Antoine’s Famous Cakes & Pastries

Antoine’s Bakery used to be a favorite of mine when I was a child. The location on Freret was right around the corner and I would get donut holes from here every morning. Because of this, I was very excited to order a cake from here to celebrate my 1^st time hosting an event since I have moved back to the city. I ordered a 1 tier square cake with an image printed on it red. The order process was seamless and the woman taking my order was very nice. I paid for the cake upfront because it was a simple design, I printed the image and it should have been a piece of cake to put together (pun intended). When I picked up the cake, the image was not the same color as the sheet I printed, and of course they did not have the original copy of the image I submitted with the order. I showed them the omage on my cell phone, and the woman I ordered with agreed that the color of the image was incorrect. It appeared brown when it should have been red. There was no management on site to help. When management, Ms. Kim, called the only solution she could offer was to change the color of the flowers, but there was no guarantee she could do it. She it was 3:00 p.m. and I needed the cake by 4:15. I was at the Metairie location and she to drive to the Westbank, change the flowers and then drive back to Metairie. There was no way I would have had the cake on time. She was very rude and INSISTED that since they did nothing wrong, there were no refunds. It did not matter that the customer didn’t like or agree with the order and she said that even if I didn’t take the cake I would still receive no refund. Ms. Kim was very rude and dismissive. I have no idea what her title is. I asked to speak to her manager and she said she would talk to this person, but would not give a name. This was the worst customer service experience I have ever received. Its very unfortunate they treat their customers this way especially when they have so many eager to give them their business.

We have been getting cakes here for years but I think that is about to stop. We got a birthday cake this weekend and after everyone got a piece there was still half of it left and it slid apart. We were unable to salvage the rest of it since it was in crumbles and we could not put it in an airtight container. After waiting a few days to talk to a manager with no luck we will be throwing away half of a $ 40 cake because it went stale since it crumbled. All they will tell us is that a manager is not there every time we call instead of just letting us leave a name and number for a manager to contact us like a good business should do. In the event a manager does ever contact us I will gladly take down this review but spending $ 40 to only eat half of a cake is a big rip off to me I will never come here again.

Best King cakes in the New Orleans area, don’t let ANYONE tell you different! Taste like big fresh cinnamon rolls!

Yep. This is the home of King Cakes. You know in New Orleans and the surrounding areas everyone is always trying to out do each other on King Cakes during Mardi Gras season. And you can find King Cakes just about everywhere from gas stations to grocery stores. But Antoine’s is the winner in my book. The cake is so soft you float while you eat. :-) They have some mean King Cakes and my favorite is King Cake with cream cheese. Okay, its not traditional but its lip smacking good!!! I will definitely return for more! The only issues is their parking. Parking is extremely limited, however, if you do like I do and come early in the morning there is absolutely no problem at all parking. :-)

Uhmmmmm Yum. It smells so good in this bakery. We order all our bday cakes from here. Tastes fresh always. Live, love, breathe the lemon filled cakes. I am also still a sucker for strawberry and pineapple filling. The king and QUEEN cakes are decadent.
Downside:
I really wish they would sell chocolate doughnuts. Parking sucks here as well.
Don’t go in hungry. You might walk out lookin like McKenzies and smellin like tastees.

VERY DISAPPOINTED…
Visited the SEVERN location in Metairie. You are drawn in by the bright colors and your hopeful expectations. And as you make your selection, you are hoping for that right bakery taste. I got one glaze donut and a muffin the owner touted was great, a yellow cake pecan iced muffin. The donut was rubbery and not light or fluffy as hoped. Then it got worse. This muffin… DENSE AND DRY. So very disappointing, such a wasted expectation. This is why we have we have staples of confectionary standards, SKIP THIS PLACE and go to Twinks, Gambino’s or Haydel’s and get what your hoping for in a bakery.

Had their King cake for the first time today.
Traditonal large. very fresh and moist. Buttery taste and not too too much icing.

