My daughter brought us here for Father’s Day. Excellent whitefish. Half off sushi. Reasonably priced oysters. Very friendly service. Only complaint — the band was way too loud.

If you are looking for a real deal great feel of old Detroit, Dylan’s fills the bill. The charm and warmth of the rooms are like a old painting. But the place is very cool and up to date at the same time, a true blend of old and new. Not the bright and shiny fake new but real I would use that new! The bar small but just right for the rest of the place, it was a little tight the night we where there. But that is to be expected for s Sat. night, the wait for a table of 6 was about 2 drinks. The food was very good and everyone at our table was pleased. Our serve was very nice and did not rush us at all. There was a band the night we where there. They where good but may have been a little to loud for the room, but the crowd loved them. Remember to live well and to eat well, and please no chains!

not so hot 8 dollars for chowder c’mon…The sushi was mediocre and over priced. I ordered 80 some dollars worth of sushi, when it arrived at the table my sushi was seperated by lemon slices. really, lemon slices… every bite tasted like i was biting into a lemon. i dont think they were trying to hide anything just a very poor plating decision. not going back

One word to describe this place: Mediocre. We came here quite a few times, and I must say, after trying quite a few restaurants in Grosse Pointe — Grosse Pointe does not know food. Their food is overpriced for being average American food. The sushi is decent, nothing special and certainly doesn’t beat any good Japanese restaurant, but costs a bit more. The brie and fruit appetizer is pretty good — I recommend it. The risotto is bland and the blue crab nachos were okay. Overall, if you don’t have a Groupon don’t go here unless you really like average American food. Oh, and personally, I thought the music was way too loud to be able to talk during dinner. We screamed at each other for an hour over the loud jazz or whatever the live venue was.

Great good. Bands Purdy Good and C&J’s Midlife Crisis rocked last night. Keep up the great work!

After hearing good things about Dylan’s and seeing a Groupon for it, I decided to buy it and check it out. Took my parents out for dinner on a weekday. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it! The Good– Service, spicy sushi, oysters bigger than your head, beer selection, daily specials The Bad– Parking, it’s a little ghetto in the area We had a really great time, and even without the Groupon, it would’ve been at a decent price. We all had different dishes(lamb, pasta, and sushi), and everyone was happy with their meals. I had the spiciest sushi I have ever eaten there. I think the roll included spicy tuna, red snapper, jalapeño, and spicy chili sauce. My mouth was on fire, I loved it. My mother loved every single thing she ate and keeps telling me(almost 2 weeks later!) that she can’t wait to return. Some of the reviews say that the service wasn’t that great, but we didn’t have a problem at all!

I usually cringe inside when I see shrimp on a menu. A childhood favorite, as I got older and wiser that fun little stripe I often saw running down the center of my shrimp at restaurants lost all luster when I learned the true meaning of «vein». I realize that certain French and coastal-dwelling cooks would disagree, but my cardinal shrimp rule is HOLDTHEEXCREMENT! I also don’t want any funky coloration, mushy texture, runty sizes, or fishy tastes. I’m damn picky about shellfish and am willing to pay for it, having suffered a myriad of bizarre reactions through the years from chomping down sub-par seastuff. Tonight though, I ordered shrimp and chicken curry with complete confidence ’cause we were at Dylan’s. Everything I’ve tried from their huge sushi and special-laden menu has been fresh, well-presented, and well-prepared-one of the few places I’ll even think of ordering seafood. My tastebuds are so used to heavily spiced Indian fare that at first the curry seemed bland, but I quickly re-calibrated them to a simpler flavor palette that isn’t meant to be so ethnic. It was delicious-the chicken gristle-free, the shrimp perfect. Our lobster macaroni & cheese was a decadent treat served up bubbling hot. Sunday is(shhh!) half off sushi day! Try the mushroom rolls and ask the chef to tempura them for you. Heaven. Let me also sing sweet, whispered praises in your ear for the liquified bliss that is their«nuts and berries» martini-a sweet and delicious Chambord & Bailey’s-drenched treat. I always end up having laughs with and being impressed by the servers here, and their lower lighting and live piano music create a relaxing mood. The feel is pleasant and familiar-open and woody with tin ceilings and chalkboard specials. If you sit at the bar and are friendly, you’ll likely be greeted warmly by name next time you swing by. They’ve earned their place as a neighborhood favorite.

