Companion Pet Clinic

I have heard bad things about this chain but a friend recommended them so I went. There was a 2 hr wait to begin with which I was understanding about as it was the day after a holiday. When I finally got in to see the doctor, he was very rude and treated me like I was an idiot for asking questions to clarify. I worked for a vet in the past so I know a little more than the average person. My dog had a paw and ear infection so she needed her paws and ears cleaned and medicated. Doctor Kohler refused to do those simple tasks without putting my 11 year old dog under sedation! It is very unhealthy and risky to put a senior dog under anesthesia or sedation. I have never had a vet ask for that. Usually they use a local anesthetic on the affected area and hold the dog. I felt like I wasted my time and money on this place. I will never go back and will tell everyone to avoid it in the future.

The office manager is very rude, and should not be in contact with people. The other receptionist follows her lead. The actual vetinary care wasn’t quite up to par with what I’ve experienced elsewhere. However my real problem is receptionist not reading paperwork in front of her, not providing what was recommended, then being inconsiderate, and shockingly rude. Thought I should add, I only posted this after calling the business owner, who said he would speak with his office manager to hear her side. How can you expect decent people skills when the person in charge is the problem?

This place is more affordable, but you get what you pay for. The customer service is lacking; after taking my kitten there and getting his first round of shots and neutered, I was not impressed with the customer service and didn’t like the overall feel of the place. I was further unimpressed when they reported me to Multnomah county for having an unlicensed pet since they gave him his rabies shot, but they didn’t have the common courtesy to remind me I would need to license my new pet. I decided I would pay more and find some place a little better. Glad I did.
I failed to remember the second round of shots for my kitten and I am disappointed that I was never prompted to make an appointment for the second round of shots (which I would have done) and I didn’t receive a reminder call from them either.
In comparison Wildwood Animal Hospital called me two weeks after my appointment to check and see if the symptoms my cat had been experiencing had gotten better and to remind me that I had planned on bringing him in to get up-​to-​date vaccinations, which includes both rounds of leukemia and distemper vaccinations since he didn’t get the second round of those the first time. They seriously dont deserve a star. They are the worst company that i have EVER had to deal with. They are scam artists and i am shocked they havent been shut down by the state. I have never delt with such assholes in my life. They steal your money and then try to blame other business for their mistakes. I would think twice before dealing with these ignorant losers.

Best vet I have ever taken my dog to. I’ve moved frequently since I’ve had my dog. She has been to 4 different vets in her 5 years. Companion Pet of Gresham treats their animal patients like royalty. Their pricing is by far the best out of everyone in the area. You can walk in and get all the normal shots and an exam and be walking out in an hour. The staff is so friendly. I BY FAR RECOMMEND THEM OVER ANYONE IN THE AREA! Thank you for always caring and taking care of my dog.

I agree with other reviews that the old clinic on the other side of Powell was my regular clinic but this clinic is nowhere near as customer-​care oriented.
I have a dog with a condition being treated at OSU vet hospital and that vet needed to rule out a urinary tract infection prior to prescribing a medication long distance. I have gone to another vet (Mt. View, Vancouver) who took the test, charged reasonably and had results. This vet refused the simple urinalysis and said my dog must also have another test in addition for $ 240 more dollars. She said a regular urinalysis cannot give as good of results. She refused to perform the simple test even to rule out a simple urinary infection unless I agreed to another $ 240 test.
When I had come in I had asked if I could get a urinalysis done and was told yes. By the time I left I still had to pay the exam cost, but the vet was more interested in the additional charges then ruling out the urinary infection. So, I went to another vet who did it for much less than $ 100 — but still had to pay companion for the office visit.
I learned my lesson now that I have seen two other vets that can do it, but apparently not companion!

Have always had good service… Always kind and reassuring. Explain everything very well! Check prices and discuss before they do anything.

I have been bringing my two cats here for the last 6 years or so and have never been disappointed. Their prices are reasonable and their staff is friendly. I’ve never felt like I was pushed to purchase tests and medications that I don’t need, like I have at other vet offices. This weekend, I had to have my 14 year old cat put to sleep after she was diagnosed with cancer. I was terrified, as I have never had to have an animal euthanized before. The whole staff was kind and sensitive throughout the entire process and I can’t thank them enough.