I wish to God I would have read the reviews!!! I ordered from these folks bc the person I was planning the party with insisted that I work with them. Working with this «Bakery» was a HUGE mistake!
I don’t want to waste anymore time telling my story.(because it’s too long) the bottom line is, consumer to consumer, DO NOT WASTE TIME DEALING WITH THESE FOLKS!!! You would get better service from Winn Dixie!
This particular company can not and will not expand bc they do not understand how the rest of the world works (outside of New Orleans’ cultural cushion) this place is «typical». It’s a shame because I’m sure Mr. Antoine has worked very hard through out the years. If I were you, I would definitely SKIP THIS PLACE!!! HORRIBLE «customer service» I would be willing to pay twice as much for better service. I sincerely hope that they pull it together but there is too much competition out here to handle people the way they do. Keep your money and your sanity and go somewhere else!. I hope that the owner reads these from time to time… I’m sure they don’t because if they did, they would have fixed these problems. Don’t walk, RUN… FAST!

So let me just say that I love cake! I think this place has the best cake in the city hands down. The service is hit or miss but the strawberry filling on the while almond cake is one of the most delicious pieces of cake I have ever tasted. The king cakes, cinnamon rolls, everything. I’ve never tasted anything from here that I didn’t like.

So this has a 3 star rating mainly due to the riot that nearly broke out while I stopped in to buy a cake last night. The bakery itself produces dozens of yummy pastries and cakes. For that I would have given them at least 4 and the service is typically on point. They also make fantastic king cakes but none were to be found last night. When I walked it there were two women who had issues with their cake orders and they were rather upset. The issue as I saw it was these two women brought 4 to 5 friends and family a piece as support and subsequently to create a bigger scene than necessary. Thus creating a chaotic and hostile environment that was pretty fucking uncomfortable. I was definitely not ready to make a cameo on cops last night. However, I was able to walk in pick a doberge cake have them add happy Halloween to it and remain unscathed!!! They really do make great cakes and pastries at reasonable prices

As a firm supporter of African American businesses, it’s very rare that I come across one that is so unprofessional on the bases of customer service and product. I ordered my son’s baby shower cake from here. Not only was his cake not ready at the time they said it would be when we cut into the cake it crumbled apart. A friend of the family stated that cakes only do that when they been frozen ahead of time. I was very upset they asked me to take pictures of the cake and they would reimburse me. I never got the reimbursement. A year later after my son grown older I ordered his christening cake from here. The same incident occurred again the cake crumbled apart as soon as we can started cutting it. I have not purchased an item from this company ever again. Even after contacting them and the actual manager to report both incidences they really could not care less. Do yourself a favor save yourself a headache and go somewhere else. There are plenty of other black businesses that own bakeries.

I ordered a cake for my sons birthday party. When I arrived to pick the cake up the very rude lady said they forgot to make the cake. I then ask for a refund of my money (since the cake was fully paid for) only to be told I’d have you wait until the manager came the next day. I have ordered cakes for 16years but the customer service and dependability has gotten horrible. Moving on to Creative Cakes

