Shilo Inn Hotel Grants Pass

I rate a 4 star mainly because of the age of the hotel. I know they can’t really help that but it is what it is.
The Shilo Inn is conveniently off the highway (I didn’t even know there was a whole town beyond the off ramp). They issue you a physical old key that gets you into the main door and then into your room. The rooms are non smoking so there is a bunch of people smoking in the parking lot.
Inside the building it is old. We were on the second floor in room 218 and the stairs creaked and cracked all the way up. The room had an adjoining door to the room next to us. The TV was really old but there was a coffee maker/​hair dryer/​updated bathtub.
You can get coffee in the morning starting at 6:30a and the front desk staff is friendly. The price is low and «affordable» and there is a Taco Bell and Human Bean (coffee) right across the street.

Made reservations to stay here for 3 nights and could not have been happier with my decision. We stayed in room 225 which included 2 queen beds, a fridge, microwave, and flat screen TV. The room was located on the 2^nd floor and in the corner, perfect for those with kids not looking to disturb other guests as well as feeling a little more private. I would absolutely recommend this room. It was super clean and housekeeping was amazing. The continental breakfast included was plentiful and delicious with unusual selections such as breakfast burritos which were a nice touch and option. The pool was located outside and was very clean with pool towels provided. The kids loved it and at 8 ft deep on the deepest side allowed for lots of underwater games. The steamroom was wonderful and the sauna such a treat! The staff were extremely polite and friendly. I felt welcomed and the hospitality was much needed after an 8 hour drive. The only thing that could have improved our stay was the channel showtime which includes a booklet of movie times in the room. This channel out of all of them was the only one that had static and so our movie watching was somewhat annoying but in all honesty it is so slight compared to how awesome our overall stay was. A memorable and special trip! Very glad I chose Shilo Inn against La Quinta and Quality Inn. The prices were jaw dropping! Highly recommended!

We stopped here on our way from Yosemite to Portland around 9:30pm. I telephoned from the road to see if there was a room available & there was so they held it for us. Jan, the very kind and accommodating woman at the front desk, greeted us with a smile and checked us in. She gave us our AAA discount and upgraded us! I give her 5 stars! The room is spacious, beds very comfortable and the bathroom is very clean.
The breakfast buffet is great too. I’d stay here again.

We stayed here on the way home from Seattle. The room and bathroom were extremely clean. The hot water was anazing! Very helpful staff and a great continental breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

The gentleman at check in was friendly. The room was clean. The bathroom is small and the fan didn’t work well. Otherwise it was ok

This is one of the most dated hotels I’ve been in recently. The bedspreads are straight out of the early 90’s (and make me wonder if they’ve been washed since then!). The room was clean enough. There was a sugar ant in the sheets and another in the tub. Beds were gone and the room was quiet and worked as a crash pad for the night.
We don’t do hotel processed breakfasts, so skipped that. For $ 73 (includes taxes), the fee was fine. I find it ridiculous that if you have children along they want to charge an extra $ 10 per kid. So be aware. For $ 90+ this place is NOT worth it.
Would I stay here again? Nope. Too many other options around. Shilo Inns used to be nice, but they have all gone downhill and are extremely dated these days. Affordable excellence has just become affordable blah.

A little pricy at $ 92/​night (with tax and fees. Otherwise it was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was pretty good for a short order quick breakfast. Fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, waffles, yogurt (greek also), cereals and individual bottled juices. 100% improvement over the shilo– salmon creek in Vancouver WA.

