We have been going to Brunch here and it has been OK… lady(owner?)was a bit rude last time… busboy dropped a dish and she was all mad yelling and customer dropped a plate and broke it. she was very flustered BUT Today our experience was awful and we had brought our friends who have never been .our reservation was at 12:15, they open at 11 and close at 2. never once was there a refill in the food… we then asked for more pasta and the lady went flying over checking all the trays like we were lying there was no more left… Also, there were no plates. we had to ask for more… clearly they r trying to stretch the dollar. no plates kind of hinting to us they are winding the brunch down. here follows a list of things we were disappointed in –no one at the carving station. at all –long time to clear plates –lunch food not replenished. minimal left all dried out –the chocoloate fondue was burnt and all chunked up… how can you dip stuff in that? –lady freaks out if you try to get the gelato yourself –barely any champagne in the complimentary mimosas **TIP** get the first reservation possible this way you get the freshest food… otherwise it will not be a good experience.

We went here this past Sunday for brunch to celebrate my wife’s birthday. First thing we noticed when we sat down were the dirty coffee cups. Some had lipstick marks, crumbs in the cup or just coffee stains. You would think the dishwasher would take care of this but I guess not. Nothing was said because only a couple people were having coffee and there were other cups that appeared clean. The food was pretty good, as it has been in the past when we went, however the problem was at the end of brunch. One of the people in our party noticed an ant in the water cup, and upon further looking it was actually two. One was in the water and the other was climbing up the inside. They were small. Then another person looked closely in his cup and saw the same thing, and then I saw one floating in my cup. Throughout the course of brunch I only had one glass of water from the original pitcher but the others had more so we are not sure if it was the first pitcher or all that had ants. At this point no one really knows how many ants we may have drank. The waitress came over with our bill and we pointed this out to her. We never asked for anything off the check, or made a fuss but she said she would notify the manager. A few minutes later she comes back with a new pitcher of water and 3 new glasses(we were already done and had already put the money with the check) — why would she bring us more, as if we would have drank any of it anyways. The issue we had is that she told her manager and at no point did anyone in charge come out to us to apologize or express any concern… maybe this is a common thing now at this place. Now I have eaten at other places where there were issues and a manger always came out, often offered a free dinner or whatever but I guess at Anthony’s having three guests find ants in the water glasses does not justify a manger or owner coming to the table. It has been a year or so since we visited and the brunch room seemed to be only half filled with tables so maybe the business is going downhill, I dont know. But if a manger cannot find the time to come out and address 3 people finding ants in the water then we will not ever go back. I can only assume now that ants in the water pitchers means ants crawling over plates and other things in the facility. If you decide to go, check the water pitchers before you eat.

Still not great. Not impressed. It has been over a year since I have been here. The place is still horrible. Bad service and the food is not good. Terrible service. I am surprised that this place is still around.

How is this place still in business? I’ve lived in Guilford for over 30 years and still wonder why I waste my time and money patronizing this establishment. At best, the food is average. Every so often it’s acceptable, but rarely. Shame on me for being so lazy as to not spend the time to travel to any of over a dozen pizza restaurants in the area that consistently blow this place away(we live outside of New Haven which is a pizza mecca). The key word here is «consistent» and in the case of Anthony’s «inconsistent». The problem is that this place is so hit and miss, it’s usually a miss. My daughter was visiting from NH about a year ago and she wanted a veggie pizza from Anthony’s. Against my better judgement we ordered one and I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually what I would consider very good. The next time we wanted a quick local pie we ordered the same from Anthony’s, hoping that it would be as good as the last one and were surprised that it was. We also asked the pie to be made thin and well done which is how we like it. Amazingly, they did as we requested. Since then, we’ve gone back at least 4 or 5 times, asked for he same pie, the same way and have been disappointed each and every time. Why do I do this to myself? The last time, before tonights experience, I looked at the bill and discovered that they charged me extra to «stretch» the pie since I ask for it to be thin. I’m frankly surprised they didn’t charge me extra to have it cooked well done as there was obviously an additional expense for them to cook it in the oven longer. Tonights experience may be the last straw. I was told to arrive at 6:20(arrived at 6:30) and was told that it was still in the oven. Waited patiently for another 20 minutes and had a pleasant conversation with a couple of equally unsatisfied Anthony’s customers. We tried to determine if the restaurants success is based on the fact that either Guilford residents really don’t know what good food tastes like or that they are simply lazy, just like us, and are willing to accept mediocre take out food in lieu of spending time in the car to go out and purchase real food. By the way, tonights pies were so under cooked the bottom was raw(keep in mind I waited an extra 40 minutes beyond when I was told to pick up the order). Understaffed and very badly managed. Not to mention the cleanliness is also an issue. Anyway, it appears as though there are plenty of other, equally unsatisfied patrons who have posted here on Unilocal and have also had the misfortune of eating Anthony’s excuse for food. Given the choice of going back, I’d rather starve. I think I’ve finally learned my lesson.

Food is average but really turned off by the dirty floors in the entrance area. Looks like the floors were mopped with tar! If not clean up front what about the kitchen hope they clean it up.

This was a tough crowd. We took our nana out to dinner. She and papa are 90 and her family ran a string of restaurants back in the 1950s. And there people before that. The choice of appetizers was limited /minimal. We were seated but no given menus until we asked for them despite the waiter having been to the table repeatedly. He didn’t notice. One table was so wobbly drinks spilled. The waiter was very good about bringing over some material and wedging it under a leg when we asked. The seniors ordered shrimp cacciatore but felt the pasta had not been well drained as the sauce was watered down and did not cling well to the pasta(linguine). The salads were mixed greens versus iceberg, which was another negative point for the seniors. They were out of O’Doul’s non alcoholic beer which left papa with nothing he could drink except water. The waiter did not read us the specials, but was very accomodating when we asked. Oddly, the soup special on Apr 3rd was corn beefed and cabbage soup… two weeks after St. Patrick’s Day? On Good Friday? The lemon drop and appletini martinis were more mix than cocktail. The buffalo chips were delicious. The garlic bread with cheese was excellent. The stuffed breads were excellent. The fried mozz was good. The sole florentine was delicious. The side of ziti was small but tasty. The cheese pizza was excellent. The baked scallops meh. Over all, I would have to give it a meh rating. Better experience can be had for simliar price at the Log Cabin in Clinton.

