Very sorry to report that this established eatery has closed. Apparently family problems made it impossible to continue. We will miss you!

Dinner #3 in Gulfport/Biloxi took us to AnJac’s Barbecue. We always search for barbecue when travelling, hoping to find the local, hidden gems. Besides we had been eating seafood for every meal so far. AnJac’s is the kind of rustic little place that I like better than the big warehouse barbecue places. You order at the counter here and find a table in the dining area. Finding a table on this Monday night was not an issue, since we were the only ones there initially. Ribs were very tender with a good sweet smoke. In fact they were very well smoked. They were literally fall off the bone and I’m pretty sure they are oven finished or stored in some kind of cooker. They were certainly well flavored and were not stale tasting. I would say 3−½ star ribs, since I felt they were over-done. I know everyone wants«fall-off-the-bone» but that usually indicates some method of cooking(at least partly) aside from or after the smoker. The pulled pork was true pull in large shreds. This made it a little difficult to eat on a bun. It would benefit from a little chopping to shorten the shreds. It tasted good though and we did not eat the bun. Slaw style was sweet and creamy. The beans look like they came straight from the Van Camps can, but are jazzed up a bit. The potato salad was sliced red potatoes, not sweet, no onion. It was very rich and creamy and probably had a little sour cream in the dressing, not just mayo. We also had garlicky toast. All of the sides were decent. This is good solid barbecue, no issues and not remarkable. Nevertheless, I would return. I liked the good smoke in the meats and I liked the unassuming atmosphere. Solid 3 to 3−½ stars.

Delicious. My family came for lunch while on vacation and we loved every bite. Amazing flavors, everything bbq’d and smoked to perfection. Highlights include the pulled pork(or a roll or a po’boy), smoked chicken, and the shrimp po’boy. The sides were great too. It was exactly what bbq should taste like, in exactly the kind of place you want to eat bbq — a picnic table in a no frills room(well, ideally, you eat bbq outside, but I will make concessions when the heat index is in the 100s). The people are nice, the prices are right, and there is even a sink to wash your hands in before… and after.

Great pulled pork sandwich! Stopped on our way from Houston to Florida. Well worth it. Bread pudding is to die for! Decided to stop again on the way back to Houston. Delicious!

Whenever traveling the south I try to take every opportunity to search for the perfect«hole-in-the-wall» smoke BBQ house. Haven’t found any, until today. We just got out of a long flight and was tired. Had an appointment 90 miles away we had to rush to. But my family was hungry and exhausted, so I turn on the trusted Unilocal app on the iPhone and found this place just a few minutes from the airport. Was planning just a quick bite, so we bought just a brisket and a pulled pork«Po-boys». It was out of this world — tender, moist, flavorful, melt in your mouth, and the smoke ring evident was perfect. Other places, thought looking authentic from the outside, were serving either dried up BBQ meat, or … i believe just«boiled» meat with smoke flavor added. Not so at AnJac. Not sure if where the name came from, but the name has been around 54 years. My «short» meal turned out to be a long conversation with the owners because they were just so … friendly! Was glad to be greeted with of the plane with an amazing Southern hospitality. Oh and their sauce is perfect too. Now everyone has his/her own preference for BBQ sauce. For me, this one is it. Wish I can get their recipe and make my own. A definite 5 stars, and that’s pretty rare from me!

I grew up going to AnJac’s at the old location and it was one of my favorite places. I admit, last year I cooled off on the place due to a cook they had who didn’t quite make the grade. Well, I was hankering for BBQ tonight and went in and… NEWCOOK! It is as good as I remember as a kid! They have a couple new things on the menu to try. I had a taste of the sweet potato salad and it is a must. My friend who came with me is a private chef and has cooked all over the world for some of the«best» families and he was quite pleased with his meal. If you left AnJac’s due to the cook they used to have, come try it again. I did and am very glad. Tonight I had the pulled pork sandwich with bbq beans. The beans were smoky flavored and delicious. The fries were not limp, greasy. They were perfectly fried. The owner David was there and I complimented him for keeping true to the old AnJac recipes. If you go in, tell him the gal in the red Ferrari cap wrote this.

1st Visit: Dude… Coma-inducing Barbecue, Great Service, Awesome Prices. Stopped by to feed a military aircrew of 8 after landing nearby. AnJac’s was highly recommended by a local. Definitely surpassed expectations. We had everything: beef brisket, ribs, sausage links, fried corn, chicken sandwiches, dried okra, baked beans, mustard potato salad, sweet potato fries, etc. 8 meals ready in 10 minutes and every person was thoroughly satisfied. Meats were the highlight, but the sides were pretty good, too. I’ll be back for sure.

I’ll probably go back for takeout because the food IS amazing. But the atmosphere… not so much. No real complaints, just could be better all around experience is all.

