Oh Sweet Jesus — how did the Powers That Be manage to screw up a public pool to this degree? My visit there left me nauseous…
Normally this is no where near our neck of the woods, but the 3 Musk-​A-​Teers swim on a team and they had a meet there last Saturday. We trekked up to North/​Northeast PDX at 0800 on a Saturday morning. It was not an ideal set up, to say the least.
This is an indoor pool which may be fine in blizzard-​like conditions, but was just plain miserable in the summer. The stench of pool chemicals was coming on strong like a jack boot across the nostrils. The temperature was being kept at a ‘balmy’ 92 degrees. There were very few places to sit for parents, and the pool is small. I would not want to swim in this water! In addition to these details, the coach would not allow anyone to prop open the doors for fresh air — it would cause the thermostat to kick in & raise the temperature even more. Clearly a flaw in the design & engineering.
We placed in a few events & got the heck out of there. I will not be returning unless under duress, or another swim meet…
