Excellent Mexican food. I’ve pretty much have had everything on the menu and it is all good. Fresh ingredients and the flavors are spot on. Also per the delivery guy this place is a market as well. I’ve never tried to order groceries from here. Hmmmm…

3.5 stars… In the back of this homely latin bodega is a few simple tables and a window. Unless you were looking for it you may not even notice that this is a restaurant. No one was back here so I went back up to the front where I got one of the girls to bring me a menu and take my order. I went with the pork tacos($ 6 for 3). The menu mentioned it came with guac but it didn’t. In very traditional Mexican fashion each taco had two corn tortillas, the meat, chopped raw onions, and cilanto. You also get a couple radishes on the side as well as a few sauces. I really liked the brown mild sauce which added exactly what the taco needed. The meat was decent without too many fatty pieces and the portion was good, definitely a place you can fill up for under $ 7. Personally I’m a bigger fan of less traditional Mexican tacos and would rather Chipotle but there’s something about finding a quality hole-in-the-wall spot that always appeals to me.

Had the burritos and thought they were very well flavored. Portions are decent. Price is ok. The grilled steak was a bit cold and not evenly browned. Also feel like the size of the steak should be slightly bigger since its so thin. The side salad was excellent. The people are friendly and exude a very good vibe. I enjoy supporting the locals so I would be back again probably for breakfast next time.

Remember the ma and pa grocery stores from the 50ties, with the couple sitting at a kitchen table in the back? Well, there u have it. TV on to Mannix reruns, sitting next to Brillo pads on the self, but my Unilocalers haven’t yet steered me wrong I was timid and tried what turned out to be fantastic pork tacos in soft corn tortillas. Delicioso! Also $ 6.00. Can’t beat that for a surprise rainy day lunch.

Really enjoyed the food. Very authentic but remember its soooooo authentic you are in a convenience store. It throws you off a bit but the food is cheap and sure yummy. I want refrain from commenting on the service because the owner was really nice but also served as the cashier.

I found this place on Unilocal and decided to try it out given the awesome reviews. Because I don’t live in West New York/North Bergen/Guttenberg area, I have to drive to the«restaurant» to pick it up. I’m not sure whether it’s really a «restaurant» considering it’s a lady preparing food behind the counter inside a small grocery store. The day I went, there happens to be a parade going on on Bergenline, and it ended up taking me almost an hour to get through given all the road closures and traffic, instead of the normal 10 — 15 min on a Sunday. I was frustrated, mad and super hungry by the time I got there. I swore that’s a bad sign and I’d never go back there again. Then I got home, took my first bite of the freshly made pork enchilada with spicy green sauce and I was in heaven. Their refried beans, rice and salad that came with were flavorful as well. Refried beans were smooth, rice was soft but not too soft and the salad was crunchy and refreshing. The entire plate of happiness cost well less than $ 10. Yummm… I’ve also had their chicken enchilada, lengua(beef tongue) enchilada, pork tamales, chicken tamales, guacamole. Everything I’ve had were wonderfully flavored, made from scratch using fresh ingredients and leave me super satisfied and wallet full. If you are looking for a high end Mexican eatery, this is not it. But if you want to pick up something cheap, flavorful, taste like your adopted Mexican mama made it, this is the spot. And it will hit the spot when you are hungry while barely making a dent on your cash reserve. So don’t hesitate, give it a shot, and this just might be your go-to Mexican place when you want to eat in your PJ’s while watching your favorite TV show with your behind comfortably plopped on your couch!

This place is !! They never seem to disappoint! The always fresh and eating here is literally like eating in your moms kitchen even if the style is a little different from what were use to in los Angeles California. This food satisfies those cravings just the same. We have had more authentic MEXICAN in the city style wise but none seem to satisfy us more then this restaurant. The service is GREAT very friendly and very nice. So on this note you all need to come try it out. trust you won’t be disappointed.

Food 3.5 Service n/a Ambiance n/a Surprised at the high rating. They have a few tables at the back of a grocery store/bodega…a gd sign given the better(but not great) places in manhattan are set up that way. A nice family runs the place. I really wanted to like this place b/c i wanted to find some amazing mexican food… like good ol’ cali… but no luck. The food is passable, but i wouldnt make the drive there just for it. $ 6 for a torta and $ 8 for 3 enchiladas. You have to really want mexican to make the effort, and even then i think it falls short.

My hubby & I were looking to get some authentic Mexican food. We know of one in Bergenfield but didn’t want to drive all the way over there. I went on Unilocal to look for a place around my neighborhood. Although there were only 3, they were really good reviews. Troy was right. This place is a hidden jem. The food was really good!!! And at a really good price! The son of the owner of the establishment, who seated us, was really nice & humble. So was the lady who cooked our food for us. Really nice friendly people. They only had a couple of tables but we loved it that way. It was very clean and made you feel at home. Even the music they played made you happy. We’re so happy we found this place and it’s just a few blocks away from home.

I was craving mexican so bad… there was only one Unilocal review on this place, but I trusted my fellow Unilocaler, thank you Melissa! I am so glad I tried this place. We ordered the chicken burrito and chicken enchilada. The portions were sized well, the prices are cheap and the food is good! Well, my enchilada was way better than the burrito :) I recommend this place for anyone who wants good mexican food and make sure you order the enchiladas.

It was a dark and stormy night… No, really — it was hella crappy out! I didn’t feel like cooking, and while we love our go-to pizza and Chinese places, we wanted to try something new. I did my usual online sleuthing, but nothing piqued our interest. I had all but given up, and went to the drawer in the kitchen to get our cache of menus, and there it was! The handy menu for Quetzal that had been dropped by an enterprising menu ninja at some point over the past month or so. It was decided: Time for adventure! Or something. I called in the order(in Spanish, so I can’t speak to whether the fine folks on the phone are English-fluent or not): The Mister was to have the chorizo burrito, and I opted for the enchiladas de la casa. I also ordered 2 tamales for good measure. Delivery was quick and friendly, though my meal wasn’t quite as hot as I would have liked. The mister’s portion was MASSIVE. Two big, stuffed toerillas of goodness, plus rice and refried beans. Mine was of a good size. One thing of note was that they do their enchiladas at a different, green home-made sauce(not the usual red enchilada sauce). They were tasty, stuffed with 3 meats(chorizo, pork and chicken) and had a nice kick to them. The tamales are GINORMOUS. They’re wrapped in banana leaves, which unfortunately isn’t this Cuban girl’s favorite flavor. I also could do without the bones in the chicken therein.(I won’t hold that against Quetzal though — I blame my own lack of familiarity with that style of tamale!) And $ 20 bucks for all that food? That’ll work. All in all, it was a positive experience, and we’ll be adding Quetzal(minus the tamales!) to our regular delivery roster.
