I can’t say enough good things about Kelly’s Automotive. My son was returning to college after the holiday break (driving from Sacramento to Portland) when he broke down on Hwy 5 at night. Caveman Towing knew Kelly’s would be the only shop open Saturday morning, so he dropped the car there. I left a ‘worried mom’ voice mail for Kelly’s and got a prompt call back the next morning. After explaining that my kid had to get to Portland in time for classes to start on Monday, Dave pulled out all the stops to get the car checked out quick. Of course, the part we needed was not standard and nowhere to be found in Grant’s Pass. Dave Kelly tracked it down and even talked a young man at an auto shop in Medford into driving it up. By mid afternoon, my kid was back on the road to Portland. The customer service was amazing. It felt like a family friend was taking care of my son, which is huge when I’m 7 hours away. Dave even called the next day to make sure my son got home safe and sound!
The world needs more family run businesses like Kelly’s Automotive!

Dave Kelly helped me out in a pinch when mice had eaten through wires in my engine. Dave overheard that I had called for a tow truck, and offered to help. Mind you, this was on a Sunday morning when nothing was open in Grants Pass and I would probably have had to wait until Monday to get help. He opened up his shop and in no time had the wires fixed and error codes reset. I am very grateful to Dave to have fixed my car.

We limped in at 5:30 off the interstate with a dead alternator, 5 people and a job to be at the next morning in Salem. We swallowed hard and enterered Kelly’s… Doug the writer took control, held a tech over, ordered part before we even told him our name so we could have it NOW! at 6:20 we were on the road with a new alternator and a amp gauge reading 14 volts.
The whole place made us their priority, absolutely first rate. Prices were fair too. These guys paid it forward on this day. We are so grateful and want them to know how much we appreciated all their help.

While starting out our first leg of our 10 day road trip our VW Vanagon’s starter went out and we were desperate to find a shop that could fix it quick! We got towed to Kelly’s mid-​day Friday and by 10 am the next day we were back on the road. They were SO accommodating. They offered to let us camp on site (we opted for the hotel across the street). It was the first Friday of the month and the downtown are has a street fair, to which they drove us. and to top it all of they gave us a AAA discount!

Another story of overheating on Grant’s Pass, headed north, up the mountainside. This one has a happy ending though…
I got a tow back to the town of Grant’s Pass, Oregon, and into Kelly’s parking lot with expectations of being turned upside down and shaken for every penny in my shallow pockets. I was in for a surprise.
My car was immediately pulled in to the garage and given a look-​see. Within a few minutes I was given a diagnosis and estimate of time. I was preparing myself to spend the night and just add a day to my trip considering it was late in the afternoon and the part still had to be ordered and delivered.
Instead, I watched and waited as employees went about their closing procedures and were sent home. The owner and a couple of his mechanics were still working on my car, making sure I was able to get back on the road that same day.
The staff at Kelly’s took extra care to turn a stressful situation into a positive one.
That was the best experiences in an auto shop in a «small town on the way somewhere else» that I have ever had.

Driving back to California from the Oregon Sand Dunes I lost power coming down the steep grades of Grants Pass on Interstate 5. It was a Saturday afternoon around noon that I found Kelly’s Automotive open and Doug (Service Advisor) was a true help. Though they couldn’t get to the vehicle for service until Monday I had a trailer of toys in tow and they assured me that they would look after my trailer. Doug even called a local car rental place so I could continue home to California on Saturday. Doug kept me in the loop on Monday, Tuesday and a rebuilt transfer case was installed and I had the vehicle and trailer home by Wednesday evening. I thank them so much for their phone call updates and just great customer service that they provided to me as a vacationer «just passing through».

My wife took her SUV here when she heard a CLUNKING sound underneath. They «inspected» the car, changed the oil, and sent her on her way. The next day her drive line fell off. Enough said.

I took my car in for a 60,000 mile service. The front desk was courteous and thorough. The car runs well, but it was running OK before I took it in, so it’s hard to notice a difference. I was happy that they offer an «eco» oil change… basically a partially synthetic oil that replaces some of the petroleum normally used. It costs a bit more, but it’s worth it to me. They didn’t call when the car was finished, so it was nearly closing time before I finally called them and they said they were short staffed and just hadn’t called me. FYI, if you mention that I recommended them, you’ll get 10% off labor charges… and so will I! It’s a nice family atmosphere at the place.

What a life saver! On a road trip from Los Angeles to Whistler, BC we discovered from passerby’s on the highway that something was definitely wrong with our car. Honking, waving us down, they informed us that heavy black smoke was blowing out from under our car. Although we were disappointed in having to be towed 27miles back in the direction we had come from (continuing north would have been 40 miles), we were taken to Kelly’s where we were immediately given the attention we needed. Their concern, honesty, and helpfulness calmed our apprehension of having to make decisions with people we did not know we could trust. The mechanical diagnosis by the owner, Mr. Kelly, was precise and exact with the logistics of taking care of the problem (having to spend the night for the delivery of the part) was simplified by their care and generosity. All in all, we were back on the road within 24 hrs. We had a wonderful trip traveling over two thousand miles with no problems after their labor. Thank You to everyone at Kelly’s Automotive! It is clear that they can be trusted and that they will treat you fairly.

Our Van had broken down in Grants Pass. The brakes useless. We arrived around 130P in the afternoon, and had to attend our childrens play in Portland the next day, or never be forgiven by them! The people at Kelly’s drained the brake lines, found a broken part that connects the brakes to the controls. A VW westfalia, they had to call and have a part welded for us. By 630 PM. It was finished and we were on our way. They went the extra mile to save our family trip. Thanks Kelly’s! Its moments like these that make the human race seem worth knowing.

On the first day of our family camping trip, we discovered a big pool of antifreeze under our ’98 Jeep Cherokee. After seeing a good review for Kelly’s Tool Box on Unilocal,we slowly drove into Grants Pass and had our fears confirmed — we had a radiator leak. We were supposed to continue driving to the coast the next day, so we figured we would have to change our plans.
Dave Kelly and his wonderful staff saved our vacation. Within the same day, we had a new radiator and the Jeep was ready to go again. The people at Kelly’s are fair and honest and didn’t try to sell us extra repairs. We were in a bad situation and they really could have gouged us, but instead we got a fair price and excellent quality work. Dave personally stayed late to finish the work on our car, and patiently showed us what he had done. Kelly’s also has a comfortable waiting room and suggestions for local places to take the kids, so we actually had fun in Grants Pass while the repairs were taking place.
I wish we lived closer so we could bring our cars here for everything. Kelly’s did a great job for us. If we could give them more than 5 stars, we would.

I would not take my vehicles back to this place. Beware, they did a brake job on the front of my commercial truck, front only in the tune of approx. $ 650. After 100 miles the brakes are burning up! I take it back to them… their re-​inspection was a flashlight thru the wheel. The so called mechanic says we could try new calipers, that may fix it. Now why would’t they have checked the calipers when they were doing the $ 650 brake job in the first place. A true brake
man would have known how to do the brake job in the first place. Not guess at it
