If you ever need glasses, contacts, or an optometrist, look no further than Oscar Oglethorpe​. They are the MOST patient, knowledgeable, and just plain wonderful individuals you’ll ever meet with. Caitlin and Rachel are especially phenomenal human beings; the two are so ready and willing to help you find a pair of glasses you’ll feel confident in.
If you don’t need glasses, you should go visit them regardless and hook yourself up with a great pair of sunglasses. A trip is always worth it, because the store is so aesthetically pleasing. All frames are $ 150 and MORE than worth the price.

Everything was perfect. The doctor is great. The staff is great. The glasses are great. And so affordable! I will tell everyone I know how great they are. The only bad thing is parking but there’s not much they can do about that.

I was on the hunt for a secondary pair of glasses, and both favorable reviews and affordable pricing led me to Oscar Ogelthorpe. Admittedly, I approached with considerable skepticism. The pricing seemed too good to be true, and the location (beside Triad Stage on Elm Street) vibed needlessly artsy. Suffice it to say, this is one time where I’m glad I was wrong.
First and foremost, the customer service here is excellent. I was able to walk in, provide my prescription and insurance card, and begin browsing immediately sans hassle. The staff helped me narrow my search and located a few pairs of glasses for me to try out based on my preferences. After selecting a suitable pair, fitting, payment, and, eventually, pickup were a snap. There were neither hoops to jump through nor last minute surprises. Everyone here is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.
Next, the pricing here is virtually unbeatable. Single vision glasses run for $ 125, frames and lenses included. For point of comparison, lenses alone can cost more than that at elsewhere. Of course, this raises concerns about quality, but Ogelthorpe’s lenses are anti-​glare, and I’ve yet to notice an appreciable difference in use between these glasses and my (more expensive) primary pair. Let’s hope that continues to be the case.
Lastly, the selection here is quite bountiful if a bit chaotically organized. Many eyewear stores will arrange their frames by designer or style. At Ogelthorpe, you will simply find frames of varying shapes, sizes, and colors hanging on pegs across the store. The offerings range from bright and gaudy to trim and chic, and though it may take a little digging, your preferred pair likely awaits therein.
One caveat: because Ogelthorpe’s lenswork is done externally, expect your glasses to be ready in one to two weeks. This wasn’t a problem for me, but if you have a more pressing ocular need, look elsewhere.
All told, Oscar Ogelthorpe proved to be both a great value and a pleasant shopping experience. If you are in need of new specs, see your way toward giving them a look.

I had an emergency eye situation on the Saturday after Christmas before heading back to D.C. and after wasting 40 minutes of my time at lenscrafters friendly center, Oscar Oglethorpe Optometry was able to take me immediately in their busy schedule to help me out. I can’t even express how great the staff and eye doctor were to me regardless of me coming in last minute, but not only that, it is the most beautiful eye-​office I have EVER been in! They were quick, and the glasses were only 125 $ INCLUDING the lenses! I have been visually impaired for over 20 years and have never found comfort like this at the eye doctor. I will definitely be returning here every year when I am visiting my mother’s in Greensboro for the holidays. I HIGHLY recommend this office to everyone fed up with rude-​PUSHY commercial eye-​doctor establishments. Such a breath of fresh air! They also shipped my glasses to me in D.C. which was VERY convenient.

Did you know you can have a really good time buying eyeglasses? I didn’t, but I figured it out thanks to Susie and the rest of the fantastic staff here. I always liked the idea of round frames but never found a pair that didn’t look huge on my face until my experience here. Susie gave me all kinds of different frames to try and paid attention to the details that complimented the geometry of my face. I was also hoping to eventually pick out some sunglasses. I was educated on the fact that transition lenses have come a long way from the jaundice-​rendering models from back in the day. I opted for that feature and absolutely love it. I also happen to love what they’ve done with the space. AND, the price was such a bargain, I’ll probably get another pair for fun of it with out waiting another 5 years. AND, I even got great recommendations on local places to eat both when I went to get fitted and when I came to pick up my glasses. Look forward to visiting again, you should too!