Anjac’s ribs are smack yo mama good. I found it on Unilocal after looking for some BBQ and wanting to take advantage of being in the south. The staff is friendly, the prototypical southern hospitalible human beings. You can tell the owner truly prides in his product, giving us an entire run-down… ok, well, not the ENTIRE run-down, but a thorough discussion of his smoking process. It was a perfect complement to the best… yeah, I said it, BEST ribs I’ve ever had. I’m almost tempted to give them 5 stars but need to see everything else(beans, rolls, etc…) come up before I can do that.

I came from New Jersey to Gulf Port Mississippi and I have not had real good barbecue for a long time. So I Looked up Unilocal for good barbecue and ANJACS barbecue came up so my buddy and I punched in the address on the tom-tom and we found the place. As soon as we walked in the door the smell of delicious barbecue hits your nose. The young lady help me with my order and I had the three meat platter. It was delicious if you ever want great barbecue this is the place.

We ordered from the one on Hwy 49… We called in a pretty large order for a Saints playoff game. I was a little nervous, most of the folks in our group had not tried anJacs before. Ordering was a breeze. Pickup was a breeze. The folks were super nice. After not spilling anythign in the truck, we got to the man-cave and set everything out. It all dissapeared faster than free cupcakes at an obesity convention. Good thing I set a little bowl aside for myself… those ravenous noodle-heads would have gobbled it all up. Give it a shot, it aint bad at all!!!(Possibly a notch better than the Shed. EEEKKK but true!)

Their BBQ was delicious the 1st time, didn’t have the same flair the 2nd time around. Their minimal staff was very pleasant the afternoon we drove over. Can’t say that I’ll return anytime soon.

I didn’t have the BBQ, but a po boy and gumbo. It was ok. I wouldn’t call it phenomenal, but I would certainly go back. The gumbo wasn’t worth it, personally, from the gumbo I had in New Orleans. My friends had pulled pork and all liked it, though one thought it was a bit too sweet. Be sure to look hard for the place, it’s hidden away in a wear house or complex of some sort, and worth a taste.

This place has been in business for well over 25 years. They’ve moved a few times, changes ownership a few times and opened a few new locations over the years but one thing stays the same. That delicious sauce! When i think of southern BBQ, this is what i think of. Do yourself a favor, buy a pound of brisket with sauce on it and sauce on the side with a side of baked beans and you’ll thank me later!

(this review is for the AnJacs outside of Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, not the one in Gulfport) I went here recently when I was in Biloxi on business and had the ribs. Being in Mississippi, I was expecting some really good BBQ but I left here a little bit disappointed. I didn’t think there was anything that distinctive about the taste of the ribs or the sauce and I also thought their prices were a bit steep for the amount of food that we received. I can understand why the locals may like it, but I have had much better here in Atlanta. Based on the reviews I have read, I should have went to their Gulfport location and eaten there, LOL.

AnJac’s has some very good pulled pork. The potato salad is truly amazing too. I always thought they could get a more restaurant-like location and more main street frontage, but that doesn’t have anything to do with the food. Best BBQ in S. Mississippi.

Simply the best BBQ I’ve ever had in my life. I was recently in Houston and tried a place that supposedly had the best BBQ in Texas and it didn’t hold a candle to Anjac’s. I stop by there once every few weeks just to buy a jar of their BBQ sauce because it’s so much better than any store-bought brand. I love their pulled pork sandwich(The Porker) and their baked beans are the best I’ve ever had. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

I have to TOTALLY agree with Remy when he says «this is a one of Gulfport’s hidden gems when it comes to BBQ» NOJOKE! Pulling up to AnJac’s I was thinking to myself«oh brother, this is going to be interesting» it really did look like just a carry out BBQ place. Was happy to find seating off to the right, and the service was EXCELLENT. Food was equal to the service. Oh and can you say twice baked potato? Oh yeah! I’m in love. Sure wish it was closer to home but will definitely take the drive to fill my BBQ desires here

I dream about this place and compare all other BBQ joints to Anjacs. I started coming here as a very small girl, and I made it a point to visit every time I came back to Gulfport from my world travels. I’m so glad it survived Katrina(even if it’s not in the old 2nd Street location.

My buddy over at the DA’s office took me over to try some BBQ at AnJac’s today and I must admit that it was an excellent lunch dining experience. Located a street north of the Gulfport Post Office on Courthouse Road at the very end of a multi-use industrial complex, this is a one of Gulfport’s hidden gems when it comes to BBQ. They offer cater and very fast take-out, but their dining area is cool, welcoming and spacious. They just began a $ 6.99 blue plate special deal this week which they change daily and promises to be a delight. The staff is very friendly, genuine and brought our food out in a jiffy. Whether your looking for lunch on the go or a place just to go watch the game Anjacs has a variety on the menu that will satisfy any meateater’s appetite. While many feel that BBQ is hard to mess up, You won’t find tender, juicy BBQ at an affordable price anywhere else in Gulfport. You will fall in love with the BBQ sauce, but don’t fret you can take it home by the mason jar and be the BBQ king on your block. If your on the Coast and looking for a great lunch spot, Anjac’s is your spot!!!