The worst veterinary experience I have EVER had. I brought in my elderly mother’s little dog to get fixed. When I arrived, I let them know about the dog’s medical history. I was assured by the veterinary assistant that it would not affect the procedure at all. Two hours later, I got a call from the snarky front desk woman, informing me that they could not perform the procedure without an additional 110 dollars because of the dog’s aforementioned medical history. When I explained that I already informed the vet about the dog’s medical history and wasn’t told about additional charges, she sounded exasperated and didn’t so much as apologize for the miscommunication. I agreed to the charges, but made it clear that I would be complaining about this later with the vet.
TWO HOURS LATER, I got a phone call from the veterinarian saying she was uncomfortable neutering the dog because I had threatened to complain. She had the audacity to try and manipulate me out of complaining by saying she couldn’t do the procedure if I was going to complain about it later! Did she think I was going to say, «Okay, fine. I’ll be quiet about your awful clinic if you just neuter the dog for twice what you told me?»
Maybe she was terrified of getting another terrible review on Unilocal? After reading some of these other reviews, I’m not surprised.

I bring all 4 of my dogs here an my two cats. Dr. Rieger is the best vet for my pets she knows them cares for them and always has great advice. All of the staff are great and caring my pets are never treated poorly. Thank you companion!!!

I’m not sure if the other reviews are written by competitors because I have never had a bad experience here and I’ve been going since they’ve opened. The place across the street used to a Companion but changed owners and then another Companion opened here (2454 SE Burnside Rd) which is the one I’m reviewing. Their teeth cleaning specials on Wednesdays are great and I haven’t had issues with waiting time or rude staff.

I took my cat to this clinic and the staff were horribly rude. My cat needed two prescriptions and their prices for the prescriptions were 10 times more than at a pharmacy, but they would not write a prescription so I could fill it at a pharmacy unless I paid a $ 15 «writing» fee for each prescription. This was after I had paid over $ 200 for visit and labs. The vet was rude when I questioned this and said she would not see my cat or write the prescriptions. I would never take any pet to this clinic.

Really disappointed. I am sorry to report my experience was poor. I asked on the phone for specific details on price and services, and even again in person immediately prior to my appointment, and yet was still presented with a bill TRIPLE the amount TWICE quoted. The front desk explained that it was my fault for not asking the vet directly for the cost of each conversation and detail during the exam. There was not a bit of kindness, friendliness, or compassion at any point during my interactions with the front desk staff, and they were distinctly uneducated regarding the services provided to the extent that I was given incorrect information that could potentially endanger my dog. Only upon extreme pressing was I able to get proper recommendations from the vet on staff. The vet & vet tech were fine, average is really the word. I would advise other pet owners to steer clear. The prices are appealing but the reality is this place will promise one thing and then fail to maintain their word. I only got routine vaccines for my pet and shiver at the idea of trusting such a shady place for anything more extensive. I should’ve paid more attention to other online reviews and not trusted this clinic.

I have never really been impressed with Companion Pet Clinic chains no matter what location I have visited. I have been to the Hillsboro, 185^th Ave, and this particular location. The one in Hillsboro so far is the best one I have been to so I will compare my experience to that.
Whenever I call this location for information they always act like they would rather be doing something else or act as if you are bothering them. If you do happen to ask a question they will make sure you feel stupid when they answer it (if at all).
Here is my in person experience with them: I walked in and there were two other people (dogs). I had to fill out over 7 pages of paperwork just to drop my cat off for a neuter. I felt like I was adopting a child or finalizing a lawsuit settlement. There were more than 15 places I had to put my signature on the paperwork.
Now comes the fantastic part. While I was waiting for a Vet Tech to be available to come take my kitty to the back room the people who were ahead of me dropped their dog off. The Vet Tech said for them to call around 2−3pm to see how the dog was doing after his neuter. Their faces turned white and they said «NO NO NO… he just needs his rabies shot» The technician seemed perplexed and became slightly argumentative like the customer really wanted a neuter and not shots.
Long story short I will not be back. I was in a financial crisis when I came here the last two times and I wont be back. They are not friendly, not courteous, and treat you like your stupid every step of the way. If you want bright smiles, courteous service, and safe care for your animals go somewhere else. But this particular Companion Pet Clinic is not worth your time. In a harsh ecomonic climate like now why pay people who suck money when you could help keep a business going that works hard for the money.