I wear contacts 99% of the time because I don’t like how I look in glasses. My current pair are especially hideous, so I decided to treat myself to a new pair.
I walked in unannounced and declared that I needed new frames and needed a LOT of help.
Katelynn asked to see my current glasses and asked me what I disliked about them. She also asked me all about what I’d like in a new pair. She suggested a few frames, I chose a few, and on each and every pair I tried, she gave me feedback. She helped me narrow my choices down to about 10 pairs.
Then she organized the 10 pairs by which pairs were similar styles. She also showed me the ones I picked that were like my current glasses and pointed out that sometimes we chose things that are familiar, even if we dislike them.
She thoughtfully guided me towards three pairs that were all complete departures to what I have worn in the past.
When I couldn’t decide between the three, she got another employee to narrow it down to two.
Then she took extremely flattering photos of me in each pair so I could see how I look in a photo.
When I selected my favorite pair, she gave me direction on how to make the best use of my Optical Insurance benefit.
The store is clean, neat and hip. The staff is incredibly friendly, warm and kind. The amount of time they spent with me is was unprecedented.
Every pair of glasses is the exact same price, which gave me complete and total freedom to choose frames that looked great on me.
For the first time in my life I cannot WAIT for my glasses to be made so I can go pick them up!

I have needed new glasses for years. Took my prescription here because I had heard so many good things about it from others. The staff here are beyond awesome. Friendly, complimentary, and extremely helpful.
I wanted to try something a little more stylish and funky this time with my frames. Within minutes she was handing me some of the coolest frames I had ever seen. I narrowed it down to two which were very different in style. When I asked the price I was stunned. $ 125! I went with both pair!

Never had such a positive experience with an optician/​eyeglass place in my life! Amazing staff, good selection, couture space, with prices that Walmart can barely touch. A true gem in the heart of Downtown Greensboro… Went in for an exam + one pair, leaving with three for half the price of my old lenses!
The staff radiates positive energy and helpfulness. They were proactive in verifying my insurance ahead of time and then immediately let me know (before I showed up) that there was a glitch with VSP. A quick call cleared it up, and it was nice knowing that when I showed up, all the details were taken care of.
The exam was straightforward, but the optometrist troubleshooted a long standing issue I’ve had with contacts (after having LASIK three times, I guess my corneas are flat!) The «behind the eyeball» test (I’m sure there’s a more scientific name for it) was kind of cool to view, since it does look like the glowing insides of a beach ball. Thought it was pretty cool that they even offered to email me a copy of it should I want it framed as an avante garde ocular photograph. :)
Afterwards, several staff helped picked out frames to try on, and I ended up choosing one that I probably wouldn’t have on my own. Will be replacing the lenses on my existing Dior frames for under $ 100 (a killer deal) and going back to purchase a pair of Rx sunglasses since the prices are truly a bargain.
You really can’t go wrong with this place… ten stars all the way!

This place is easy to miss if you don’t know where it is– but be sure not to miss it! I found it on Unilocal and since I work nearby, I thought I’d swing by on my never ending 5 year search for new glasses. Alas, my search is over! The customer service I was given was absolutely fabulous. The girl greeted me, asked me what I was looking for and let me try on as many pairs as I want, as well as picked out frames for me. All frames are $ 125 (frames and lenses) so I didn’t have to fuss around looking at prices– I just picked them up and put them on!
What I really liked about this place is that they have a great selection of eyeglasses for people who need smaller frames. I’ve spent 5 years searching for glasses that fit me AND won’t cost me and arm and a leg. This was the place… and the girl helping me actually picked out my glasses! I would never have picked them up myself but surprisingly I loved them! They were able to get my prescription faxed over and took my payment by phone because of bad weather. Awesome service!
Update: When I called a month later and requested an itemized receipt for insurance reimbursement, Kaitlyn was on the ball. She faxed over exactly what I needed the same day!

The staff and dr at Oscar Oglethorpe are awesome. I got really adorable glasses for a REALLY reasonable price and the eye exam was quick and used the latest technology.
I get tons of compliments on my new glasses and they were a steal for $ 109 and that included my exam! Really great place to go if you already know your prescription and want to pick up a second pair or if you are like me and use insurance to get the first pair and an eye exam.
I will definitely be returning here!

Great customer service and selection at an affordable price! My eye exam was pleasant, prompt and inexpensive. And the glasses were so affordable and stylish that I was able to get two pairs. If you have trouble choosing frames, just ask for Susie’s help. She has a real knack for it. Not only are the glasses high-​quality and comfortable, they’re all sweat-​shop free! So you can feel good about supporting a local business and ethical manufacturing.

This is a great place to get glasses, especially if you want a good value on glasses you can actually try on (rather than going online!). They have a good selection of metal and plastic frames that are all young and fresh looking. For $ 125, you can choose any frame and get lenses included. They also have a great one-​year protection plan for only $ 25! I haven’t found a better deal on glasses that I could try on before I bought them. The customer service was also excellent. I will definitely go back for my next pair of glasses or prescription sunglasses.