I have been going to Antoine’s since I was in my teens. Their almond white cake with that butter cream frosting is the best. However, I know exactly what everyone is talking about concerning their customer service. Thankfully I have not had a bad experience at Antoine’s, but I am that kind of person that tends to turn the other cheek at things like that. Among other things, I’m African American, and just simply know how to deal with my people.
Example one: I ordered my college graduation cake from here. It was a three tiered cake. My party was for 3pm Saturday. Because I know how my people operate, I told them to have my cake ready for 8am that morning. Do you know the cake was not ready till 10am. However, I already knew something like this was going to happen, but that was okay because I planned. When dealing with black businesses, you need to operate in cpt time. I went in Antoine’s a few weeks ago, and people were complaining, and getting loud about how their cake was not done for the time they requested. Use my tip above, and you should be okay.
Example two: I use to work at West Jefferson hospital, and Antoine’s partners with the hospital, selling cakes from the gift shop. One of the representatives for Antoine’s was passing out coupons at the gift shop to use at their main bakery shop on stumph. I believe it was 20%. Do you know that when I went to Antoine’s a week later to use this, they would not honor it. How do you not honor your own coupon? How do you claim you have never seen this coupon before? Communication problems within the business, obviously. Greed.
Example three: I went to buy a slice of cake. I walk in and instead of the lady asking me, «how may I help you?“She stares at me like I’m trying to steal something. I than apologize to her for bothering her, because I had a question, and of course she gets all apologetic and nice. You should have done that the first time when I walked in, not ignore me.
Example four: My mom went in here last week to buy a few things. When she got in the car she noticed that the girl forgot to put her lemon bar in the bag. She called Antoine’s just to verify if she left it there. The girl who answered the phone told my mom, «well the girl who checked you out said she put the bar in the bag, bye.“This is not how you handle this. This was very unprofessional and how it was handled came off as accusing my mother of stealing, or being dishonest. Are you willing to lose a loyal customer over a $ 2.50 lemon bar, really?!
Antoine’s needs to understand that it is just not about the cakes. Customer service is key. And if done right, could bring some serious revenue to your business. I go to Haydels, Manny Randazzo, and Creative Cakes all the time, and the customer service compared to Antoine’s is like night and day. There’s nothing wrong with hiring non-​hood people. These ghetto, uneducated people their repeatedly hiring in their bakery to work in the front are hurting them. Their full of hate, attitude, and prejudice. If you don’t want to be working in positions like this, GO TO SCHOOL, GET YOUR DEGREE. But please don’t make the customer suffer for your poor decisions in life. SMILE, GREET THE PEOPLE. UNTWIST YOUR MOUTH. STOP ROLLING YOUR EYES. WORK ON YOUR BODY ATTITUDE. STOP TALKING ABOUT THE CUSTOMER TO OTHER CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY TURN THEIR HEAD. It’s their money that’s paying for your paycheck.
Also if you’re looking for creative cakes with awesome designs, don’t waste time here. Antoine’s for some reason refuses to hire anyone with an associate’s degree in pastry arts, so their cakes lack in creativity. Go to Haydels.

King cakes are my weakness so I’ve tried many king cakes in New Orleans and I must say this is my favorite! It’s a moist, perfectly balanced king cake with many choices for fillings.
This bakery is right across the bridge so it’s still convenient to those living in the city.

Per my brother’s suggestion, I ordered a Queen Cake through Antoine’s. I should have read the Google reviews. Terrible, terrible, terrible. The cake was placed in a box too big for the cake with no additional protection or packaging. The cake basically folded in two and was one big dough ball. I tried to contact Antoine’s for 2 days. I left a message 5 times for the owner to call me back. Nothing! Every time I called back the owner was either «not there» or «busy» with an employee. For $ 70+ dollars, I expected MUCH better. Don’t waste your time folks… find another bakery (there are plenty in New Orleans).

My boyfriend and I make it a point to go to a bakery/​pastry shop everyone we go out of town. This place is the exact kind of place we search for! We ordered a Danish, a slice of cheesecake, a cannoli, a cinnamon roll, and a buttermilk drop as well as a queen cake to bring home with us. Everything we ate was delicious! The staff was very friendly (and patient considering how much we wanted to order just for 2 people). I am definitely making it a point to come back here the next time we are in the New Orleans area. The people who left bad reviews had a bad experience. But the quality and taste of their food would outweigh their reviews in my opinion. Totally worth it!

I love their king cake but i will never step foot into that place again. The staff is so rude!!! The first time they we’re rude i brushed it off but the next time i went in there, one girl was on the phone and the other one wouldn’t even make eye contact with me! I refused to buy anything and walked out!!! Management needs to help their employees with their customer service.

Such a unique taste with this baker. Gets an extra star for being the inventor of the Queen cake.

Phenomenal king cakes! They are soft & are iced with purple, green & yellow icing. Call ahead and reserve one or you may be out of luck when you get there!

I swear that my coworkers make sure that I get the baby in my piece of king cake several times each mardi gras season, because they know I always get my king cakes here.
They have an amazing variety of the least healthy possible king and queen cake options, including some with areas of cream cheese filling and fruit filling and then a kind of caramelly frosting.
They also always have great sweet potato bread and croissants, plus black and gold or purple and gold decorated pastries.