I knew this placed seemed familiar on the inside! Because it used to be a Tom’s Oyster Bar! We came in on a Sunday night around 8:00pm for a friends birthday dinner. The first thing we noticed on the menu? Half-off sushi! Score! I opted to start with a cup of the crab bisque(topped with fresh lump crab meat) which was amazing. As for the sushi? The shrimp ebi was delicious, as was the No Name Roll, The Rainbow Roll and the Dynamite Roll! I can’t speak for the mussels personally, but the other 5 members of our party really enjoyed them. The service? That’s another story. Not sure if our waitress was just having«one of those days» or if she’s normally so hard-to-find, but we had to track her down for almost EVERYTHING– water refills, tea refills, the check, etc. Kind of put a damper on the experience, hence the 3-star rating.

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. Driving all the way to Grosse Pointe from Clawson I expected a little more. A friend and I decided to do a later(8:30ish) dinner on a Friday night. Walking in from the frigid Michigan air while being greeted by a jazz pianist was quite inviting. We were promptly seated and both gazed over the menu of raw oysters, the sushi menu as well as the specials of the day. So far, so good. We both ordered an assortment of raw oysters, as well as the surf and turn special for the day, along with a round of drinks. We received the oysters rather quickly. By far, this was the best portion of the meal. The chesapeake oysters were my favorite. At that point our waitress returned with the news that all the specials for the night had been sold. We weren’t too pleased but we decided to go for the sushi and sashimi. For a restaurant that prides itself on fresh seafood I was a bit disappointed in the quality of the sashimi. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best. Overall, this experience was rather unremarkable. Maybe we came on a bad night. I would give this place one more shot though, if not for the main entrees then definitely for the oysters. It seems like it has a lot more potential then what it showed me that cold December night.

This will be a short review, primarily because I am posting it for the sole reason that I’ve not posted in a while. I tried out Dylan’s for the first time a little while ago, and I have to say I was impressed — though, temper that with the fact that my expectations weren’t terribly high to begin with. My friend and I were only there for a couple drinks and a little bite to eat, so I didn’t get the chance to review the menu extensively. All I had were the Blue Crab Nachos and a couple pints, and I was definitely happy. The nachos were actually quite delicious, though I honestly cannot recall all that was on it.(Also, I was unable to pull up the menu on teh interwebs, so I couldn’t consult it for a refresher course. ha ha.[pun]) The draught Guinness was poured acceptably well. My friend ordered a few different selections from their sushi menu, but the only thing I recall is the one that blew me away. Normally, I am definitely not a fan of the crazy rolls so many sushi joints have — Philadelphia, etc etc — but this one I would order again and again. The«Garlic Tuna» roll. I was so apprehensive about trying it that I steered clear until practically the end of the evening, though I immediately regretted that decision once I actually did try it. It was… indescribable. Were it fresher in my memory, I likely would have a more lucid description, but alas, that is not that case. Either way, I would strongly suggest it. Also, it doesn’t hurt that Dylan’s has half-off sushi on Sundays after 5PM. I’ll be making my way back there for sure — especially being within walking distance.

I’ve been fortunate to have gone deep sea fishing in the Atlantic with my uncle who is a well known Asian Chef in Florida. When I eat sushi, I only eat sashimi, and I know what real oysters from the rock taste like. So when in town and craving sushi, I tried this place. Oysters were wonderful and sashimi was good. Atmosphere was a nice mix, and prices are adequate. I look forward to going back and trying their other items.

