The University Of North Carolina At Greensboro

My company started working with the staff in the UNCG Athletics department this past year and all I can say is WOW! UNCG is blessed with a dedicated team of individuals that have a true desire to see the kids excel in sports and in the classroom.
We have been very impressed with the determination of the team of people we are working with. The Spartan Club members are some of the most generous leaders within our community, I have worked with in years. A very unified group working daily to ensure that UNCG and the students have all the tools needed to reach their goals.
A privilege to work with Craig Fink, Tim George and the other members of the UNCG athletics department.

Admissions and registration process was made unnecessarily difficult by uninformed staff. Lots of incorrect and outdated information coupled by being passed around to different departments made for a frustrating situation. Of you don’t know or aren’t sure, please just say so!

Too big. Too little parking.

I transferred to UNCG at the beginning of what would have been my junior year of college; I entered into one of their BFA programs in the theater.
Now, if someone had told me my senior year of high school (I went to a nearby high school) that I would end up at UNCG, I probably would have started crying. Oh, the horror of going to college in your hometown!
But I couldn’t have been more short-​sighted (well, who isn’t, at 18). Nevermind that my three years at UNCG probably cost about the same as one semester spent at my previous (out of state, private) school, but the education I got in their theater program was absolutely top-​notch. The professors were, for the most part, experts (or at least well-​versed) in their fields. I still speak often with some of my old teachers! And the production aspects of the school are very good, and certainly rival those of NCSA.
The other departments and «schools» within UNCG are also pretty good, from what I’ve heard and/​or experienced. I took a lot of terrific gen ed courses in poly sci, literature, chemistry, and art. I did, though, take a few duds in philosophy, and a fashion studies course that was populated entirely by girls with skunk-​hair and fake Coach bags.
The university is also home to the wonderful Weatherspoon Art Museum (a contemporary art museum), Aycock Auditorium (a beautiful and recently renovated opera house/​road house), Jackson Library (a genuinely awesome library — I spent many, many hours there), amongst other gems.
It’s an extraordinarily diverse campus, given its location (I mean, who the hell comes to Greensboro, NC for anything?) and there’s always something going on — a concert, book reading, movie screening, theater production, etc. Nearby Tate Street is home to lots of neat shops and restaurants, and the College Hill area has a handful of bars and stores. Downtown isn’t too far away either.
I’m so glad I went here. I got a really great education on the super cheap. While I grew up in Greensboro and sort of hated being still in Greensboro at the age of 23, it ended up being worth it.
One major downside, though? SOAR. Especially if you’re a transfer student going into a specific program. You pretty much have to do your own research as to what courses you need to get into for your first semester — the SOAR people, bless them, will probably have no idea.

I went here for undergrad and I had such a great experience, minus 2 of the roommates I had who became sudden haters overnight. Well, that means I did something right ;)
This university is very diverse for one that is in the south. Yes, I said it. There were always events going on, the apartments on campus are really nice, convenience stores the best on campus ones I’ve seen, the financial aid office was top notch, and the teachers I had were personable and I was able to talk to them and they didn’t have a God complex when they had Ph. D’s.
I have nothing but 85% good memories about college & made great friends I will have for life.
The city of Greensboro itself? Meh. VERY little nightlife, eateries, and events compared to NYC. But if you’re with people who you can have fun with regardless, the surrounding area is an added bonus OR an obstacle that you will tackle.
