Established in 2008.

Area 51 has been the #1 Gamestore in Dallas /​Ft. Worth since late 2009. Offering one of the largest FREE gaming areas for hobby miniature and collectible card games. We offer one of the largest tournament scenes in North Texas for Magic the Gathering and Warmachine Hordes.

I have been involved in the gaming industry for almost 17 years. Having worked for a gaming manufacturer, wholesale distributor, and as a game store manager before opening Area 51. I have been able to bring a new type of revolutionary game store to the Dallas /​Ft. Worth area and now thanks to the support of the community we are one of the largest game stores in four states.

Was able to walk on in, browse a small comic selection, AND not get a word said to me by the oh-​so-​helpful staff. Nice. Love being treated like invisible trash by my fellow nerds. Kinda awkward when an employee is too busy on Facebook at the counter to even care to greet the customers coming in throught the door literally by the counter. Ok? Now im off to my usual comic book store, to get spoken to like an adult and browse figures that arent over-​priced. I see you, area-​51. Hire people that give a damn and maybe there’d be more than two people in the shop.

Update: Perhaps it’s because the staffer who plays Flames of War moved to another store, but ordering Flames of War items has become a matter of waiting and waiting and waiting. I want to give them business but I can’t and won’t wait two months to get anything, when I can get it elsewhere in a week or less. Staff is still very friendly and the gaming space keeps getting improved.

I’ve enjoyed my visits to this place. I love getting some Doctor Who items here. It appears a lot of gaming goes on in here. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
The comic section is decent and the memorabilia is pretty fair. Great parking and several events throughout the year.

Meh. The cluttered comic book selection was underwhelming – but I can see where Area 51 is a gaming destination. More than half of the store is dedicated to tabletop and card gaming space, plenty of room for several tournaments and games to be conducted. I guess the name of the store should have clued me in – I went in looking for back issues but really couldn’t make sense of their comic organization. A51 is a good place to hang out with fellow gamers, but your comic book hobby might not be as fulfilled.

Hooray! Area 51 has officially qualified for an upgrade in stars!
They relocated to a bigger space with much better organization. The comics area is defined from the super large gaming area, which is nice. They’ve also beefed up their selection of graphic novels and board games.
I’ve been reading the Afterlife with Archie comic and an employee was kind enough to give me the copy he had on hold for himself, which is some five star customer service. Unfortunately, another employee was trying to hide the fact that they had one on hold before the guy whose copy was on hold intervened, which is some one star customer service. Thankfully, awesome guy stepped in and saved my Archie loving day! He also assured me that he would order an extra copy from now on to ensure I get one.
Hopefully, they’ll keep skewing towards the awesome customer service side of things. If you read my last review, poor customer service was my main issue with Area 51. It still seems like you’ve got to immediately register as a certain level of nerd to be taken seriously as a customer by some of the staff, but hopefully they’ll keep moving away from being exclusionary and keep working towards being welcoming of everyone :)

Area 51 is just such an awesome place. They used to be located in a much smaller location across the street, but the store and the community associated with it just took off and bigger premises were required. The new place is open, awesome, and huge! Go in any time in the evening and there is something going on: Warhammer, Magic the Gathering, Heroclix, Dungeons and Dragons, Star Trek card game… you get the idea. Everyone I’ve encountered within, staff and patrons, has been extremely open and friendly. If you see something cool, ask about it, the people here love to share their interests and make new friends.
I am primarily a Magic player and there is a really big playing community at Area 51. Thursday are drafts and Fridays are constructed, usually standard I believe. A couple years ago, the store had one of the strongest, largest, and active MTG communities in DFW and I believe this holds true. If you are a Magic player you will like this place.
In regards to Rae’s somewhat arrogant review on comics, I myself do like to read comics and the selection here is about as good as anywhere else. Plus the staff loves comics and they are knowledgeable on a wide range of series, just ask! Don’t worry, they have plenty of graphic novels too.

Good guys here. They’ve gone out of their way to get me the product that I needed. The store was out of something that I was looking for and one of the employees had a copy at home. He rushed over there to get it for me. I can’t say that I’ve seen that kind of willingness to please from many other gaming stores in town. Big huge spaces, easy access to food options, and very close to downtown Grapevine’s other shops and restaurants. Great place to shop.

The best place in the Grapevine, Southlake, Irving area for comics, D&D, Magic, Role playing games and pop culture. The owner is really cool and easy to talk to. There is always something going here everyday of the week. If you want to learn how to play any type of game anyone there will be happy to teach you. This store is fun any day of the week. Stop on by and check it out.

This is the game store we’ve always wanted. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and committed to servicing the customer. They offer space to play the games they sell, provide terrain and are always very accommodating to groups. They keep a great selection of product on hand but if you need something that is not there, they will have it for you in a week. Clean, well lit and fun to browse.

This store was very very helpful for me. I was told by my niece that she wanted Archie comics or her birthday present. I didn’t know kids still read comics. I also didn’t know where in the Dallas area to go get them. I basically had been planning on going to Barnes & Noble and seeing what they had when I stumbled upon this store. They had a good selection of comics and different versions of Archie. They also had lots of trading cards, board games, some magic, and Yu-​Gi-​Oh. I truthfully don’t know what a good portion of the stuff there was, but was very glad to find it. The guy working there was very helpful and related to Archie comics explain the differences and what they were and what my niece might like best. In general I don’t have much basis for comparison on comic book /​trading card type store, but this one was extremely helpful for me. I definitely recommend it.