Well this is tough one for me to review but here goes, got there when they opened the doors, I was holding my menu for 20 plus minutes! Finally after my server finished chewing whatever he was eating he took our order, informing us they were out of Lobster Mac n Cheese, Talapia and Perch. So I ordered Calamari(which was cuddle fish) rubbery, barely fried and COLD. The Spinach Artichoke dip had the texture of curdled milk with canned spinach, served with flavorless store bought baguettes. The Blue Crab Nachos were alright, nothing special, and the sliders were OK. The best part of the meal was the kids chicken and fruit cups. My oldest son tried some oysters and said they were good! Sunday is half of sushi, we ordered two California rolls, tasted like the sushi they premake at the grocery store. Think I’ll stick to Kona Grill or Little Tree for sushi!

I’m a sushi addict, so when I discovered that Dylan’s had ½ off sushi on Sundays(at least in January), I booked it! Since this evening is rather popular, you have to get in early. Sushi nights run from 5pm-close and are ridiculously delightful. The array of rolls and other offerings is amazing. This place is your favorite sushi bar combined with a steakhouse and seafood restaurant… basically having the menu the size of several restaurants. I will be visiting again, since there seems to be a different special every night of the week.

Dined at Dylan’s tonight on a whim as part of a group of 6. An experience that was well worth the drive for all of us, despite the bad roads and average distance from home /office. The sushi was well presented and delicious. the bartender skillfully indulged my request for an ‘Old Fashioned’ and our meals were wonderful, as was desert. A quartet was playing in the bar area and the likes of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and other greats wafted comfortably into the dining area, providing the perfect mood for the evening. Our Waiter Chris was attentive, patient and provided us with five star service. All questions answered, all requests met. We never had to track him down or ask for something twice. It was the first visit for my self and my friends and an absolutely perfect night out. For those watching the budget, the price is definitely acceptable across the menu. Thank you, Dylan’s — a great showing! We’ll be back.

This is easily my favorite East Side eatery /watering hole. Originally the first Tom’s Oyster Bar, the restaurant has improved greatly under new ownership. First, I love the comfortable and welcoming(but still classy) atmosphere. If you sit at the bar more than once, you will be almost certainly be greeted by name at your next arrival by just about everyone on staff. The pianist gladly takes requests, and patrons will often jump in with a tune. Jeans and Ts are just as acceptable attire as semi-formal cocktail wear. Then there’s the sushi. Dylan’s doesn’t have a huge sushi menu, but it is comprehensive, unique, moderately priced, and very well done. I never worry about the freshness of the fish. The flying fish roe with raw quail egg is a must-try, as is the zen roll. Keep an eye peeled for specials — Dylan’s sometimes offers half-price(!!) sushi on Sunday evenings. I frequent Dylan’s primarily for the sushi and the really well-made drinks, but the rest of the menu is also worth exploring — especially the appetizers. The oyster selection isn’t as comprehensive as it was at Tom’s, but the oysters are fantastic, whether raw or in their famous Oysters Rockefeller. This past week I tried the two lobsters(with steamed veggie and potato) special($ 25 on Tuesdays) and was very impressed.

This is the old Tom’s Oyster Bar. My in-laws treated my husband and I to dinner here on a Saturday night. We didn’t have reservations but only waited about 15 minutes. The space still looks like Tom’s, except for the album covers on the walls. We had some drinks while we waited — a round of 4 was $ 27 so drink prices are about average. They have an extensive sushi and appetizer menu. We could have made a meal out of several of the $ 5 appetizers. Instead we started with the artichoke tosca which was excellent. My father in law had the paella which he said was great and my husband had the lake perch which was also very good. Mother in law had a white fish which I thought was the best dish of the table, and I had a «sweet potato crusted tilapia» which was not so good. They was nothing crusted about it. It was like a heap of mashed sweet potatos on top of my fish. I was actually relieved when I found a hair in it and could send it back and have it taken off the bill(server was gracious and aplogetic). The sides were a bit off as well. The artichokes I had were great, but the potatoes were jsut plain boiled white potatoes — pretty boring. I’d give it another try — they had some other interesting dishes and all of the small plates looked good. I think I’d just order several and make a meal that way.