Enjoyed Valentine’s Day dinner during a winter storm here with a group of 7. Service was friendly, courteous and available. Food was average, nothing shined but also no major complaints. Complimentary champagne toast for the festivities was a nice touch. Interior was spacious, you never felt on top of another table. On one half what looked to be a banquet hall was really a beautiful spot. I feel as if this place would be really good with bridal showers and the like. Had to pull a star for my surf and turf dinner. Although the shrimp stuffing was good the steak was far too tough due to its very large size. But large doesn’t necessarily mean good. A smaller, marinated perhaps portion would have sufficed. It was a tinge to chewy even for a meat lover. The meal came with steak, two stuffed shrimp and salad. No veggies or starch in which I was bummed about. Overall I enjoyed myself here and my company. I don’t live anywhere near here so I can’t say I will be back on my own accord, if someone recommended it I would gladly accept the invite and just avoid the surf and turf dinner.

I was at Anthony’s of Guilford for their brunch on a Sunday. My boyfriend and I have been hitting every possible place in Connecticut with a brunch buffet. This one was pretty good. They had an amazingly large selection of food. They had an omelet/waffle station, which is always a good standard at brunch. There were meats and cheeses, including a cheddar(I believe) with truffles in it. Mmmmm. I love truffle anything. They also had smoked salmon, bacon, sausage, shrimp scampi, chicken, ham at a carving station, and a table full of cakes and desserts. Beverages were included with the overall price which was about $ 20. The waitress brought out a whole carafe of coffee for us and left at our table so we wouldn’t have to wait for refills. The food and everything was alright, but most of all I liked the service. Everyone was very nice. I would definitely come here again. It kind of helps that it is also the closest one to us too.

Just had a very bad experience at Anthony’s. Ordered pizza for pickup — showed up, they charged my credit card and then went to look for the order. They had never put the order in. I asked then to «make things right» — they were not willing to do anything except give me the money they charged my credit card back since«they were busy». Never going back there again — many other pizza places treat their customers with more courtesy.

Nice clean place. Ho hum — average. I was there for a meeting. Food was fine. Fresh, hot and not special. Lemon chicken had a good taste, but lacked and distinguishing features. Pizza appetizers were ok — again, average.

Get take out here fairly often… I would vey strongly suggest you check your food before leaving… Every other time we order they mess up the food in some way or another!!! They are less than apologetic for these repeated mess ups… Which is very disappointing. Food is good when u actually get what you order.

This place is so good! They recently re-did the whole inside so it is clean and spacious. The food here is very consistent. I’ve gotten the chicken parmesan a few times and it is always awesome! Everyone I know loves the veal chef– so if you like veal give it a try. *The only reason i am taking a star off is because of how insane our waiter was when we ate there. Maybe it was his first day but it was like he was from a different planet.

It started off on a positive note, seated quickly and prompt attention by the waitress. We ordered fried mozzarella and stuffed eggplant for appetizers. They were excellent, loved the sauce. The stuffed lobster special and chicken special were very good– lobster a little dry– but that is somewhat typical with baked lobster. Veggies and potatoes that came with the dinners were served cold. The Anthony’s baked special, which is meatball, sausage and peppers was a disappointment. Three very large meatballs and one spicy sausage in a dish with a little cheese. Generous portion, but taste was not so good. The biggest disappointment was the dried out cheesecake that was served for dessert. We probably should have sent it back, but at that point, we were ready to leave. The food service was very slow– kitchen appeared understaffed. The busboy was not quite trained — he tried to take away plates while there was still uneaten food, and people were still eating. Nice young man, just didn’t really know what he was doing… I would return, but might try the pizza — it looked very good and take out was quite the busy place.

We stopped for dinner here the other night for a pizza. Was not looking for much and that’s what we got. Pretty average overall. I thought the pizza selection was a bit of a letdown these days. Very very basic options. We went with the margharita pizza and it was a bit of a letdown from what i was expecting. It was loaded with way too much tomato sauce and not whole tomatoes. The flavor was good, but way too much sauce. The free antipasta was nice to start with. And the wait staff was so so.

I’ve been here a couple of times recently both take out pie and eat in off the menu and I have decided that it is only ok. Some people rave about it but I can’t get excited about the food. The atmosphere is very family oriented, I can say is that it’s fine for kids!

Anthony’s is superb. I’ve been going for years for all sorts of occasions including New Years Eve and I have always really enjoyed my meal. There have been a few not-so-good waiters and waitresses but only a few in the dozens of times I’ve gone there. Anthony’s at one time would have deserved 5 stars easily but ever since they got rid of the salad bar it’s just not reached the full potential. Again, great for parties, and groups. It’s just a great time. I can’t wait to see the place once they’ve finished the massive renovations.

I’ve only had the pizza, so I cannot speak to the other dishes on the menu. The pizza is good. Very good, even. But twice now they’ve screwed up the order, and that’s just not acceptable. A half-cheese pie is not that complicated a concept — just stop putting cheese on it once you’ve covered the first half! Yes, that means the Parmesan, too! Points off for being all the way on the west end of town. It’s not really their fault, I’m sure it’s very convenient for the people who live in that area.
