I love farmers’ markets but this one was quite sparse from a vendor perspective, and the variety of products available was slim. Lots of duplication of efforts here. Some of the farmers had just one or two items in a basket. Maybe they were harboring the rest somewhere else to get the food out of the heat, I’m not sure. The prices were also steep in some cases. A baguette cost $ 5. Really? Even at expensive gourmet markets you will pay just a couple of dollars for this ubiquitous French loaf. The plus: beautiful flower arrangements made by a grower from the Frederick area. For $ 10, I bought a lovely bouquet that was in a canning type glass jar. It was stunning and it made my day. The other excellent display was a vegetable stand. The variety was impressive, and the quality of the products looked to be excellent. They had samples out, so we could taste the super sweet grape tomatoes before we purchased them. We also bought green beans, a sugar cantaloupe, and a large tomato. If I was local I would stop by on occasion but this was a 45 minute drive for us(not many markets open on Sunday), so I doubt we will be returning.

First Farmers Market that I’ve been to that also has stands for food! Shrimp in grits! Yes Fresh made crepes! Yes Coffee! Yes — I love this! And everything else that you can find at a farmers market, candles, fruit & produce, pickles, baked breads and pastries, cheese! A nice little setup they have here in a small community.

While your shopping for fresh goods– don’t forget to get a delicious crêpe or shrimp and grits! You won’t be disappointed! The bread pudding is super rich and good. FYI: They frown on dogs strolling through with you because of the food services, so leave him tied to a shaded tree– or sat in the car with someone.

Late risers and«after-church» goers in search of fresh produce will delight in the Greenbelt Farmers Market. Open Sundays from 10AM to 2PM, making it the perfect late morning, early afternoon stop. The Greenbelt Farmers Market focuses on sustainable, local and organic produce, meats, cheeses and baked goods just as you would expect from this sleepy little«crunchy-granola» hamlet. Highlights of the market: Firefly Farms Goat Cheese: Exceptional goat cheeses. If you are a fan of bleu cheeses, I highly recommend the Black and Bleu Goat(if available) Gunpowder Bison & Trading Company: Locally raised Bison featuring, chops, steaks, ground meat, jerkey and more) Calvert Farms: large selection of high quality organic fruits and vegetables. Zekes Coffee: Baltimore’s own Whole Bean Fair Trade coffees blended and roasted in a French Roast style. Many of the selections are organic. I highly recommend their Ethiopian Sidamo and the Royal Blue Roast for a deep rich brew. There are many other vendors, all of good quality. It’s always fun to meet the folks who grew or produced your food. The vendors here are true artisans and very proud of their products, as they should be. If you are in the neighborhood, this is a must stop.