A little on the older and almost outdated side. Hallways and room felt a bit older. Pool was great! Outdoor, but really nice! Beds were very comfortable.
Decently priced, and kids stay free. You cant beat that :)

We stayed here because my parents have a corporate account with Shilo Inns. The room was dated but clean. We were only here to sleep so didn’t mind. They have a nice continental breakfast with cereal, yogurt, fruit, frozen breakfast burritos, hard boiled eggs, muffins, danish, bagels and cream cheese, waffles, juice and coffee. We had several issues with the front desk. It was a pain checking in I guess because my parents had prepaid for the room for me and other family members. It got worked out but you think it would have been easier not harder. Then the 2^nd night we were there we were woken up at 12:30 am to someone trying to get in our room. Then 5 min later the front desk calling asking who we were and that this room wasn’t rented. I went to the front desk the following morning and spoke with the girl who had called. She apologized but then blamed the «new girl». I made sure she had us in the room and that were we not checking out. I was worried I would come back to all my stuff gone. She couldn’t find us at first and then said she had us checking out that day (we weren’t). She said she didn’t have a card on file even though they put a deposit on my card the first day. Eventually she fixed it and said she would have a manager double check everything. I think all the problems stemmed from my parents prepaying for multiple rooms under their corporate account and wouldn’t have happened if we just came in and reserved a room on our own. I think the rooms and location are good for the price. There is a big bear diner next door and a human bean coffee across the street. Many other stores and fast food nearby. Our flight home ended up getting cancelled and we had to come back for an additional night. Our room that time was much nicer than the first. One thing that was strange is that we left tip for housekeeping each morning and they never took it. No matter where I moved the money and even left a note it was still there when we got back. Hopefully they took it after we checked out.

only reason i out 4 stars is because there is nothing really around. but other than that its a beautiful, clean and quiet. Service is very respectable and private. Professionalism at is best. :)

We’ve made this our regular stopping point for our late-​start trips between Portland and California. After several stays, I’m pretty pleased with the value, service, and state of the hotel.
It’s not new and super modern, so if you’re looking for that go elsewhere. This place has brass-​key and tube TV charm, but is very clean and well kept for a hotel this age.
Super friendly staff, the breakfast is a «Continental-​PLUS» style breakfast and we have always had a good experience here.
Oh, and contrary to the other reviewer’s feedback, I think the pillows are juuuust right. I think most hotels have pillows that are far too plump, so I’m glad this place hasn’t gone that route.

Stayed here on our trek back down to Southern California from Seattle.
From the outside the place looked a bit worn, BUT we were not concerned because we were only there for less than 14 hours to sleep. I got a good deal from expedia, a two queen bed room, for $ 64.00. Front desk staff was nice and welcoming.
Room was just okay. Clean. Towels were fluffy, that was nice. Pillows flatter than they should be. No refrigerator or Microwave, but I could live with that. Coffee maker was old. Room needed a new paint job, but the shower head was awesome.
Continental breakfast was fine. They have frozen burritos in the mini fridge, so don’t forget to look in there. My son said they were okay.
My two star review comes from them overcharging my credit card by $ 24.00, which I didn’t know until I got home a day later. I have the receipt that says my room was $ 64.00 but they charged my card $ 89.00. Not too happy about that, and have filed a grievance with my CC company.
UPDATE: I was contacted by Veronica the motel manager and she informed me that there was a security deposit held on my card until we checked out. I was not informed about this when we checked in. Thank you for contacting me in a timely manner. And I upped my rating because of the customer service.

Clean comfortable and friendly service. I am very impressed with what I got for the amount of money I paid. Bed was comfortable. My car and room feel very secure. There is a sauna here!
The room is very big and incredibly clean, good free wifi too. Would stay again.

We stayed there twice this week and it was very enjoyable. Everything in the room was perfect but the best part was Katie at the front desk. She recommended things to do and places to eat in Grants Pass and all were wonderful. We’d stay there again in a second as long as Katie was there.

Clean room and conveniently near restaurants, Black Bear Diner is a few steps next door with great food BUT… For their rate I would have expected a microwave and small frig, nope and they didn’t even bother to tell us that the room they reserved for us hand neither. Continental breakfast was slightly better than some less expensive motels have, pastries, waffles, yogurt, fruit, cereal, juices, etc. There are other motels nearby that are about the same rate or less that include microwaves & frig. Won’t stay here again.

This is probably the best hotel of its class in Grants Pass. Nice front desk clerk — forgot her name but she was really helpful even though it was very busy. The room is clean, fairly recently renovated with nice bedding, soft towels and a big bathroom. The pool is clean and open until 10 (open 10 – 10 every day) and we have high hopes for continental breakfast tomorrow. Can’t beat it.

