New to the area, I went to Dr. Johnson and had a nice initial appointment and cleaning. My husband (regular dentist visitor, son of a retired hygienist) went to Dr. Johnson for the initial appointment as well. Imagine our surprise when he, a man in his 20s, was diagnosed with periodontal disease, and needed $ 10K of dental work, when his appointment just six months prior he got a clean bill of health. How could a healthy young man with good dental hygiene go from healthy gums to the final stage of gum disease in the span of just six months, you ask? A second and third dentist couldn’t tell us either.
The third dentist did the periodontal charts (poking the gums, reading the numbers) twice, just in case. After a very thorough review of his medical history, x-​rays, etc., it just didn’t add up to any type of gum disease, let alone periodontitis. He got a clean bill of health from both dentists. The price of two more initial appointments was far, far less than the $ 10K bill for cleaning and care Dr. Johnson insisted was needed. It appears, based on both his previous dentist and two subsequent dentists, that this wasn’t just a «not quite the right diagnosis,» it was just dead wrong. «Scam» seems to suggest something very sinister going on in the office, so I think of my husband as a victim of shoddy assessment and poor dentistry. I wouldn’t go to a cardiologist who can’t diagnose a healthy heart from heart disease or a heart attack, and I won’t go to a dentist who can’t tell healthy gums from gingivitis or periodontal disease.
If you are still interested in going to Dr. Johnson’s office after reading this review and others on sites that are NOT the Google reviews attached to their personal patient response service, I think you will appreciate the friendly staff, bedside manner, the quiet and comfortable rooms, the TVs with cable channels in the patient rooms, the top notch website and equipment, and the Dr. Johnson themed grocery bag with Dr. Johnson themed goodies inside, including, but not limited to: Dr. Johnson themed pen, Dr. Johnson themed chap stick (I wish I was kidding) and Dr. Johnson themed dental care items. Just don’t think too hard about how they pay for all those premium perks.

Do yourself a favor and don’t go here. Sometimes I think it’s me being overly sensitive to situations that I don’t agree with, but in reading the few reviews here I will go ahead and put in my 2¢. When I moved to the area, I took note of this office that is close by. I made appointments for my family and after about 5 minutes of speaking with the dentist concerning my teeth, I knew. I, as many others have stated, have always taken care of my teeth and right after he informed me it would be about $ 8,000 to have the work done that I needed, that was that. I’ve been in this area a while now and finally I see, people are onto this. After hearing more and more horror stories about dentists and their practices, I recommend visiting a few before settling for one. The ADA may want to check into some of the so called «dentists» around here, they really give honest, hardworking dental professionals a bad name.

I understand dentistries are businesses, but this one is more like a scamming business. I’ve never been OVER-​CHARGED in my life for dental care until I came here. The front office people are nice to you until they need to squeeze their overly price fees out of you, then the become vicious. I’m not sure if the actually dentists are aware of the borderline financial scams the office manager is encouraging her staff to practice. This is the worse dentistry I’ve ever been to – be not deceived by the fancy office and the fake smile when you first arrive. I was literally told that I had some form of «gum disease» and I needed some special treatment. For the record, I’ve never had a gum disease as an adult, as I practice excellent dental hygiene. Well, I visited another dentist just to be sure and… voila…Stacy Johnson’s dentistry were lying when they said I had a «gum disease.» BTW, they were charging thousands of dollars to help cure it.
If you go on Google Plus, they have fake reviews for themselves. So despicable.

I have had regular dental maintenance since I was a young child. I was experiencing tooth pain and couldn’t get into my regular dentist. I hadn’t been unhappy with my regular dentist but trying to schedule appointments was a nightmare.
I decided to switch to Stacy Johnson and that was a huge mistake. The original tooth pain that I had was never fixed. Additionally, they did a «thorough» exam and discovered that I needed $ 10k worth of dental work. I supposedly had four cracked teeth that had never been previously discovered. I put the work on hold because I simply couldn’t afford it. Fast forward a year, and I’ve relocated to a new state. I visited my new dentist who told me that my teeth are in very good shape. I have no cracked teeth and need absolutely no dental work.
Stacy Johnson and his practice is an unethical practice. What they do borders on criminal. Do yourself a favor and do not allow them to even look in your mouth.

I absolutely DO NOT recommend this dentist. We chose Dr. Johnson because my husband has a terrible gag reflex and sedation dentistry seemed a good solution. He performed wisdom tooth extractions on my husband. During the process he shattered part of his jaw causing splinters to work their way up through the gums. We continued to visit Dr. Johnson because my husband was in extreme pain, soaring fevers, could not tolerate chewing.
Dr. Johnson was utterly «confused» as to why this could be happening. He threw painkillers at us left and right — hydrocodone, vicoden… and said we just had to wait for the swelling to go down, said it might be TMJ, said it was probably just a strained jaw muscle.
I’d finally had it and took my husband over to a local oral surgeon who immediately discovered the problem (bone splinters) with a simple head CT. A 30 minute surgery and his pain of three months was totally gone in less than 24 hours. By that time of course, Dr. Johnson had completely depleted our dental insurance maximum and the surgery cost us almost $ 1000.00. Now one of the many fillings Dr. Johnson put in has fallen out. **Ridiculous**
I had an initial screening with him as well. One of the first things you will notice, as you enter the office and exam rooms, is that the whole place is covered with tvs. During my exam I actually had to make a noise to interrupt him watching the tv screen located above the chair… he had tools in my mouth and was just staring up at the screen zoned out.
When his admin called to try to schedule a follow up for me — I told her all of this and why we clearly would not be returning. She answered «Okay» and hung up immediately. For Pete’s sake. I probably should have filed with the BBB but didn’t have the energy after three months of living with a husband who was so sick and hepped-​up on painkillers he couldn’t eat and could hardly take out the trash.
I’m sure Dr. Johnson is fine for simple procedures and for folks who have tons of moolah to throw at unnecessary dental work. But if you are frugal and seeking good work for a fair price — I’d keep looking.

I pre-​paid for a cleaning and exam but then when I called to book the appointment they refused to do both on the same visit? When I told them they could skip the exam and just clean my teeth they refused saying they wouldn’t know what type of cleaning I required. Seems like an upscale scam. It’s tough for me to miss a single day for my appointment and I sure couldn’t take two days off just to get my teeth cleaned. Demanded a refund and that wasn’t a problem. My guess is that they ran a special and got overbooked so they started making it difficult to get in. Based on my experience, I would not recommend.

Very proficient. I’ve been to him for a regular cleaning, and he also did a crown.
His «bedside manner», or whatever you call it for a dentist, is great. He inspires confidence without being cocky. He has a good down-​home Hoosier friendliness, and I love his sense of humor.
