Went there with my family and it was quite good. I ordered the two-meat plate with dark meat chicken and sliced brisket. The meat was fantastic; moist and flavorful. The green beans are good but the mac and cheese was a bit runny. The tea was not muddled which is a feat in of itself. All in all a recommendation for this local joint. :}

Good brisket, very tender, nice potato salad, good pork ribs and the BBQ sauce is terrific

This place used to be a great bbq joint, started eating here in the late 70’s, seems like all places where the family lets the kids take over it goes to crap, serving sizes cut, prices go up, the poor boy here was a great sandwich, now the buns smaller the meats smaller an price is higher, sad to see it go down hill

This is our favorite barbecue joint around here. It’s a little more expensive than the«Shack» which is the next best. The brisket is good but the items that really set it apart is the chicken and sausage. We just gad them cater a party of about 25 around the pool. There was something for everyone, chicken, brisket, ribs, sausage.

Love ya, Mac’s. We visit Portland, Tx. once a year and always stop at Mac’s. The brisket is so good. Moist and smokey. One of my favorites is the Poorboy. Chopped brisket, sliced brisket and sausage. Totally amazing and only 5.95. I love a well run restaurant and that is Mac’s. They are super busy at lunch and they don’t miss a beat. We were going to take a couple sandwiches to eat on the flight home. They packaged everything handily. This was all done during the lunch rush while we indulged in our departure lunch. Keep it up. You have a winning formula.

I grew up in Portland in the 80s and 90s so I have fond memories of Mac’s. I haven’t visited in more than 10 years but my memories did not hold up with today’s outing. The ribs were truly fantastic, get this and pass on the rest. The sausage was good, but nothing mind blowing. Brisket was moist, but uninteresting. Sauce was thin and uninspired. The sides were the biggest disappointment. Tasted as if they were out of a can or a box. Mac’s will live on in my memory as once having fine Q, sadly no longer available.

This restaurant isn’t quite what it used to be. Mac’s is a local icon and the local competition doesn’t quite stack up in flavor. The recipes haven’t changed but the quality of the cuts has, drastically. I used to take any visitor to this area to eat there, now I bypass it completely. The staff apparently doesn’t care about how much fat is being left on the brisket or the«doneness» of the chicken. The last few times I have been there they have run out of their signature meats way to early. That is a management problem. The competition in the area is increasing and I would think that Mac’s would step up their game. They have not. This restaurant has a very loyal base and caters a lot. That may be where their focus lays. I’d like to see an improvement in quality control before I start up my regular business again.

We tried the two meat plates, my wife had the sausage and brisket and i had the ribs and brisket. The pinto beans were really good and the brisket, the ribs were good too.

The place to go for great BBQ in the area or on the way to Corpus or Port Aransas. They have it all — ribs, brisket, sausage, chicken and all kinds of sides. Yummy cobblers for dessert. Eat in or take out. Possibly our favorite restaurant ever.
