t staying put.
And since the assistant/​front receptionist was busy cleaning up for closing, I went over to help the groomer hold the cat while she tried to finish trimming up. Covering me in fur because the excess still hadn’t been washed off. And THIS was the moment they BOTHA began telling me I was being neglectful of her flea medication since she was covered in them (She was not «covered» and she’s an OUTDOOR cat who I keep up on monthly Frontline doses… She may occasionally get a flea or two, it happens.)
As I am getting her back into her kennel and attempting to leave, the groomer then told me I wasn’t allowed to bring her back unless I paid an extra $ 35 to sedate her OR bought my own sedation pills to give her before the grooming. (Something my other groomer never asked or required.)
So there I am: paid in full (even leaving a tip); REALLY choppy, incomplete cut that had not been rinsed; Almost an HOUR AND A HALF over the first estimated THREE hours; and a groomer telling me to bring her back in (having to pay for the sedation) in a couple weeks to fix the cut at «no charge.»
As I said in my quick version: «I will NEVER be returning.»
This groomer should not be allowed to call herself an expert on cat grooming. I now have to set up another appointment with my other groomer to fix what she did.

The front off staff is incompetent. «Um, um well, I think I need my office manager. To set an appointment. Can you call back like Monday?» My cat could do a better job.

First and foremost I am extremely happy with Dr. Heidi and her other esteemed colleagues. I have issues with the front office staff. I’ve been going here off and on for the past decade. The reception staff don’t appear to stay very long. They often appear either overworked, disorganized or lack adequate training to perform their jobs effectively. I can recall on more than one occasion waiting as receptionist casually chat with «regulars». I understand customers are important and want to feel special but at what cost to others? Today the disorganization was very pronounced as techs would enter the exam room looking for someone repeatedly? We had to pay several hundred dollars as a down payment and was told to expect news later in the afternoon. We live an hour away and opted to stay in town. We returned about the the time the said we’d expect a call and once again we waited… And waited… Waited some more until someone asked if we had been helped? This was the same person that took our five hundred dollars four hours earlier and she didn’t recognize us? In talking with her we felt as we were intrusive and should have felt grateful the vet was able to squeeze in this emergency procedure! Not only were we shocked but also disgusted! We’ve trusted them with our pets for an extended period, drove an hour to them and told they were really busy and expect a call later in the evening? Would it have been easier to tell us there could complications and expect to pick up our dog tomorrow? The right hand doesn’t know what the left is doing. I will be researching for a new vet in the Medford area vs. deal with the SNAFU of this place.
