History

Established in 1978.

Started by Two semi retired Ladies as the Gresham Book Exchange in the late 70’s. The idea of trading books for other books for a nominal fee caught on and forced the owners to move from a small space on first street in historic downtown gresham, to a larger space on 2^nd street. fast forward to 2011 when the current owner changed the name and moved the business to an even larger space on Third street, between Main and Roberts in Gresham.

Okay — I’m on the fence about it…
The Good–
*I saw lots to choose from.
*I found things for my mother, my daughter and myself.
*I like being left alone to look.
*I loved how local this place is.
The Bad–
*Cost was kinda high, even salvation army store is less expensive.
*The lighting and the smell were not the greatest. Although the lamps were helpful.
*The lady at the counter… maybe could have been a bit more friendly. (just sayin)
I will probably end up going back because I feel very strongly about supporting our local community and because it’s so close. I don’t like to give a bad review, so finding the good in everything is very important to me.

Honestly — not really worth my time.
If you’re an inveterate paperback reader, I suppose this place is fine, but:
a) The store is like a dungeon — dark and full of musty paperbacks
b) The clerk was boring and not very friendly
c) 75% of MSRP on a used paperback? Who are you kidding.
There is a little black kitten though. If I had to give a reason to go back, it would be that — or, if I’m despirate for a nothing ppback then it’s within walking distance of my house.
I’d’ rather get on the train and go to downtown Portland to Powell’s. Sure, it’s a long trip but in the long run it’s a heck of a lot cheaper.

For anyone like me who still still prefers curling up with a good book over a kindle, this place is for you! Great little used book store in downtown Gresham that deals almost exclusively in paperback books. It has a pretty big selection of fiction books everything from romance to sci-fi and mystery. They will allow you to trade in one sack of used books in at a time for in store credit. They will give you half of the publisher’s price in credit. The only thing that keeps me from giving this place 5 stars is that when you use your store credit they charge 60 cents cash for every book purchased. Granted it’s a nominal fee but kind of strange when you’ve racked up tons of credit. However, if it keeps the mom and pop bookstores afloat then I can’t complain.