We have three children and we were driving from Seattle to So Cal after going on an Alaskan cruise. We stayed at many different hotels along the way back, not planning any of them ahead of time, just stopping when we felt the need to stop and sleep. Each time we used Unilocal to find a decent place to stay. In Grants Pass, based on reviews the Shiloh Inn looked like a good place to stay on a budget but also looked safe to take our children and car to. When I called the Shilo Inn I asked about a military rate since my husband is a veteran and was assured that there was a good discount for military. They also told me that they only had one room left and that it was a dog room meaning that when people have small dogs this is one of the rooms available. Since we don’t have a dog with us we really didn’t want to sleep in a room that smelled of animals and I said something to that effect. The lady stated that she understood and offered for me to come in and check the room out first to see if it was suitable. That was nice and going out of her way to reassure me. It also was smart of her to get me there and probably knowing that at 11pm I was tired and would probably say it was ok to get in to sleep quicker. When we arrived but a short few minutes later she just handed me the key to the room and said I could go check it out. The room was very clean and no smell of animals could be found. We went back to the office and booked the room. By the way on the counter they had a sign that honored veterans and clearly displayed that they had discounts for military! Very nice and more than most places do!
Shiloh Inn in Grants Pass was a great hotel for a quick stay over for 1 night. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and well appointed, and the continental breakfast was above-​average but the hostess was so friendly it made the breakfast extremely enjoyable. The kids loved it!
If we are ever in the area again we would definitely stay here again!

This is a solid hotel with the average upscale amenities and in-​room features. Mini toiletries provided, clothing iron, blow dryer, etc. I loved the warming light in the bathroom.
It’s within walking distance to the historical downtown (just under 1.5 miles) and near Black Bear diner, a bar, a coffee shop, and some gas stations. They even provide coupons at check in for discounts on local businesses (like Black Bear Diner).
If you check in with them on Unilocal,you can get 10% off.
The girl that helped us at check in was a little slow but showed more and more capability during our stay. We heard from others’ that she was new, so we were laid back about her taking a while to do what she needed behind the counter. She was very polite and offered to move our room next to our other family that was staying but we declined and were fine without moving rooms. We liked the idea of having 1 king size instead of 2 queen size that would have been the alternative.
The continental breakfast was nice, though we got there a little late. It closes at 10 am and we got there around 9.40 am. The new sign that states «new and improved waffles» got me excited even though I don’t typically like waffles. Ah ha, alas, the waffle mix was nearly empty so I only got a small portion of a waffle. Sadly, another guy came in and asked me if there was «a trick to it» since he didn’t get any after me. I apologetically told him I think that I was cooking the last of it. It tasted really good and buttery which made me think oh no, too much butter and fat! But what the heck, we’re traveling!
The sheets were really clean and the room was really comfy. Nothing high end, nothing out of the ordinary. We stayed the two of us in a 1 king bed room. All the rooms are non smoking in the whole facility though they do have places for cigarettes outside on the walkways to encourage outdoor smoking.
The movies, as of the end of October 2013 cost about $ 15 for new releases on demand. I think it was about $ 10 for regular releases. Needless to say we didn’t watch any movies for that price. We liked that there were some movie channels and were fine with normal tv noise in the background. We don’t normally watch tv, but liked that there were some options.
If we go back I’d be sure to ask for the same room again, we liked it that much. The waitstaff was friendly and the room was very clean. so even though the hotel is very dated with décor we were happy.
What else can you beat for such an affordable rate?

Decent hotel for the price ($ 70 including taxes for 3+1 folks: one 2 queen bed room).
Very clean rooms and no noise. Close to the highway.
The front desk or the building exteriors don’t look great, but nothing to complain on interiors.
Decent breakfast: no scrambled egg or hot items, but had boiled eggs, good muffins, fresh fruits, flavored yogurt, milk and cereal boxes.
Would stay there again.
